Comrade Fahoum: Boycott of anti-racism conference proves Obama is just new face for US imperialism
Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine
Comrade Marwan Fahoum, “Abu Sami,” member of the Political Bureau of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine said on March 2, 2009 that the decision of the new U.S. administration to boycott the UN conference against racism in Geneva clearly reveals that the Obama administration is no different than previous administrations concerning Palestine. Comrade Fahoum said that this action underlines once more that Obama is nothing more than a new face for the same U.S. imperialism, and emphasizes the strategic partnership between U.S. imperialism and Zionism. He also noted that it emphasizes once again the utter futility of relying upon the United States to assist the Palestinian cause in any way…

From Behind Black Shadows…
Layla Anwar, An Arab Woman Blues
…The news report concluded that this second visit from a highly placed Iranian official – the first visit was by Ahmadinejad in the U.S occupied Green Zone of Baghdad about a year ago – just in case you forgot again…
So this second visit, according to one news commentator is “A NATURAL EXTENSION OF THE ALREADY EXISTING TIES BETWEEN IRAN AND (American occupied) IRAQ.”
A natural extension since very close bilateral ties of military, economic and political nature already exist…and since there is a TOTAL absence of any ARAB role in Iraq. Moreover the new Iraqi constitution erased the word Iraq as an ARAB nation. The word ARAB was erased. The new constitution still not finalized calls Iraq an ISLAMIC country…

Former Guantánamo guard details prisoner abuse
By Alexander Fangmann
In testimony given in December to a US human rights organization, former Army Spc. Brandon Neely, previously a guard at Guantánamo, detailed the torture and abuse that he witnessed or personally participated in at the notorious US military prison. Neely’s account makes clear that the inhuman abuse he saw was an integral and tacitly accepted part of the day-to-day routine at the prison. The testimony stands as yet another indictment of the entire US political and military leadership responsible for the camp’s establishment and continued operations…

Militants’ sudden unity threatens Obama’s Afghanistan strategy
Saeed Shah | McClatchy Newspapers
A new alliance of Pakistani extremist groups — united after rival warlords vowed to renew the fight against international troops — threatens to escalate the insurgency in neighboring Afghanistan just as thousands more U.S. soldiers are to be deployed to the region. NATO nations, which lead the international coalition in Afghanistan, are concerned that the new militant partnership in Pakistan’s Waziristan region, which lies on the Afghan border, will significantly increase cross-border influx of fighters and suicide bombers. The move could preempt President Barack Obama’s new Afghanistan strategy, even before it’s launched.

The bombing did not cause any casualties but inflicted more damage to the already devastated civilian houses, he elaborated…

PFLP affirms that PLO membership does not mean acceptance of the “two-state solution”
Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine
The PFLP does not accept the “two-state solution” as the final goal for the Palestinian people or the Palestinian cause, but instead views the strategic goal as the liberation of all of Palestine, said Comrade Marwan Fahoum, “Abu Sami,” a member of the Political Bureau of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine said on March 2, 2009. The PFLP’s acceptance of the establishment a Palestinian state on all territories occupied in 1967 with Jerusalem as its capital, and the return of all refugees to their homes from which they were driven, is part of the only acceptable solution to progress towards achieving the strategic goal, the liberation of all of Palestine, said Comrade Fahoum… This statement came in response to the statement of PA President Mahmoud Abbas, Abu Mazen, stating that all PLO member organizations, those currently in the PLO and those that will join, as well as all factions taking part in a government of national reconciliation, must commit themselves to the “two-state solution” and the acceptance of the Oslo agreements and other “agreements” of the “peace process.”…

German Government Directly Involved the Gaza War Crimes
Kawther Salam
I recently had occasion to speak with Fritz Edlinger, the Secretary General of the “Society for Austro-Arab Relations” in Vienna. Edlinger was born in 1948, and he completed his secondary school in 1964 in Vienna. He studied history and political sciences at the University of Vienna. Fritz Edlinger has often been smeared as anti-Semitic and attacked verbally by others due his support for the rights of Palestinians. Some Austrians see Fritz Edlinger as a Palestinian more than an Austrian…

Foreign troops can’t defeat Afghanistan’s insurgency: Harper
The insurgency in Afghanistan will never be defeated only by maintaining an international troop presence in the country, Prime Minister Stephen Harper said in a U.S. television interview Sunday. “We’re not going to ever defeat the insurgency. My reading of Afghanistan in history is that it’s probably had an insurgency forever of some kind,” Harper told Fareed Zakaria of CNN…

Israel to demolish 55 homes in Jerusalem-area refugee camp
Ma’an news
Israeli authorities plan to demolish 55 homes in a refugee camp near Jerusalem, according to a member of the Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC). The Fatah-affiliated PLC member, Jihad Abu Zneid, told Ma’an on Tuesday that Israel informed 55 Palestinian families at the Jerusalem-area Shu’fat Refugee Camp that their homes were slated for demolition, citing that their homes were built without permits. Abu Zneid issued the statement from her office in Jerusalem, warning of what she called an Israeli policy of “genocide” against Palestinians in and around the city, aimed at displacing the indigenous residents of Jerusalem…

