Thanksgiving or the Politics of Genocide
Layla Anwar, An Arab Woman Blues
November 28, 2009 – Thanksgiving and the Muslim Eid Al-Adha have coincided around the same dates. In Eid Al Adha we give thanks to Allah, through a ritual of animal sacrifice, the Americans give thanks to their maker, through a ritual of human sacrifice from the first day the white man landed on native American land, until the present when that same white man, (who unfortunately now includes blacks and native Americans too) landed in Iraq, continuing that exact same 200 years old methodology of arrogance, theft, rape, torture, killing crowned with lies and deception – in short genocide. It has not changed since…not one bit…

Obama Never Considered Diplomacy In Afghanistan
By Sherwood Ross
November 28, 2009 – After initially injecting 21,000 troops into Afghanistan allegedly to stave off imminent defeat, President Obama Tuesday will tell war-weary Americans why he seeks 35,000 more. If he gets them, the U.S. force there will exceed 100,000…Obama apparently never seriously considered ending the war diplomatically. Recall his blustering campaign rhetoric about defeating the Taliban; recall the public commitment last December of Defense Secretary Robert Gates to strengthen military bases in Afghanistan. Gates was the Bush official Obama continued in office. Even as polls show a majority of Americans want U.S. forces out of Afghanistan and that Americans do not believe the war is worth fighting, President Obama—-a former editor at the CIA front Business International Corporation in 1983-84—-embraces a position in line with the long-held CIA view the U.S. must control the Middle East’s energy resources…

The Iraq War ‘Inquiry’: ‘Revelations’? What revelations?
by William Bowles
November 28, 2009 – I read with amazement the ‘revelations’ concerning war criminal Tony Blair’s visit to Camp Crawford in March 2002 where Bush/Blair decided that ‘regime change’ was the order of the day. But there’s nothing new about these ‘revelations’, indeed I and many others reported this meeting literally years ago […] These are just a few of the stories on Bush/Blair’s ‘regime change’ meeting at Camp Crawford in early 2002. So how come the mainstream media are reporting it as ‘news’? In fact all the ‘revelations’ emerging from the Iraq War ‘Inquiry’ are not news, independent media has been carrying investigations since at least 2002…

US imperialism, 9/11 and the Iraq war
Patrick Martin
November 28, 2009 -While the American corporate media has given little attention to it, an official British inquiry into the war with Iraq has brought to light damning testimony about the Bush administration’s deliberate launching of an invasion to overthrow the regime of Saddam Hussein and subjugate Iraq to American domination. Former British diplomats and security officials from the 2001-2003 period began testifying this week under oath before a panel headed by Sir John Chilcot, charged with examining the entire course of the war, from its origins to the final British pullout in June 2009…

Imperial Inertia
By Jim Miles
November 28, 2009 – …When I first started my research/reviews, it quickly became apparent that Palestine was not only a metaphorical centre for the problems of many of the peoples of the world, but it is also the reality of much of the political-military manoeuvring that continues not only in the Middle East, but throughout the world, as the demands for resource control and market control begins shifting from west to east. Yet it is easy to lose site of the situation in Palestine. The western media is staunchly on the side of the Israeli powers, and what little reaches publication provides the Benny Morris version of events in which Israel is the victim of Palestinian intransigence and fundamentalist terror rather than Palestine as the victim of an internationally illegal occupation, an internationally illegal wall, and various internationally illegal acts of war and suppression and a Jewish fundamentalism that allows no citizens other than its one ethnic cadre with Eretz Israel…

2 Afghan Teenagers allege abuse at U.S. site
By Joshua Partlow and Julie Tate
November 28, 2009 — Two Afghan teenagers held in U.S. detention north of Kabul this year said they were beaten by American guards, photographed naked, deprived of sleep and held in solitary confinement in concrete cells for at least two weeks while undergoing daily interrogation about their alleged links to the Taliban. The accounts could not be independently substantiated. But in successive, on-the-record interviews, the teenagers presented a detailed, consistent portrait suggesting that the abusive treatment of suspected insurgents has in some cases continued under the Obama administration, despite steps that President Obama has said would put an end to the harsh interrogation practices authorized by the Bush administration after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks…

Lack of cooking gas threatens Gaza daily life, especially during Eid al-Adha feast
by Saud Abu Ramadan, Emad Drimly
November 28, 2009 – The crisis due to the lack of cooking gas in Gaza Strip is threatening Gazan’s daily life, especially during the Muslim feast of Eid al-Adha holiday. Palestinian officials said that the need for cooking gas during winter in Gaza Strip is increasing, including in households, bakeries, hospitals, restaurants and farms. The crisis of cooking gas has been intensified after Israel refused to allow last week more amounts of cooking gas into the strip. Figures released by the association of gas station owners said that five out of ten houses in Gaza suffer from a lack of cooking gas, where several bakeries closed down on the weekend. The bakery owners said they had consumed what were saved of the cooking gas and they were not able to operate on…

