Exclusive. Pakistan On The Edge of The Precipice
By Shahid R. Siddiqi. Axis of Logic
September 29, 2009 – In recent years, American strategists have propagated the need to redraw political boundaries of Islamic states along ethnic lines. Driven by paranoia with resurgent Islam and their obsession to control this very important oil rich region, they seek to legitimize their actions by labeling them as effort to dispense justice for ‘oppressed Muslim minorities’. The underlying belief is that smaller entities would be easier to micromanage through puppet regimes, enabling them to contain militancy and squeeze into extinction Jehadi outfits by choking their funding. This ‘remapping’ involves splintering the Muslim world and creating sovereign states of Balochistan, Kurdistan and Arab Shia State by carving out and unifying Pakistani and Iranian Baluchistan territories to create Free Balochistan; unifying Iranian, Iraqi and Turkish Kurdistan to create Greater Kurdistan and slicing off Eastern Saudi Arabia to unite it with Southern Iraq to create Shia Arab State. It is no coincidence that these territories hold the bulk of the world oil and host anti-imperialist movements.

The Decapitation of Pakistan by its own Military!
By Zahir Ebrahim
September 29, 2009 – …. The simple fact that Pakistan is supplying all the drinking water (bottled by Nestle), and full logistics channel for war-making supplies to NATO in Afghanistan is telling in and of itself. Pakistan is equally responsible for destroying the Afghan society, the Afghan people, and there is no less spilled-blood of innocent Afghani Muslims upon Pakistan’s hands over the past 30 years, than upon the United States’. Pakistani military helped destroy Afghanistan, and they are now helping to destroy Pakistan. No Pakistani civilian I know, including myself, ever authorized the Pakistani military to destroy Afghanistan, or aid the United States in its own hegemonic plans on the Grand Chessboard. Do you know anyone? So from where did they get their mandate? I would rather have clean drinking water in my tap, damn it! What good are the bloody nukes when they become the raison d’être for our very destruction in this manner without ever firing a single missile at the drones that are killing our own peoples?…

US, NATO reach “consensus” to sanction rigged election in Afghanistan
By Jerry White
September 29, 2009 – The US and NATO countries involved in the occupation of Afghanistan have signaled their willingness to recognize the re-election of Afghan President Hamid Karzai despite evidence of massive ballot-stuffing and fraud in the August 20 elections. US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and NATO foreign ministers met with their Afghan counterpart Rangin Dadfar Spanta at a so-called “Friends of Afghanistan” meeting in New York last Friday. According to the Washington Post, the US and NATO foreign ministers “told President Hamid Karzai’s government that they expect him to remain in office for another five-year term.”…

Ba’athist rejects Iraq’s bomb claims
By Stephen Starr
September 28, 2009 – From a dated cafe in downtown Damascus, Iraqi Ba’ath party member Nizar Samarai is defiant. “What happened on March 20, 2003, was a major assault on the Ba’ath party, 2003 was a hard year for us, but now, we have started to recover.” Samarai was general director of the Presidential Office and an advisor to president Saddam Hussein until Baghdad fell to coalition troops that March. He then went into hiding. The bombings of government buildings in Baghdad on August 19, in which at least 95 people were killed and hundreds wounded, sparked a major row between Syria and Iraq….

How Does the World Protect Itself from Israel and the Scourge of Zionism?
ROGER TUCKER
September 28, 2009 – There are many people, “progressive” Zionists included, who loudly object to the Occupation in the Palestinian territories, but see no problem with the continued existence of an Israel that privileges Jews over all others who happen to live there, particularly the Muslim, Christian and other non-Jewish “citizens.” These people are referred to by Zionists as the “Arab-Israelis,” but they are, of course, Palestinians. This population also includes a small number of Jews, people whose residence in Palestine pre-dated the Zionist immigration that started in the late 19th century. Those among them – and they may constitute the majority – who never bought into the Zionist ideology and are opposed to the State of Israel are treated pretty much the same as the other Palestinians, as less than human, untermenschen…