The Right to No Right in Gaza
By Natalie Abou Shakra – Gaza City
“Can we take more massacres? Answer me! Can we?” demanded Fadi, an 18 year old student at Palestine University in Gaza. The hall was packed with students in a two-hour seminar entitled “Still Alive” organized by student committees. Many pupils consecutively took the stage and narrated the events in their own subjective way, speaking about their realities from day one, aligning their confrontations with the human slaughtering, displacement, apprehension, shelling, destruction and incomprehensible chaos. Mazen, one of the speakers, expressed his disgust at the Israeli Occupation Forces’ doings at the Azbet Abed Rabbu area, where the soldiers would imprison families of a single neighbourhood in one house. They would then ask one of the fathers to choose a boy amongst his sons for them to shoot, and if he doesn’t, they would slaughter the whole family keeping only the boy alive. “How can we express this hurt, this pain, the deaths and wounds that we have lived?” …

Systemic Failure: Capitalism ‘Lays An Egg’
Stephen Lendman
After the 1929 October 24, 28 and 29 market crash, the weekly entertainment industry magazine Variety (on October 30) published its most famous ever headline: “Wall Street Lays an Egg.” In October 2008, history repeated, and since the October 2007 peak, equity prices plunged over 50% after the Dow and S & P (in February) posted their second worst ever monthly percentage declines – topped only in 1933 during the depths of the Great Depression. So far, the current market drop matches its 1929 – 1932 pace, and like then, shows no signs of abating. With world economies collapsing, stocks are still overvalued by every metric – dividends, price to book, sales, free cash flow, or earnings based on GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principals) or “reported” earnings, not “operating” ones, easily manipulated to exclude “write-offs.” By the mid-late 1990s, companies switched to the latter method to hide over-valuations. The practice still continues to let expensive stocks masquerade as cheap ones and make the market overall look attractive to the unwary…

Why is Hamas Excluded from Gaza Reconstruction Framework?
Hiyam Noir, PalestineFreeVoice
Raising funds for the rebuilding of the devastated Gaza Strip was the important topic on Monday, when international donors gathered in a conference in Sharm Al Sheikh, situated in the administrative hub of the Southern Sinai province of Egypt.Meanwhile in the wartorn and winter cold Gaza, 50,800 thousand Palestinians are homeless they live in temporary shelters, hungry and traumatized, without clean water and electricity and the Israeli siege continues, including the blocking or delay of urgent needed aid supplies. Restrictions on basic food, clothing and schoolbooks are being experienced daily and shipment of reconstruction building materials are still prohibited. The Israeli ZioNazi occupant maintain its strangulation of Gaza. The crossings are to this day partially closed or not open at all, the amount of goods allowed into Gaza is limited, essential supplies and equipment needed for rebuilding are not allowed. Why S. can’t see his children and wife
Eva Bartlett | In Gaza
The closed borders affect Palestinians in so many ways. The most obvious and deadly affects are the barring entry of aid into Gaza, though it is apparently stockpiled on the Israeli and Egyptian sides, foods rotting and expiring, needed blankets and clothing sitting where not needed. The closed borders also mean medical patients aren’t getting out, just as its been for much of the last 3 years, since Hamas was elected and the world sealed up Gaza under the inadequate descriptions “blockade” and merely a “siege”. S. isn’t ill and doesn’t actually need anything material…But his family is in the West Bank and he hasn’t seen them for about 4 years, since they were last briefly able to visit Gaza. He hasn’t seen his real home, in Bethlehem, since he was exiled to Gaza 7 years ago…

INTERPOL issues denial of reported Iranian request seeking arrest of 15 senior Israeli officials
Statement by INTERPOL General Secretariat headquarters, Lyon, France
While INTERPOL does not ordinarily comment on false stories reported in the media, in light of the nature of recent erroneous articles reporting that INTERPOL is being used by Iranian authorities to seek the arrest of 15 senior Israeli officials on alleged charges of war crimes in Gaza, the Organization is taking the unusual step of making the following public statement: “INTERPOL has neither been requested to issue by Iran, nor has it issued on behalf of Iran or any of its 187 member countries any Red Notices for persons wanted internationally or other requests seeking the arrest of senior Israeli officials for alleged war crimes in relation to the Gaza offensive in December and January.”…

Israeli limits stymie Gaza rebuilding
Ilene R. Prusher | Staff writer of The Christian Science Monitor
Maamon Khozendar, chairman of Khozendar and Sons Company Ltd., is one of Gaza’s most successful industrialists. He’s a petroleum importer, and executes major construction projects around the Palestinian enclave. What he’d most like to do now is help his fellow Gazans recover from the devastating 22-day war that came to an uncertain pause in late January. But rebuilding and rehabilitating Gaza requires the basics of the construction industry – cement and steel – that Israel will not allow in through their border crossings… Without a substantial shift in Israel’s policy, the $2.8 billion the Palestinian Authority (PA) hopes will be pledged Monday will probably not go beyond humanitarian needs…