Palestinian prisoners in Zionist jails
Mohammad, KABOBfest
November 28, 2009 – With media reports increasing recently about the conclusion of the on-again, off-again prisoner exchange between Hamas and the Zionist entity, Addameer’s monthly statistics on Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails are a good reminder of the disparity between colonizer and colonized, occupier and occupied, oppressor and oppressed. It is pathetic that the Israeli army tank gunner who was pulled out of his tank by Palestinian freedom fighters with the aim of exchanging his freedom for that of hundreds of illegally detained Palestinians has become one of the most famous prisoners in the world. The Israeli corporal was involved in the indiscriminate shelling of the Gaza Strip that had left dozens of innocent Palestinians dead in the preceding weeks, yet since his capture on June 25th, 2006, he has been portrayed sympathetically in the Western press…

Geopolitical Crossroads: Pentagon and NATO Complete Their Conquest of The Balkans
by Rick Rozoff, Stop NATO
November 28, 2009 – Bosnia and Montenegro being incorporated as full NATO members and Macedonia following suit would expand the world’s only military bloc to 31 nations, almost twice that of ten years ago when it first began its drive into Eastern Europe. And with Serbia and Kosovo, which even before becoming a member is the world’s first NATO political entity, included the Alliance’s numbers will have more than doubled since 1999, a decade after the dismantling of the Berlin Wall and the end of the Cold War. All seventeen new acquisitions would be in Eastern Europe, and the majority of NATO member states would be former Warsaw Pact members or Yugoslav republics and a province…

Afghans Detail a Secret Prison Still Operating on a U.S. Base
By ALISSA J. RUBIN, NYTimes
November 28, 2009 – An American military detention camp in Afghanistan is still holding inmates for sometimes weeks at a time and without access to the International Committee of the Red Cross, according to human rights researchers and former detainees held at the site on the Bagram Air Base. The site consists of individual windowless concrete cells, each lighted by a single light bulb glowing 24 hours a day, where detainees said that their only contact with another human being was at twice-daily interrogation sessions…

Best holiday present
Khaled Amayreh
November 28, 2009 – As of Wednesday, 25 November, German and Egyptian mediators were trying hectically to finalise a prisoner swap deal between Israel and the Palestinian Islamic resistance movement, Hamas. The deal would see the release of Gilad Shalit, an Israeli soldier captured by Palestinian fighters in the Gaza Strip more than three years ago, in exchange for the release from Israeli detention camps of hundreds of Palestinian political prisoners. Indirect negotiations aimed at reaching an accord that failed repeatedly due to Israeli intransigence and Hamas’s insistence that Israel free all prisoners included in the original list Hamas presented to Israel more than two years ago…

IOF troops use force to disperse Bilin peaceful march
Palestinian Information Center
November 28, 2009 – The Bilin villagers brought their offspring with their toys and balloons to celebrate the Eidul Adha (feast of sacrifice) near their confiscated land that were taken away from them by the racist wall. The villagers hoisted posters supporting Palestinian constants and rights such as Jerusalem, right of return, release of detainees, removal of the wall and all settlements, and restoring control over their own water resources. A delegation from Greece took part in the march along with solidarity activists from Britain and the USA among others and raised placards supporting the Palestinian people’s rights including resisting occupation and living in freedom on their own lands…

Exactly what not to do
NATO wants to learn from Israel, but all it will learn is how to kill and perpetuate war
Gilad Atzmon*
November 28, 2009 – … However, it would be crucial to elaborate on the emerging mutual interests between the two parties, Israel and NATO. “During their meeting on Wednesday, Ashkenazi and Di Paola discussed ways to upgrade Israeli-NATO military ties as well as the plan to include an Israeli navy vessel in Active Endeavour, a NATO mission established after the 9/11 attacks under which NATO vessels patrol the Mediterranean to prevent illegal terror trafficking.” This is indeed a necessary move for the Israelis. At the moment, the Israeli navy is operating in the Mediterranean as a bunch of Yiddish pirates (Yidisshe piraten), assaulting, hijacking and robbing vessels in international waters. Once operating under the NATO flag, the Israelis would be able to terrorise every vessel in the high seas in the name of the “West”. For the Jewish state this would be a major step forward. Until now the Israelis have been committing atrocities in the name of the Jewish people. Once operating under the NATO flag, the Israelis will be able to perform their piracy in the name of “Europe”. Such a move is further evidence of the spiritual and ideological transition within Zionism from “promised land” to “promised planet”…

Settler harassment and land theft continues in Yanoun
International Solidarity Movement (ISM)
November 28, 2009 – Israeli settlers have annexed a further 40 dunums of what remains of the endangered Palestinian village of Yanoun, east of Nablus. Settlers from the illegal settlement Itamar were witnessed ploughing the land in question yesterday, effectively laying claim to it and furthering their annexation of Yanoun’s land, already entirely encircled by outposts of Itamar. Two settlers were sighted driving their plough on to land that had previously remained accessible to Yanoun farmers yesterday morning…