Don’t Israel’s nuclear weapons count?
Netanyahu has what he wants to keep up the idea of his plucky, vulnerable little state
Yasmin Alibhai-Brown
September 29, 2009 – …It has predictably rejected the long, sober, unbiased UN report on the last assault on Gaza chaired by Richard Goldstone. He accused Hamas of crimes against Jewish civilians and charged Israel with grave crimes, the breaking of the Geneva convention, punishing and terrorising unarmed civilians. I have some images of these victims sent to me by a Jewish pro-Palestinian activist. Children turned to ash, blistered mothers weeping, and on and on. There still is no respite for the hungry and dying in Gaza. If Israel can mete out such treatment and not be called to account, just think what the state feels entitled to do to Iran. The Israeli human rights activist Gideon Spiro bravely asks that his country be subject to the same rules as Iran and all others in the Middle East: “Rein in Israel, compel it to accept a regime of nuclear disarmament and oblige it to open all nuclear, biological and chemical facilities and missile sites to international inspection.” …

Israeli vigilantes target young Arab-Jewish couples
Sheera Frenkel in Pisgat Ze’ev
September 28, 2009 – It’s past 10pm, but work has just begun for the group of vigilantes in a small white hatchback patrolling the streets of Pisgat Ze’ev — a Jewish settlement on the outskirts of east Jerusalem. As the car crawls through the nearly empty streets, the men peer out at couples. They say they are experts at spotting those that don’t “match”. “Stop, right there. Stop the car. Is he an Arab? That dark guy . . . If they are both Jewish, keep the car moving!” yells out ‘David’, a 31-year-old Jewish settler who does not use his real name…

September 28, 2009 – Nine months after he helped to organise protests against Israel’s attack on Gaza, Samih Jabareen is a prisoner in his home in Jaffa, near Tel Aviv, an electronic bracelet around his ankle to alert the police should he step outside his front door. The 40-year-old actor and theatre director is one of dozens of Arab political activists in Israel who have faced long-term detention during and since Israel’s winter assault on Gaza in what human rights groups are calling political intimidation and repression of free speech by the Israeli police and courts…

Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine -PFLP
September 29, 2009 – On the ninth anniversary of the Al-Aqsa Intifada, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine called for honoring the sacrifices of our people by ending the so-called “negotiations” with the occupying enemy and restoring the national unity of our people. In a statement issued on September 28, 2009, the PFLP urged a return to the path of intifada and resistance to restore our national rights. The Al-Aqsa Intifada for Independence and Return, said the Front in its statement, erupted following the desecration of Al-Aqsa mosque by the invasion of former occupation prime minster and notorious war criminal and terrorist Ariel Sharon into Al-Aqsa surrounded by thousands of heavily armed soldiers…

Patrick Henry’s call
Miko Peled
September 28, 2009 – …In this chauvinistic state created by my forefathers the terror attack on Gaza is called a war. It is much easier that way for consciences to bear. After all, fighting an enemy that possesses tanks and war planes, artillery and sophisticated weapons, smart bombs and air to air missiles, along with anti-aircraft and anti-tank weapons, is a great deal more heroic than massacring innocent children, women and men who are defenseless, have no means of escape and no means of fighting back. But of course the reality is that the Israeli army, that cruel military force that has made a name for itself during the last 60 years as a force to be reckoned with, is in fact no more than a shameless army of cowards lead by a junta of brutal racists. Instead of the patronizing call we constantly hear for a Palestinian Gandhi, one would hope to see the emergence of international support for a Palestinian Patrick Henry. The call “Give me liberty or give me death” awakens strong emotions even today, more than 320 yeas after Patrick Henry gave the speech that crystallized perhaps more than any the American colonies’ call for independence from the English crown. There has never been, nor is it likely, an occupying power that would ever relinquish its domination willingly. Israel is no different. Not only is Israel unlikely to end its iron rule over Palestine and its people, it is concentrating all of its effort on making Greater Israel a permanent and irreversible reality…

