SESSION September 20, 2000
  • Intellect - from Spruit view
  • Monk Firm - from Thokoza
  • Drake - from Rozettenville
  • Mythical Thorts - from Boksburg
This week’s Rap Activity was in the heat of the moment with the share of punch lines. Intellect was the first cat to strut his stuff on the microphone with a loaded intellect and a brush of battle lines. This cat was sound. The next acts came in the form of Monk Firm who laced deep the conscious lines and wore their skills well like an old shoe. Drake was tight in every respect, he was charged with simple lines, stinging and yet exciting. His delivery of lyrics was tight.

Mythical Thorts were the last act to exploit the microphone and to proceed to the next round for the mc of the month. These cats were well rounded with punching lines, coupled by insight and the opportunity of combining both elements with ease. They become this week’s winners and true to the old adage that, "the last shall be first".

This Week's Winner – Devious

Mythical Thorts
"blaze mc’s, we defeat them whether in a performance or rehearse"
A QUICK 121 With the Winners
  • Ur Feelings About Tonight
The show was tight. We were excellent, bombastic and mad blazing. It is even hard for us to describe how we feel.
  • In One Of Ur Verses U Encourage Mc’s To Buy South African Hip-Hop
Yeah man, there’s a lot of hip-hop in S.A. and we personally think that local mc’s are more authentic than their U.S. counterparts. If we buy and take time to listen to them we will understand them and take this South African hip-hop forward.
  • What Role Should The Record Industry Play To Push South African Hip-Hop
They must treat us with respect and give hip-hop a chance. That’s all we ask for.
  • To The People That Voted For U
    A. We love them, they must watch out for the Mythical Thorts album called Autonomises with production by Captain Morgan, Aubrey and Dumisane from Sky Studio.

The Runners-Up

"I’m approximately, the same size that I would have been, if I never poped my spleen"

"the intellect is coming"

Monk Firm
"we keep battle cuts on a look out"
