Crumbs…
Layla Anwar, An Arab Woman Blues
Some of you are already familiar with my dear relative Radhee. Radhee who lives in an all sooooooneee ghetto, in a ghetto where to cross to the other side requires huge detours and being searched through endless checkpoints, and there is no guarantee that he can make it back to the ghetto alive. Radhee stopped going out unless it is imperative. Lately his heart condition has worsened to the point of necessitating angioplasty. Impossible in the “new Iraq “ to undergo such a thing. Hospitals don’t even have catheters to start with. As I mentioned before, even during the brutal embargo years, Ibn Sina hospital used to perform open heart surgery. Radhee tells me that now he is being followed by a junior MD who has not even graduated and is not specialized in anything. Radhee says there are no doctors left. And rightly so, since over 70 % of the Iraqi medical body has fled. And they are not planning on returning either…

Israeli Nazism is a clarion reality
Jews ought to deal with it, not deny it
Khalid Amayreh
Zionist supremacists from California to Occupied Jerusalem to Sydney are quite nervous these days as they watch many people around world getting themselves freed, slowly but definitely, from the shackles of Zionist propaganda. For over sixty years, classical Zionist lies about the crime against humanity, otherwise called Israel, prevailed to a large extent. The black was turned into white, the white into black, the big lie was transformed into a “truth” glorified by millions. The impoverished and thoroughly tormented Palestinian victims were portrayed as “terrorists and murderers, even anti-Semites who were trying to finish what Hitler had started.”..

The Abuses in Iraq were Learned in Operation Condor
By Manuel E. Yepe
…When the journalist compared the US forms of carrying out kidnappings, indiscriminate arrests, tortures, clandestine movements, and detentions without charges with what took place in Argentina at the Navy Mechanical School (ESMA), Andreu Guzmán notes: “If you look back at the report on Argentina issued by the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights in 1987, you see that a lot of what was done then during the antiterrorist struggle looks very familiar. Operation Cóndor is very similar to the policy of extraordinary renditions implemented by the United States. In Operation Cóndor people were kidnapped in one country and then surfaced in another country. There are many similarities with the old authoritarian methods of confronting real or supposed problems…

Iraqi detainee talks of ‘horror film’ experience at the hands of the US military
Wail al-Hafoth
One 40-year-old Iraqi man – who did not want to give his name – spent 18 months in Camp Cropper and Camp Bucca. He was arrested in September 2006 in the aftermath of an attack on a checkpoint south of Baghdad. He insists he had nothing to do with the attack…He spent a fortnight in Camp Cropper, where he was given a detention number and a medical examination, before being sent to Bucca. “Going to Camp Bucca was a horror story fit for a film. I think they [the US military] treat animals better than us when they transferred us in aeroplanes. On board they crowded the detainees in like a herd of sheep. There were about 300 of us – they were shouting at us all the time.”…

Timeline of Gaza Marine Zone, Fishermen and Natural Gas Deposits.
An Update
by David K. Schermerhorn
There is an historical connection between the Gazan community and the off shore fishery. In recent times some 3000 fishermen in over 700 boats made their livelihood in the waters off the shores of Gaza. Before 1978 when the fishing area included the sea off the Sinai coastline the area covered some 75,000 square kilometers. The larger boats are about 20 meters in length and usually carry a crew of 7. They are typically trawlers using downriggers to lower their nets to the ocean bed. Currently their main catch is bream or sardines that average between 8 and 14 inches. Smaller craft, hassakas, normally deploy their nets a few hundred meters off shore. The nets are then hauled in by hand. These catches are very modest…

On the Jewish state
Marcy Newman, body on the line
The other night Kamal Santamaria hosted a discussion of “obstacles to peace” in al jazeera’s “inside story” with David Mack, Mustafa Bargouthi, and Israeli terrorist Shmuel Sandler. The discussion is an interesting one, though i wish al jazeera would change the framework of their discussions to include concepts like justice and ideas like the one-state solution or liberating all of historic palestine. in any case, the program does a good job unpacking some of the basic bullshit issues that show once again how the zionist entity has never wanted peace, justice, or anything other than the theft of more land…

‘CQ’ says Rep. Jane Harman caught on wiretap with suspected Israeli agent discussing AIPAC espionage scandal – and that’s just the beginning!
Philip Weiss a
Amazing report by Jeff Stein at CQ, suggesting once again that Walt and Mearsheimer barely scraped the surface, if only journalists would pick up the ball: Rep. Jane Harman , the California Democrat with a longtime involvement in intelligence issues, was overheard on an NSA wiretap telling a suspected Israeli agent that she would lobby the Justice Department to drop espionage charges against two officials of the American Israeli Public Affairs Committee, the most powerful pro-Israel organization in Washington…

Saed Bannoura – IMEMC

Recognizing a Jewish state rejected by Washington and slammed by Hamas
Rami Almeghari – IMEMC
U.S envoy to the Middle East peace, George Mitchel, rejected Sunday Israeli Prime Minister’s call for the Palestinians to recognize Israel as a Jewish state, as a perquisite for resuming peace negotiations between the two sides. “Such a condition is unaccepted by the administration as Washington promotes a two-state solution”, Mitchel was quoted as saying. Over the weekend, Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu, told the American envoy during a meeting in Tel-Aviv that Israel wants to extract a Palestinian recognition of the Jewish state and that the ‘Iranian nuclear threats’, be tackled before Palestinian-Israeli peace talks are resumed…

Iraq: Muslim Brotherhood member elected speaker of Parliament
Iyad al-Samarrai, a strong critic of Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki, was elected Iraq’s parliament speaker on Sunday after the post was left vacant for nearly four months. “We need a process of reform in parliament,” Samarrai told reporters after the vote as he vowed to work with rival political blocs to advance legislation in the 275-member assembly and strengthen its oversight capacity. Samarrai belongs to the Islamic Party, the Iraqi branch of the Muslim Brotherhood, an Islamist movement founded in Egypt in 1928 with members and offshoots across the Muslim world…

Obama abroad: In some ways, much like Bush
Michael Barone
Barack Obama’s foreign policy is beginning to take shape. Semantically, it’s a sharp repudiation of the policies of the George W. Bush administration. In reality, it’s something like a continuation of Bush policies. Or, if you want to distinguish between the allegedly confrontation-minded policies of Bush’s first term and the more accommodationist policies of his second term — a distinction that I think is exaggerated but has something to it — then it’s something like the second Bush term…
