To The Sons of Bitches…
Layla Anwar, An Arab Woman Blues
…You think this is a vulgar word ? Oh really ? So you must have elected and are ruled by vulgarity yourselves. Take your zionist Biden, the one who clamors for the partition of Iraq. He was visiting Baghdad last week and was in Saddam Hussein’s “lavish building” – his palace. Yes Saddam Hussein has a “lavish building” – a palace. He did not own it, it was the country’s property. Just as the White House is not owned by the SOBs that rule it, nor was the Hermitage owned by the Tsars who build it…All government buildings remain the property of the country. […] So when a son a bitch like Biden standing in the heart of occupied Baghdad – in the Green Zone, in the occupied palace of President Saddam Hussein, giving out american passports to more sons of bitches who served in this rotten criminal army of yours while uttering the following from his filthy mouth “ We did it in Saddam’s palace, and I can think of nothing better. That S.O.B. is rolling over in his grave right now.” Actually Biden, if there is anyone rolling over in his LIVING grave right now, it is you – S.O.B. You bastards have crossed miles with tons of weapons, after 13 years of sanctions, fought long and hard to control even one neighborhood in Baghdad, but you still found yourself barricaded behind high walls in Saddam’s palace, surrounded with a thousand body guards, unable to set foot one meter outside the occupied palace…

The Convoy of Death: Will Obama Investigate The Afghan Massacre Of November 2001?
Andy Worthington
On Friday, in the New York Times, James Risen resuscitated a story that some commentators — myself included — presumed had dropped off the radar, never to be heard of again. The story concerns the massacre of at least 1,500 prisoners in northern Afghanistan at the end of November 2001, after the fall of the city of Kunduz, the Taliban’s last stronghold, and is known, to those who recall it, as the “Convoy of Death,” because those who died suffocated in vast numbers, or died as a result of gunshot wounds, while being transported in container trucks to a prison at Sheberghan run by General Rashid Dostum, a leader of the US-backed Northern Alliance. In my book The Guantánamo Files, I devoted a chapter to the “Convoy of Death,” which includes the following passages, reproduced here to establish a context for the massacre, based on descriptions from survivors, and from those who covered the story at the time, or who investigated it afterwards..

I’ve Seen 1,200 Torture Photos
By David Swanson
This moment, in which the Attorney General of the United States claims to be considering the possibility of allowing our laws against torture to be enforced seems a good one in which to reveal that I have seen over 1,200 torture photos and a dozen videos that are in the possession of the United States military. These are photographs depicting torture, the victims of torture, and other inhuman and degrading treatment. Several videos show a prisoner intentionally slamming his head face-first very hard into a metal door. Guards filmed this from several angles rather than stopping it…

Israeli PM names new advisor convicted of killing Palestinian teen
WorldBulletin
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has offered an advisory post to a Jewish settler leader involved in a 1988 killing of a Palestinian youth during an anti-Israeli protest, a settler spokeswoman said on Monday. Netanyahu’s spokesmen would neither confirm or deny he had asked Pinchas Wallerstein, 60, director-general of the settlers’ YESHA council, to serve as the prime minister’s adviser on settlement affairs, Reuters said. Aliza Herbst, a YESHA spokeswoman, said Wallerstein “has definitely been offered the job,” and has been filling out forms for a vetting process by Israel’s attorney-general, and that it wasn’t clear how long that may take…

New York Times on Northern Alliance war crime
A cover-up of US massacre at Mazar-i-Sharif
By Barry Grey
…At the end of November, 2001, US Special Forces, CIA operatives and US Army troops, backed by British commandos and working with Dostum’s militia, carried out a horrific three-day bombardment and mass execution of foreign Taliban POWs at Dostum’s Qala-i-Janghi prison fortress near Mazar-i-Sharif. In fact, the Taliban from Kunduz who died in metal containers were originally slated to be shipped to Qala-i-Janghi, but were diverted because of the US-led slaughter that was then underway at the fortress. The exact number of defenseless POWs who were slaughtered at Qala-i-Janghi remains unknown, but most estimates place the toll in the many hundreds..

