Afghan Resistance Statement
Historical Boycott of the Afghan Nation with the Farce Election
Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan
The decisive and complete boycott of the Afghan people with the August 20 election showed once again that the Afghans could not be trapped through conspiracies and wiles of the invaders and their surrogates. Contrarily, they have been continuing their legitimate struggle to establish an Islamic system and regain national independence. The gallant Mujahideen staged incessant attacks in the east, west, north and south of the country which frustrated the organizers of the election in the White House and turned their hopes into despondency. The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan appreciates the stance of the Afghans to completely boycott the American drama… America and its allies are busy strafing, detaining, torturing and killing the Afghans under the empty slogans of democracy, reconstruction and philanthropy. They want to start the flames of racial prejudices in our country. However, the menace of racial bigotry had been dispelled from our country because of wisdom and sagacity of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan. Thus, the enemy wants to revive the wicked perceptions and notions of disintegration of Afghanistan…

Homeless in New Orleans…prisoners in Gaza
Marcy Newman, body on the line

Obama Administration Seeks “Emergency Control” of the Internet
Tom Burghardt, Antifascist Calling…
You have to hand it to congressional Democrats. Mendacious grifters whose national security agenda is virtually indistinguishable from Bushist Republicans, when it comes to rearranging proverbial deck chairs on the Titanic, the party of “change” is second to none in the “all terrorism all the time” department. While promising to restore the “rule of law,” “protect civil liberties” while “keeping America safe,” in practice, congressional Democrats like well-coiffed Republican clones across the aisle, are crafting legislation that would do Dick Cheney proud!…

Afghanistan’s hidden toll: Troops invalided out triple in three years
Brian Brady and Nina Lakhani
…The tally of dead currently stands at 208, but some senior officers believe this could rise sharply. The numbers of those wounded and maimed have soared by 300 per cent in the past three years as the increasingly bloody struggle to maintain order has intensified. New figures obtained by The Independent on Sunday also show that the numbers claiming compensation for injuries sustained in Iraq and Afghanistan are more than 12 times higher than the total in 2005. Unpublished figures from the Armed Forces Compensation Scheme (AFCS) reveal in disturbing detail the “hidden costs” of the military action, with soaring numbers being forced out by wounds…

It’s official: Nakba is removed from the curriculum in occupied Palestine
Marcy Newman, body on the line
Here is the latest news from the zionist terrorist colonist regime: Education Minister Gideon Sa’ar briefed the cabinet on plans for the start of the school year, and announced that the word “nakba” will be taken out of lesson plans. “It can be said with certainty that Arab Israelis experienced a tragedy in the war, but there will be no use of the word ‘nakba,’ whose meaning is similar to holocaust in this context,” said Sa’ar..

TIFF Celebrating Israeli colonialism, ethnic cleansing and apartheid! City-to-City Spotlight on Tel Aviv at the Toronto International Film Festival
The Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel (PACBI)
The Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel (PACBI) is gravely concerned that the Toronto International Film Festival 2009 (TIFF) has decided to spotlight Tel Aviv for its inaugural City-to-City program. We encourage filmmakers and audiences to boycott the Spotlight as it extends a gesture of “goodwill” to a colonial and apartheid regime which is violating Palestinian human rights with utter impunity. According to program notes by Festival co-director and City-to-City programmer Cameron Bailey, the City-to-City programme “will showcase the complex currents running through today’s Tel Aviv. Celebrating its 100th birthday in 2009, Tel Aviv is a young, dynamic city that, like Toronto, celebrates its diversity.” The ‘diversity’ celebrated by the Spotlight is in fact based on the erasure of the physical presence of the Palestinians, their culture, heritage and memory…

Thugs of Fortune
Jeff Huber
… An August 20 Times article by Mazetti and James Risen says the CIA is still using mercenaries to help them kill terror suspects. A “division” of “the company formerly known as ‘Blackwater’” is loading Hellfire missiles and guided bombs on drone aircraft at “hidden” bases in Pakistan and Afghanistan. The Blackwater mercenaries, now known as “Xe” (pronounced “zee”) mercenaries, also provide security at the bases. They don’t pull the trigger or pickle off bombs though; CIA “employees” do that by remote control from the agency’s Langley, Virginia headquarters. CIA types also pick which terror suspects to target…

Israeli religious schools found to discriminate based on race
Saed Bannoura
The Israeli Education Ministry announced Sunday that it would cut funding to three state-funded religious schools because they refused to enroll Ethiopian Jews simply because they were black. The state had tried to compromise with the schools, saying that they only had to allow a few Ethiopian Jewish students in, as a token measure, but the schools refused. Ethiopian Jews who have immigrated to Israel face multiple forms of discrimination within Israeli society, some of which are inscribed into law…

