Online Censorship by Israel: What do BLOGGER, YOUTUBE, FACEBOOK, and WIKIPEDIA have in common?
Irish Palestine Solidarity
…So, to sway public opinion of Israel and it’s war crimes in Lebanon and Palestine, back in 2000 they decided to create an online group called JIDF or Jewish Internet Defence Force, to manipulate polls and message boards and blogs by spamming comments and votes. However, this has now progressed into removing sites, videos and blogs that critisize Israel or it’s genocide in Palestine, also sites that are against Zionism, which, importantly, is NOT the same as being against Jews!! And there is another group as well, called GIYUS, or “Give Israel Your United Support”…

Use of Depleted Uranium proved in NATO Bombings
AriRusila
An Italian non-governmental organisation – the Rome-based “Un ponte per …” – is investigating consequences of NATO’s 1999 bombings of Serbia and the effects of the use of depleted uranium (DU) on the civilian population. The NATO allegedly used shells with depleted uranium which are still today causing an increase in the number of cancer patients. NATO has admitted the use of DU in the bombing campaign and Italian media has reported that 45 Italian soldiers who served in the international forces in Kosovo (KFOR) died after the bombing and 515 became ill with cancer. In Serbia and its separatist province Kosovo the number of civilian victims is still unexplored but most likely the figures are manifold compared to those of soldiers…

Gaza War Strengthened Israel’s Far Right
By Roni Ben Efrat
The results of the elections to Israel’s 18th Knesset clearly bolstered the far Right, which won 65 of the parliament’s 120 seats. This outcome is partly due to the paralysis that beset Ehud Olmert’s government. Almost three years ago he received a mandate to advance the peace process, but he squandered it on two wars. The lack of progress toward peace has had the effect of strengthening Hamas. It has also encouraged chauvinistic trends in Israel, as expressed in wall-to-wall support for the Gaza War. Israelis turned their backs on the notion that the conflict with the Palestinians must be solved by diplomacy…

US finds 13 civilians died in Afghanistan strike
By JASON STRAZIUSO, Associated Press Writer & Jason Straziuso, Associated Press Writer
An operation the American military at first described as a “precision strike” instead killed 13 Afghan civilians and only three militants, the U.S. said Saturday, three days after sending a general to the site to investigate. The U.S. military originally said 15 militants were killed Tuesday in a coalition operation in the Gozara district of Herat province, but Afghan officials said six women and two children were among the dead, casting doubt on the U.S. claim…

Abu Abir: Shalit wounded in Israeli war on Gaza
Palestinian Information Center
Abu Abir, the popular resistance committees’ spokesman, has affirmed that the captured Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit was wounded in the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip that continued for more than three weeks. The London-based Al-Hayat newspaper on Saturday quoted Abu Abir as saying that what was announced by Hamas in this regard was not media fabrication. He added that Israel is responsible for Shalit’s safety, but would not divulge the nature of his injury…

Obama Escalates Drone Strikes Inside Pakistan
Strikes Increase in Number, Severity in Recent Weeks
Jason Ditz
President Barack Obama made clear his desire to launch attacks onto Pakistani soil early in the campaign, and in his first month since taking office it has become evident that is escalating the number and severity of the attacks using drone aircraft well beyond what the Bush Administration’s attacks in its final several months in office. Two major strikes have been launch in the past week, in the South Waziristan and Kurram Agencies of Pakistan’s Federally Administered Tribal Areas. The attacks killed 30 and 31, respectively, and both appeared to target militants affiliated with Baitullah Mehsud…

Uncomfortable Others: Afghan Civilians Wounded by America
In our contemporary world where the visual message trumps the written word, photos of those killed or wounded by U.S/NATO actions rarely are published
Marc W. Herold
If Afghan victims of American or NATO forces get mentioned at all in the mainstream press, it is the dead. Those permanently maimed in “precision” air strikes or midnight assaults by U.S. Special Forces hardly ever are worthy of notice. Yet, such attacks result in injured as well as wounded; indeed, the ratio of wounded to civilians killed in the predominant air attacks in Afghanistan during the initial U.S. bombing campaign was about 1.8 to 1. This ratio has likely decreased as the fighting became more lethally focused, but a decreasing ratio raises the specter of war crimes having been committed against civilians…