Courage and resistance at Aida refugee camp
Dina Elmuti writing from Aida refugee camp, occupied West Bank
September 28, 2009 – Feeling as insignificant as an insect, I waited while the soldier monitoring the fortified checkpoint behind the bulletproof booth inspected our passports. After a few moments of standard scrutiny, our passports were returned and we were sent on our way with a smug wave of the hand. We made our way around the twists and turns of Israel’s massive wall that cuts through Bethlehem, surrounding towns and neighborhoods. The hideous obstruction is adorned with resistance art that serves as a guide to our destination: the Aida refugee camp…

Gaza: Jihad and dates
Eva Bartlett, In Gaza
September 28, 2009 – …The American School was flattened by F-16 bombing during Israel’s massacre of Gaza. I was with medics [one of whom who was martyred on 4 January, shredded by an Israeli-shot flechette/dart bomb while he worked] who went immediately after the attack to retrieve any wounded and martyred. It was late at night and we couldn’t see, not even the corpse of the school itself. F-16s and dronse still loomed overhead, threatening to bomb the site again as they so often did, killing people who had come to help. We left and returned at daybreak, retrieving the corpse of the young night watchman slaughtered in the bombing. The watchman came from the region, lived next to the school in the shanty shacks that surround the area. Very poor people. Jihad tells me that his house was destroyed in the bombing: “rohht,” he says. “It’s gone.” He’s still smiling as he relates the loss. Where is he living now? With family in Beit Lahiya. He has 10 children, which he is now supporting through odd jobs like this date harvest. Jihad speaks of his family abroad, in Jordan, in Europe, and how he’d like to see them, but can’t because of the sealed borders, the siege…

Book casts new light on Palestine’s ethnic cleansing
Maureen Clare Murphy
September 28, 2009 – In recent years, a growing number of accounts of the 1948 war have corrected and exposed the founding myths of Israel, including claims by its leaders that the Palestinian people did not exist or were invented. The latest addition to this genre is independent scholar Rosemarie M. Esber’s meticulously documented history Under the Cover of War: The Zionist Expulsion of the Palestinians. While other recent books on the subject have relied on Israeli and Zionist archival sources, Esber uses British archives and oral testimonies from Palestinian survivors as well as previously used sources to demonstrate that there was a purposeful, systematic pattern by which Zionist forces depopulated Palestinian cities and villages before the end of the British mandate on 15 May 1948 and the subsequent intervention of Arab armies…

PCHR Release “Through Women’s Eyes: A PCHR Report on the Gender-Specific Impact and Consequences of Operation Cast Lead”
PCHR – Palestinian Centre for Human Rights
September 28, 2009 – In conjunction with the presentation of the UN Fact Finding Mission’s report to the Human Rights Council on 29 September, the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR) release “Through Women’s Eyes: A PCHR Report on the Gender-Specific Impact and Consequences of Operation Cast Lead”. The Israeli offensive claimed the lives of 118 women, and injured at least 825 more. However, although the numbers of victims and casualties illustrate the appalling human toll of this conflict, the true extent of the suffering lies in the day-to-day reality of life in the Gaza Strip following Operation Cast Lead, as civilians struggle to rebuild their lives, come to terms with their loss, and restore some semblance of human dignity..

US war on Pakistan
The Nation, Pakistan
September 29, 2009 – THE US design to destabilize Pakistan is becoming clearer by the day, even for the most blinkered Pakistani. As the US continues to be stalemated in Afghanistan, it has sought to move the centre of gravity of the “war on terror” to Pakistan. Initially it was assumed that this shift would be restricted to FATA, but now it is evident that the US is seeking to engulf the whole of Pakistan in an asymmetric conflict, which will eventually pit the people against the state, especially the military. Reports of a US plan to target Balochistan, including its capital city Quetta are, in all likelihood, correct – more so because the US has not issued even a half-hearted denial on this count. Pakistani officials are admitting that the US has sought to extend drone attacks to Balochistan, especially Quetta…