ADL’s Assault on Freedom of Speech

Resisting by living
Eva Bartlett, In Gaza
Walking the sandy lane through the As Samouni district of Zeitoun it was obvious that little had changed, nothing had improved, half a year after the Israeli attacks on Gaza which killed 48 from the Samouni family in a series of Israeli targeted shooting and shelling of the civilians. A bulldozer had just begun the work of pushing aside the piles of broken homes, sifting, dumping, clearing away memories of life and death. But the latter remain, present in every demolished building, in the paths between homes, in the razed farmland, in the absence of family members. In Mousa Samouni’s house the memories of death are stronger…

Obama’s Tortured Democracy: The Power of Images and the Politics of State Secrecy
by Henry A. Giroux, t r u t h o u t
…Glenn Greenwald further heightened the contradiction by asking, “How is it possible for Obama to pay dramatic tribute to the ‘heartbreaking’ impact of that Neda video in bringing to light the injustices of the Iranian government’s conduct while simultaneously suppressing images that do the same with regard to our own government’s conduct?” Obama publicly acknowledges the suffering of this young girl, but refuses to acknowledge or respond to the suffering and pain of those countless detainees tortured by US military and intelligence forces. In Obama’s contradictory logic, the life of Neda Agha-Soltan is eminently grievable, but not the lives of those who have survived being murdered only to endure horrible abuses at the hands of US government employees, some of whom have most certainly committed war crimes…

Is Israel guilty of piracy?
Radhika Sainath
When the Israeli navy seized a small humanitarian boat flying under the Greek flag on Tuesday, 30 June, did the commandos commit acts of piracy when they forced the crew and 21 passengers — including a former US Congresswoman and Nobel Laureate — to port in Israel? May Israeli officials be prosecuted, and if so where? On the morning of 29 June, the Spirit of Humanity set sail from Cyprus to the Gaza Strip carrying approximately three tons of medical aid, olive saplings, children’s toys and other humanitarian items for the area’s 1.5 million residents. The Spirit traveled through international waters when, at approximately 1:30am, several Israeli gunships surrounded the boat, jammed its GPS, navigation and radar systems and threatened to open fire. Heavily-armed Israeli naval commandos boarded the boat, ordered the Spirit’s passengers to lie face down, roughed up several, and ultimately forced the humanitarian volunteers to Israel where they were held for days in hot, crowded, cells before all but two (both Israeli citizens) were ultimately deported…

New reports of massive spying, criminality by US government
By Patrick Martin
Reports in the American press on Friday and Saturday reveal massive illegality in the US government and intelligence apparatus. They demonstrate not only routine violations of democratic rights through illegal spying and wiretapping both at home and abroad, but also disregard for legally required reports to Congress. According to a report Sunday in the New York Times, the CIA kept the House and Senate intelligence committees in the dark for eight years about a “secret counterterrorism program,” on the instructions of then Vice President Richard Cheney. The Times account said that the current CIA Director Leon Panetta, a former Democratic congressman, recently told both the House and Senate intelligence committees about the existence of the program and Cheney’s role in concealing it…

Bashary was unable to give an overall toll for the year…

Bill Robinson vs. the ADL Thought Police
By Jeff Gates
When sociology Professor Bill Robinson stared down the Anti-Defamation League, it looked like a victory for academic freedom. Yet was it? Robinson was portrayed as an anti-Semite because he sent an email to students featuring a photo essay critical of Israel that had circulated online for weeks. While University of California administrators dallied, the ADL and its international network turned up the heat—signaling academics worldwide they could be next…

Marxists Must Stand Firm Against Ahmadinejad
Open letter to the workers of Venezuela on Hugo Chávez’s support for Ahmadinejad
By Maziar Razi
…The capitalist government of Iran has no fundamental disagreements or contradictions with US imperialism. It is in a ‘cold war’ with America and when it receives enough concessions, it will quickly enter into political dealings with the US and will turn its back on you. Indeed, the Iran regime has already helped the Americans in their military invasion and occupation of Afghanistan and Iraq – and installing the puppet regimes of Karzai and Maliki through significant trade, security and other deals. The capitalist government of Iran, despite the current apparent differences, is busy in close negotiations with the Obama government on resolving the problems of Afghanistan. This government, despite the “anti-imperialist” rhetoric, is heading towards re-establishing old links with the US. Ahmadinejad’s selection demonstrates the final turn of the regime towards resolving its problems with imperialism. Despite all the “enmity” and “anti-imperialist” gestures the regime is ready to resolve all its differences with America…