Karzai Increases Afghan Vote Lead in Fraud-Tainted Election
VOA news
Independent Afghan election monitors say allegations of major fraud have more than doubled in the past two days and that investigators are now looking into more than 550 reported incidents. Investigations into the latest fraud allegations, reported by the Electoral Complaints Commission, could further delay a vote counting process that has been much slower than officials predicted. The latest official results from about one-third of polling stations show incumbent President Hamid Karzai leading with 46 percent. His closest challenger, Abdullah Abdullah, has 31 percent…

Age-old co-existence: Gaza Ramadan day 8
Eva Bartlett, In Gaza
…But anyway, here in Gaza, another thing to be bastardized by the Zionist media is the relationship between Christians and Muslims. In my personal experience, I’ve had a Christmas party thrown for my friends and I by a Muslim family; I’ve been invited into many devout Muslim homes, though I don’t usually don a headscarf, and showered with gracious hospitality; and I’ve received iftaar invitations for every day of the month, many from perfect strangers who want simply to share the beauty of their religion, and their often sparse food, with me. Aside from the sheer slander of the Zionist message of Palestinians being incapable of coexistence, the idea’s tangible ramifications are felt in closed borders and towering walls, cutting off land, separating families and neighbours, and devastating economies, be they in Qalqiliya, Azzoun, Nablus… or the Gaza Strip…

Sheikh Jarrah residents demonstrate against house evictions
International Solidarity Movement (ISM)
Two events were held in East Jerusalem on the evening of Saturday, 29th August, to condemn the recent eviction of two Palestinian families from the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood, as well as the continuing colonization and land confiscation in the city, practices which are illegal under international law. A protest organized by the Coalition for Jerusalem was held at 20:30 in front of Damascus Gate just outside the old city, attended by both Palestinians and Israelis as well as international activists. This was followed by a candlelit march of about 30 attendants of the demo, through the streets of East Jerusalem towards the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood…

We Need a Special Prosecutor for Blackwater and Other CIA “Contractors”
By Jeremy Scahill
Some parts of Blackwater’s clandestine work for the CIA have begun to leak out from behind the iron curtain of secrecy. The company’s role in the secret assassination program and its continued involvement in the CIA drone attacks that occur regularly in Afghanistan and Pakistan have become front page material in the Washington Post and New York Times. There is much more to this story than has been reported publicly and details will continue to emerge, particularly about Blackwater’s aviation division(s). Now we learn (unsurprisingly) that Blackwater offered “foreign” operatives to work on the CIA assassination program…

[Video Free Gaza] We made it to Gaza on 23rd August 2008, 29 August 2009
Free Gaza Team
We will return. We will come back. We will never forget. A year ago, 23rd August 2008, 44 of us saw the coastline of Gaza in the distance, after 30 hours of traveling across the Mediterranean Sea. We were jubilant. We had made it to Gaza. We had actually made it to Gaza. We had really, really made it to Gaza. We had MADE IT TO GAZA. Thank you to all of you who made this possible, who worked on the land crew, who sent out the information to your lists, who covered the story while we were in Gaza. 44 of us made it to Gaza last year, but we were supported by hundreds of you..

Israeli warplanes strike northern Gaza
Ma’an News
Israeli jets bombed a northern Gaza Strip building on Sunday morning. No casualties were immediately reported. The overnight airstrike “was in response to a Qassam rocket fired from Gaza into Israeli territory on Saturday morning,” the country’s military said in a statement to Ma’an. Israel claimed the building had housed the entrance to an underground tunnel. “The tunnel was intended to be used for an infiltration into Israeli territory in order to execute a terrorist attack against Israeli citizens or IDF [Israel Defense Forces] soldiers.”..

Ex-detainee Sabrin Abu Amara, recently released from Hasharon prison, said that the female prisoners in this jail are living in harsh incarceration conditions in the holy month of Ramadan. Abu Amara told the prisoners’ center for studies that the tension between the prisoners and the prison administration in Hasharon escalated after they prevented jailers from conducting a search in their section last week. She added that the prison administration banned prison visits during Ramadan especially for Hamas female prisoners who were not allowed to see their children and families…

GI Special 7H24: The Day The Future Happened [ 29 August 2009 ]
Thomas F. Barton
Honorable Anniversary: August 29, 2008.
It started as a modest sized march. Two squads of 25 IVAW members each formed up outside the venue and began marching to the Pepsi center. From the Rage Against the Machine concert at the Denver Coliseum, about 150 soldiers in uniform began the four-mile march to the Pepsi Center in downtown Denver to protest the Iraq War. The squads were led by members in dress uniforms and combat uniforms, with thousands of supporters marching behind them in support. The group of mostly young people walked behind a banner that said: “Support GI Resistance.”