September 29, 2009 – …The interim (or shall we say “de facto”?) US Ambassador, Lewis Amselem, a Bush administration holdover, focused only negligibly on the coup regime’s “state of siege” decree, instead launching into a tirade against the victims of it. “Zelaya’s return to Honduras is irresponsible and foolish and it doesn’t serve to the interest of the people nor those who seek the restoration of democratic order in Honduras,” Amselem crowed. “Everything will be better if all parties refrain from provoking and inciting violence.” According to Amselem, provoking or inciting violence is much worse than actually engaging in violence, as the coup regime had been doing all night and morning long prior to and during Amselem’s tirade…

Torture in Bagram and Guantánamo: The Declaration of Ahmed al-Darbi
Andy Worthington
September 29, 2009 – …After the first two weeks, approximately, for about the next three months at Bagram, the interrogations that began on my second day at Bagram continued and became more abusive. U.S. personnel would play blaring music, shine bright lights in my eyes, kick me, and drag me around the room. Some kneed me in the chest, stomach and genitals and threw me against the wall. I was often thrown to the ground and then pulled around the room by my handcuffs. Other times a sand bag or hood was placed over my head and tightened around my neck, and then they would grab my head and shake it violently while swearing at me and they would also pour water over my head while my head was covered. Also, I was sometimes forced to hold a chair over my head for a long period of time during interrogations. On several occasions, the U.S. agents sprayed water on my face and then blew a powder that I think was pepper onto me…

U.S.: Fears of Blame for Defeat Shadow Afghan War Meetings
Analysis by Gareth Porter*
September 29, 2009 – In a remarkable parallel with a similar turning point in the Vietnam War 44 years ago, President Barack Obama will preside over a series of meetings in the coming weeks that will determine whether the United States will proceed with an escalation of the Afghanistan War or adjust the strategy to reduce the U.S. military commitment there. The meetings will take place in the context of a request from Gen. Stanley A. McChrystal, the top commander in Afghanistan, for 40,000 additional troops, which reached Washington over the weekend. That would bring the total U.S. troop strength in Afghanistan to 108,000 – nearly a 60-percent increase…

September 29, 2009 – Whilst the proliferation of ultra-orthodox “vigilante police” is a stain on Israeli society, their Taliban-esque actions can at least be contextualised as the inevitable consequence of religious fundamentalism gone wild. PCHR: Human Rights Council Must Endorse Findings and Recommendations of Goldstone Enquiry

29 September 2009 – The reality of Operation Cast Lead, Israel’s 23 day offensive on the Gaza Strip (27 December – 18 January) is now well known. The Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR) have investigated and documented numerous violations of international human rights and humanitarian law, many of which constitute war crimes and grave breaches of the Geneva Conventions. Evidence indicates that Israeli forces may also have committed crimes against humanity in the Gaza Strip; the crime against humanity of persecution, manifested, inter alia, by the illegal blockade of the Gaza Strip, continues to this day. These findings have been confirmed by investigations conducted by a diverse range of bodies, such as Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, the UN Board of Inquiry, the Independent Fact Finding Mission of the Arab League, the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, and now the Human Rights Council mandated Goldstone report…

Military Resistance [GiSp] 7I14: Half Being [ September 28, 2009 ]
Thomas F. Barton
The beautiful little Afghan girl stared straight back at me, blankly. How could she be so expressionless? For she must have been in absolute agony. There were at least three penetration wounds to her young body, caused by a mortar shell exploding close to where she’d been playing. The round that had done the damage had been ours – British – fired as we edged forward through part of a village in Helmand. There had been no immediate threat, none I could determine anyway, but someone else had thought otherwise. An old man, her grandfather, approached me. Of course he couldn’t have known I’d just become a grandfather too; couldn’t have known the effect the suffering of a child would have on me. After the girl – Shabia – had been airlifted to hospital, I stayed with her family, desperate to show I had some humanity. [ … ]