Obama’s Ghana speech
Louis Proyect: The Unrepentant Marxist
In the same fashion that was on display in his Cairo speech, Obama understood how to use words in Ghana that would make him appear as transcending colonialism, almost like the second coming of Franz Fanon. He alluded to his Kenyan grandfather: My grandfather was a cook for the British in Kenya, and though he was a respected elder in his village, his employers called him “boy” for much of his life. He was on the periphery of Kenya’s liberation struggles, but he was still imprisoned briefly during repressive times. In his life, colonialism wasn’t simply the creation of unnatural borders or unfair terms of trade — it was something experienced personally, day after day, year after year. He even had the nerve to invoke Martin Luther King Jr., who regrettably is not alive today to be leading Detroit auto workers in protest against the vicious onslaught organized by America’s first Black president…

Wall Street Journal Loves Obama’s Drone War Vs. Pakistan: “Unmanned Bombs Away”
Jeremy Scahill
The Wall Street Journal is officially in love with President Obama’s undeclared air war inside of Pakistan’s borders. In an unsigned editorial, the paper enthusiastically endorses Obama’s use of predator drones to bomb areas throughout Pakistan. The WSJ editors praise the administration, saying “to its credit, [the White House] has stepped up the use of Predators.” The editors declare: “When Pakistan’s government can exercise sovereignty over all its territory, there will be no need for Predator strikes. In the meantime, unmanned bombs away.”..

Gaza convoy stopped in Egypt
LET MY PEOPLE GO: AN EMERGENCY REPORT FROM VIVA PALESTINA
Viva Palestina
Yesterday, four buses carrying American citizens and their badly needed cargo of medical supplies bound for the destitute people of Gaza were abruptly stopped by the Egyptian authorities at the Suez Canal and prohibited from proceeding further. This blockade of our buses into the Sinai is the latest in a series of obstacles and frustrating delay tactics erected against this humanitarian mission and aid convoy. On Thursday, two busloads of drivers were denied access in Alexandria to the 47 new vehicles intended to carry our medical supplies into Gaza. The drivers remain stranded in the port city to this day…

GI Special 7G8: The One Flag Pole Salute [ 11 July 2009 ]
Thomas F. Barton
The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have forced the U.S. military to rapidly innovate. First came a plea from soldiers to get better-armored Humvees to protect against roadside bombs. Then, Defense Secretary Robert Gates made a push to bring out a huge armored truck called a mine-resistant, ambush-protected vehicle, or MRAP, which can survive almost any bomb buried under the road. But as the military has been innovating, the insurgency has, too. Recently, insurgents have been using a portable, powerful weapon called the RKG-3, says U.S. Army intelligence officer Maj. Chuck Assadourian.

Iraqi lawmaker blames Kurds for spate of bomb attacks
DPA
An Iraqi lawmaker on Sunday blamed Kurdish militias for a recent series of lethal attacks near the northern Iraqi city of Mosul, which have raised political tensions in the area. At least four people were killed and 35 others were wounded on Saturday, when a car bomb exploded in the eastern Mosul neighbourhood of Kukjali, a Shabak enclave. ‘Kurdish parties and the Kurdish Peshmerga forces are responsible for the explosions and acts of violence in the city of Mosul that have martyred the city, especially the attacks against the Shabaks,’ Iraqi lawmaker Hanin al-Qadu, who represents Iraq’s Shabak minority in parliament, told the German Press Agency dpa…

UK imposes embargo on arms exports to Israel
Saed Bannoura – IMEMC News
After a review on arms exports to Israel by the British government, the British Foreign Office has announced a partial arms embargo against Israel due to Israeli violations of British-Israeli security agreements. The review involved 182 arms export licenses from Britain to Israel, 5 of which were cancelled due to violations of signed agreements. The British government said Sunday that Israel had violated signed agreements during its 3-week long invasion of the Gaza Strip beginning in late December and ending January 19th. As a result, the British government will not be re-supplying parts or equipment for the Sa’ar 4.5 gunships it had sold to the Israeli military…
