Obama CIA chief excuses Bush-era torture
Panetta: ‘Reality’ of 9/11 excuses Bush scandals
Stephen C. Webster
CIA director and Democratic appointee Leon Panetta, in an article published Sunday, said Democrats must recognize that the “reality” of 9/11 is what drove the conduct of the George W. Bush administration in the months following September 11, 2001, which somehow should justify not looking into suspected crimes. He added, in an apparent warning to the House Intelligence Committee, that “focusing on the past” could hurt the CIA’s core mission amid a climate of recriminations over its practices…

What future lies ahead for the people of Gaza?
Peter Eyre
Despite NATO and IDF forces telling us Depleted Uranium (DU) has not been used, we keep finding evidence in all theaters of war to prove otherwise. The Balkans was an excellent example as to how NATO deceived the world in denying its usage. Evidence was eventually produced and they were then forced to admit to its extensive usage. The UNEP were called in twice to evaluate the locations and levels of contamination…

Israelis go to war with a new weapon – Beethoven
Jonathan Cook
The Jewish community of Kfar Vradim, set in the still-verdant hills of northern Israel close to the Lebanese border, has taken the idea of neighbourly feuds to a new – and noisier – level. Last week, it set up a large sound system, pointed it at the neighbouring homes in the Arab town of Tarshiha, the nearest of which are less than 1km away, and blasted them with Beethoven and Mozart. Officials said they were forced to take the drastic step in retaliation for what they call the “deafening” blare of Arab music from late-night street parties the villagers have to endure each summer through the wedding season…

Home Office: ‘Support our wars or you’ll be denied a UK passport’
New rules on citizenship could bar immigrants who use the ancient British right to protest
By Jane Merrick
Immigrants who take part in protests against British troops could be denied citizenship of this country under controversial new Home Office rules. The Home Secretary, Alan Johnson, will launch a consultation tomorrow on a new points-based system for would-be migrants according to their behaviour, as well as skills and qualifications. Mr Johnson, writing in the News of the World, said: “Bad behaviour will be penalised, and only those with enough points will earn the right to a British passport.”…

Confrontation with Eyal from Ben-Gurion Security
Kawther Salam
I received a hateful comment from an Israeli calling himself “Eyal”, which goes far beyond the usual hateful rubbish which these people write. I wonder why “Eyal” from the Systems Security of the Israeli Airport Authority (Ben-Gurion Airport) left a comment on my articles “Names and Photos of the Israeli War criminals”. p06"Eyal” appears to be an employee at Ben-Gurion Airport, using the office equipment to vent his anger at me. Here is what “Eyal”, the Israeli working at Ben-Gurion Airport, left as a comment on my blog. The poor man clearly has some problems writing correct English. Under his comment which I quote below, follows my answer to each point. (I left his comment without correction)…

Mousavi’s latest statement statement about the trial
Mir Hussein Mousavi, via neo-resistance

How Many Civilian Deaths are Acceptable?
Tom Hayden
It was a cryptic Pentagon answer to Senator John Kerry’s straightforward question, in notes from the Senate hearing on May 21: Question. According to The New York Times July 20, 2003, Secretary Rumsfeld personally approved over 50 US airstrikes in Iraq which were expected to kill up to 50 innocent Iraqi civilians each. According to Pentagon policy at the time, any strikes expected to result in 50 or more civilian deaths as unavoidable collateral damage were to be approved personally by the Secretary. The media was informed of this policy in July 2003 when the chief US commander disclosed the sign-off policy. Does that policy continue today in Afghanistan, and, if so, in what form? Do White House or Pentagon officials sign off on bombing runs where civilian casualties are expected to be higher than 50? Which officials?…

THE CLOSED DOOR
Malcom Lagauche
Nineteen years ago, incidents occurred in Iraq and Kuwait that changed the world and thus began the U.S. quest for word domination, an effort that gained momentum and is in full-swing today. According to the United States, “another Hitler” had just unleashed military forces that were in the first stage of taking over the world. Kuwait on August 2, 1990, then the imminent fall of Saudi Arabia would create a domino effect in which a madman in Baghdad would unleash chemical and biological weapons upon the area that would herald the beginning of the end of humankind on Earth…

