Iraq Inquiry Cover-Up
Craig Murray
November 26, 2009 – …This struck me strongly: 11.09am: Lyne asks if the window the weapons inspectors were given to operate in was “so small it was not a window at at all”. Meyer says he discussed this in a memo to London. He says he has not been able to find it. It’s about the fourth time he has said that the inquiry has not been able to produce a document that he knows existed. So much for Chilcot being able to see everything! It is of course possible that documents are being kept from Chilcot. It is however much more likely that Chilcot and his “independent” team of known Iraq War supporters are colluding in suppressing the documents…

Everyone Knew that Iraq Didn’t Have WMDs
George Washington’s Blog
November 26, 2009 – Everyone knew the WMD claims were fake. For example, Tony Blair – the British Prime Minister – knew that Saddam possessed no WMDs. If America’s closest ally Britain knew, then the White House knew as well. And the number 2 Democrat in the Senate -who was on the Senate intelligence committee – admitted that the Senate intelligence committee knew before the war started that Bush’s public statements about Iraqi WMDs were false. If the committee knew, then the White House knew as well. But we don’t even have to use logic to be able to conclude that the White House knew. Specifically, the former highest-ranking CIA officer in Europe says that Bush, Cheney and Rice were personally informed that Iraq had no WMDs in Fall 2002…

USPCN stands with African American activists against Israeli racism
US Palestinian Community Network – USPCN
November 26, 2009 – Israel’s appalling denial of entry to Palestine for African American activists Dhoruba Bin Wahad and Naji Mujahid comes as no surprise. The state of Israel, inherently racist and exclusionary, has always found common cause with other racist regimes around the world. It was a major military supporter of the South African apartheid regime when that regime faced boycotts around the world – boycotts that inspire today’s movement for boycott, divestment and sanctions against Israel…

Get Ready for Another Whitewash
Gilad Atzmon
November 26, 2009 – The Jerusalem Post reported today that Sir Oliver Miles, a former British ambassador to Libya criticized the appointment of two leading Jewish academics to the UK’s Iraq Inquiry panel, stating it may upset the balance of the inquiry. Miles said the two academics were Jewish and that Gilbert was an active Zionist. He also said they were both strong supporters of former prime minister Tony Blair and the Iraq war…

International Palestine Solidarity Day marked with an urgent call for the international community to stop aiding and abetting Israeli oppression of the Palestinian people
By Dr Hanan Chehata, Press Officer, Middle East Monitor, London
November 26, 2009 – To mark this year’s UN’s International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian people, the Palestine Solidarity Campaign (PSC) on Tuesday 24th hosted a meeting in the House of Commons on the subject of the implementation of the Goldstone Report, bringing Israeli War Criminals to justice and ending the siege on Gaza. One common theme which underpinned the presentation of the speakers was that there was an urgent need to find some way of mobilising and maximising global support for the Palestinian cause. Among the ideas discussed were legal, political and grassroots level strategies including the vital step of politically promoting international support for the Goldstone Report, preparing the path for the implementation of Universal Jurisdiction against Israeli War Criminals, being realistic and upfront about the vocabulary used in the debate on Palestine, mobilising support of members of the public and many others…

Wherein We Gaze into Our Inerrant Crystal Ball and Espy a Deadly Rat
Arthur Silber
November 26, 2009 – …The Democrats (and liberals and progressives) can’t even stake a claim to minimal consistency. Some liberal groups threw their support behind the long fight in Afghanistan and Pakistan near the beginning of Obama’s term. As for the others: if Bush had done what Obama will do, they would scream their protest many times a day. “Why, oh why are we in Afghanistan?,” they would moan, loudly and repeatedly. “There’s no reason for us to be there! Get out!” Some progressives will say that, but their criticisms lack, shall we say, edge. After all, all this is actually Bush’s problem. Bush is the one who started this business. Obama is trying to finish it, but remember, Obama is an adult. He understands that this is complicated. We need to be careful. And don’t forget that Pakistan has nukes! Never mind that Israel does too, as does India, as do we (and we’re the only ones who have used them, and lied about why we did). Need I remind you that Obama is the commander in chief? It’s not complicated in the least. In fact, the United States could leave, within three or six months. Announce the phased withdrawal of all U.S. personnel — and then do it. We could do the same in Iraq. We won’t do it in either case. As I’ve said before about Iraq, and this is also true of Afghanistan: We. Are. Not. Leaving. As for why we aren’t leaving, I’ll explain that (again) in a moment…

Help save the Palestinian village of Lifta from total destruction
1948: LEST WE FORGET.
November 26, 2009 – Lifta, a most picturesque Palestinian village, lies on the slopes of West Jerusalem below the highway linking it to Tel-Aviv. It has been abandoned since the invading Hagana underground forces backed by the Stern Gang drove the last of its Palestinian inhabitants in 1948 during the ethnic cleansing of Palestine. It was the one single event which changed the nature of the place and the whole region. Although dozens of houses were destroyed, many of them still remain poised on the landscape…

Iran nuclear inquiry at ‘dead end’
Aljazeera.net
November 26, 2009 – An investigation into whether Iran was seeking to build nuclear weapons has reached “a dead end”, the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has told members of the UN body. Mohamed ElBaradei, the director-general of the IAEA, made the remarks at a meeting of the group’s governors in Vienna, where a resolution demanding Tehran mothball a new uranium enrichment site is expected to be passed…

Gypsies are outcasts in Iraq
The News International
Squeezed between a rubbish dump and a dry riverbed, Al-Zuhoor has no clean water or electricity and the gypsies who live here are at the margins of the new, ultra-conservative Iraq. In smelly alleys bordered by brick hovels, without glass windows or doors, men wander without work, a young girl plays on a squeaky swing and women return from a day’s begging in Diwaniyah, 180 kilometres south of Baghdad. In the distance, smoke from burning rubbish blackens the sky and, when the wind turns, the nauseous odour is overwhelming. Before 2003, under the Baathist regime of Saddam Hussein, the situation was much better. The men were professional singers or musicians and the women were invited to dance at feasts, weddings and parties in Iraq, having migrated to the Middle East from India centuries ago. With the rise of radical Islamists in 2004 however, they were marginalised, attacked and robbed by the Mahdi army, a militia loyal to Moqtada al-Sadr, who regarded the gypsies as morally repugnant…

Law and Order: The Systematic Use of Administrative Detainment by Israel
The Applied Research Institute – Jerusalem
November 26, 2009 – The recent media attention concerning ongoing negotiations between Israel and Hamas for the release of the captured soldier Gilad Shalit and the exchange of Palestinian prisoners obscures the historical and contemporary reality of routine imprisonment without trial, illegal detainment, human rights abuses and the discriminatory application of law by Israel in the Occupied Palestinian territory. It is estimated that since 1967 nearly 700,000 Palestinians have been arrested by Israel. This figure represents almost 40% of the male population in the West Bank. There are currently around 11,000 Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails and data indicates that over 850 are not aware of the charges against them whilst 4,820 prisoners have been held without trial. Over 90% of prisoners are from the West Bank and over 30% are married. These statistics make Palestinians the most imprisoned people on earth…
