The Culture of “ No Limit “ – 3
Layla Anwar, An Arab Woman Blues
…So America, In the Night of your souls, I am asking you the same question — what the hell were you thinking ? Were you thinking that your all permissiveness will go unnoticed, or unexposed ? Were you thinking that the Light of Dawn will not be knocking on your windows ? Or did you actually believe that those “stupid rag heads” of Iraqis will just sit and take it, take it with no limits… I suppose you miscalculated again. Because I am sitting right here, right now, in the middle of the Night and am about to give it to you again…the way you secretly like it…give it to a people with no limits, who secretly yearn for some…since they are incapable of imposing any on themselves…

Gaza’s hospitals short of surgeons and supplies
Eva Bartlett
One of the most densely populated places on earth only has two cardiac surgeons to serve its entire population. According to Dr. Nasser Tatter, head of Shifa hospital’s cardiology unit, that only explains part of the medical crisis that exists in the Gaza Strip today. “We are in bad need for cardiac surgeons,” said Dr. Tatter, further explaining that one of the two surgeons is ill and unable to perform surgeries. The second, Tatter added, isn’t able to work independently, rendering Gaza devoid of specialists able to perform open heart surgery..

Smile On The Face Of The Tiger
John Pilger
At 7.30 in the morning on 3 June, a seven-month-old baby died in the intensive care unit of the European Gaza Hospital in the Gaza Strip. His name was Zein Ad-Din Mohammed Zu’rob, and he was suffering from a lung infection which was treatable. Denied basic equipment, the doctors in Gaza could do nothing. For weeks, the child’s parents had sought a permit from the Israelis to allow them to take him to a hospital in Jerusalem, where he would have been saved. Like many desperately sick people who apply for these permits, the parents were told they had never applied. Even if they had arrived at the Erez Crossing with an Israeli document in their hands, the odds are that they would have been turned back for refusing the demands of officials to spy or collaborate in some way…

Into the Swat Refugee Camp
Down and Out in Shah Mansoor
By KATHY KELLY and DAN PEARSON
…A man who owned a small shop in Mingora described the carnage and chaos they had left behind. “There were not hundreds but thousands of dead bodies on the streets,” he said. “We had only enough time to dig a mass grave and cover some of the bodies with mud.” Since the media has been banned from entering Mingora, it’s impossible to establish facts about the numbers of civilians who were killed. But the men gathered around us nodded in agreement as the shopkeeper spoke. “They were killing us in that way, there, now in this way, here,” he said, pointing to the tents. “Aren’t we part of this country?” “For the past two years,” the shopkeeper continued, “the government hasn’t killed the Taliban. They only kill our women and children.” “The UNHCR has been helpful,” said another man, a farmer, “but so far no government official has come to ask how we are. Isn’t this our government?”…

Years of war have left more than five million Iraqi children orphans, with nearly half a million living on the streets. US reinforcements in place in southern Afghanistan

The Obama administration’s “surge” in Afghanistan is taking shape, with 10,000 marines from the North Carolina-based 2nd Marine Expeditionary Brigade (MEB) completing the commencement of their deployment to the volatile province of Helmand over the next several weeks. A Boy and an Artificial Leg: A Gaza Story
Ramzy Baroud
…Like Sobhi, disgracefully growing numbers of children forever maimed, dismembered and killed by Israel are not only somehow disregarded by the world media and therefore the world’s conscience – but to add insult to injury – they are even denied access to healthcare. Sobhi is one of many Gazan children that have been taken under the wing of the Palestinian Children’s Relief Fund, a non-profit, US based organization that organizes medical exchange programs, sending injured children abroad for treatment when it is inaccessible in Palestine, as well as sending medical teams to Palestine for short-term medical missions…

By Daniel Dombey
One of the most senior Democrats in Washington has dismissed a key element in the west’s long standing strategy on Iran’s nuclear programme as “ridiculous”. His comments throw open the debate about how far the US and its partners should go in seeking a compromise with Tehran after on Friday’s presidential election.