Butchers: The hidden truth about Israel’s kidney theft ring
Joseph Cannon, Cannonfire
(Note: This is a major story. Although I’ve done no original “in the field” research, I’ve stitched together published material in a way that reveals the true authorship of this crime. You won’t learn about the complicity of the Israeli government anywhere else.) Where do the kidneys come from? I’m talking about the kidneys offered by an “organist” named Izzy Rosenbaum. The FBI scooped him up in a corruption probe that focused on pay-offs to New Jersey pols (nothing surprising about that) and money laundering by prominent rabbis…

Of mosers and monsters
Joseph Cannon, Cannonfire
Writing this story does not make me feel comfortable. Nevertheless, I must offer a follow-up to my previous post about the FBI’s corruption probe in New Jersey, which netted both corrupt politicians and rabbis who used religious charities as fronts for money laundering. The most troubling aspect of that story involves the illegal trade in human organs. Using responsible sources, my post demonstrated that this organ ring involved unwilling donors, major hospitals, and the Israeli government itself. Alas, no-one has followed up on the leads I have provided…

Everything For Palestine
By Salim Nazzal
Since the eruption of the inter-Palestinian conflict in the black June of 2007 Palestinians cannot conceal their anger and frustration over the current situation in Palestine. The enemy is not only the apartheid Zionist state – its brutality is known worldwide. There is an enemy from within which is divisive, and erodes the image of Palestinians worldwide. In the recent past the Palestinian revolution has inspired much of the liberation and social change movements around the world and the reason was evident – national unity. Clear goals and firm leadership led the Palestinian struggle in the darkest times…

UK in Afghanistan for decades, says our man in Washington
Diplomat’s warning comes as MPs say Britain has lost sight of its original security objectives
By Brian Brady and Jane Merrick, Independent
Britain must concentrate all its efforts on the military campaign to conquer the Taliban as its attempts to achieve a wide-ranging “rescue” of Afghanistan have failed miserably, an influential committee of MPs warns today. A report on the Afghan campaign from the Foreign Affairs Committee claims that British politicians have allowed “mission creep” to interfere with the original objectives set eight years ago, but they have still failed to pull off wider goals including stamping out the opium trade. Instead, the MPs insist, the UK should target its resources on “one priority, namely security” and allow the international community to spearhead the broader effort to rebuild Afghanistan…

Guerilla leader urges restoration of Fatah’s revolutionary past
Ma’an News
“I have waited 30 years to come back to Palestine, and I won’t leave. I will wait until I get a Palestinian ID card so I can bring back my wife and children,” said Khalid Abu Isba, one of two Palestinian fighters who survived the famous attack on a beach in north of Tel Aviv on 11 March 1978. In the city for Fatah’s upcoming convention, Abu Isba was speaking during an interview at Ma’an’s Bethlehem office. The operation that made him famous was led by the legendary female fighter Dalal Al-Mughrabi… Asked about his expectations for the Fatah conference, he said, “After the conference is finished, Fatah should continue with change, close the ranks, and restore Fatah’s dignity.” The veteran fighter said he hoped his movement would return to a program of popular resistance. “We hope the conference will bring back the Fatah of the revolution, the Fatah of Abu Ammar [Yasser Arafat] and the Fatah of sacrifices after waiting 20 years since the fifth conference,” he added…

GI Special 7H1: “A Sudden Coolness” [ 1st August 2009 ]
Thomas F. Barton
A senior American military adviser in Baghdad has concluded in an unusually blunt memo that the Iraqi forces suffer from deeply entrenched deficiencies but are now capable of protecting the Iraqi government, and that it is time “for the U.S. to declare victory and go home.” Prepared by Col. Timothy R. Reese, an adviser to the Iraqi military’s Baghdad command, the memorandum asserts that the Iraqi forces have an array of problems, including corruption, poor management and the inability to resist political pressure from Shiite political parties. “As the old saying goes, ‘Guests, like fish, begin to smell after three days,’ “ Colonel Reese wrote. “Since the signing of the 2009 Security Agreement, we are guests in Iraq, and after six years in Iraq, we now smell bad to the Iraqi nose.” Colonel Reese’s memo lists a number of problems that have emerged since the withdrawal.