No Coincidences — Hasta Siempre !
Layla Anwar, An Arab Woman Blues
…Che was murdered by the Imperialists, so was Saddam. Che went to his execution with dignity, honor so did Saddam Hussein, Che was said to look “dreadful” by his capturers – the same was said about Saddam Hussein. Che asked for something to smoke in his final hours “Che held his head high, looked everyone straight in the eyes and asked only for something to smoke” so did Saddam in his last hours… Moments before his execution Che was asked if he was thinking about his own immortality— “ No, I’m thinking about the immortality of the revolution.” Che Guevara then told his executioner, “I know you’ve come to kill me. Shoot, coward, you are only going to kill a man.” (for more— click here) And this is what the great Martyr Saddam Hussein said before his execution “Long live Iraq, Long Live Palestine, Long Live the Arab Ummah FREE…” And minutes before his death – he replied ironically to his taunters, to Muqtada Al-Sadr and the rest of the traitors from Iran working for America – “Is this what manhood is all about ? Hiya hadhee el Rujala?” Post-Execution : the body of Che was paraded around, naked, like the bodies of Saddam Hussein’s sons and his own…paraded naked, photographed and passed around…

IRAQ: Doctors in Hiding Treat as They Can
Dahr Jamail
Seventy percent of Iraq’s doctors are reported to have fled the war-torn country in the face of death threats and kidnappings. Those who remain live in fear, often in conditions close to house arrest. “I was threatened I would be killed because I was working for the Iraqi government at the Medical City,” Dr. Thana Hekmaytar told IPS. Baghdad Medical City is the largest medical complex in the country. Dr. Hekmaytar, a head and neck surgeon, has now been practising at the Saint Raphael Hospital in Baghdad for the last five years…

Parricide, Homicide and the Sanctimonious
Sameh Brill
The 22-day sadistic Israeli Assault on Gaza which ended up with flowing rivers of innocent blood of 108 women and 437 children isn’t a deviation of the Zio-Nazi mainstream terrorism in the region, The Israel of Operation “Cast Lead” is still the Israel of 1948 Plan Dalet, under which 840,000 Arabs were expelled from more than 530 Palestinian Villages and towns. 15,000 of them were ethnically cleansed adding 20,500 square Km to the Zionist occupied land. Like a jigsaw collecting piece after piece to complete the ugly picture of a so-called Promised Land for the Jews, hiding behind their holy scriptures interpreted by ill minds and worldly whims. Israel of Operation “Cast Lead” is still the 1948 Israel of massacres; of Deir Yassin where in all over 100 men, women, and children were systematically murdered. Fifty-three orphaned children were literally dumped along the wall of the Old City; of Sabra and Shatila where 1,500 Palestinians were massacred under the watchful Eye of Ariel Sharon, the Defense Minster back then. Who entered with his cursed Zionist feet into Al-Aqsa Mosque and provoked the Intifada (up-rising) of Al-Aqsa in 2000; Still Israel of more than 50 documented bloody massacres committed over 60 years of occupation…

Who’s behind Pak-Iran Tension?
Dr Shahid Qureshi, UK
…Since 2001, US policy is quite focused on Shias and Sunnis…Interestingly the wizard of the US policy on Shias and Sunnis is Vali Nasar son of Husain Nasr who was close to Shah of Iran. He is Professor at the US Naval Postgraduate School, an Adjunct Senior Fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations. He tells people what they want to hear not what they should know!…The great game of weakening Pakistan was going on for few years but now it has taken pace and no one seems to be bothered? Main features of the game are (1) Humiliation of Pakistan armed forces, (2) Taking over nuclear assets (3) Installing minority group people in powerful positions, which Zardari is already doing. (4) Use minority groups as collaborators. It did not fully work in Iraq but did bring chaos and destruction…

US commander warns American troops will be in Afghanistan for years
By Peter Symonds
The top US commander in Afghanistan, General David McKiernan, warned on Wednesday that the huge boost to US troop numbers announced this week would have to continue for years. His comments underscore the fact that the Obama administration is preparing for a dramatic escalation of the war in Afghanistan and neighbouring Pakistan that will inevitably heighten tensions throughout the region, especially in Central Asia. In a bid to shore up the US-led occupation of Afghanistan, President Obama announced on Tuesday that an additional 17,000 US soldiers would be sent there. McKiernan told the media that the troop buildup was “not a temporary force uplift” and would “need to be sustained for some period of time,” adding that he was looking at “the next three to four to five years”. The US already has 36,000 troops deployed in Afghanistan, along with about 30,000 other foreign soldiers operating under NATO command…

The real Israel-Palestine story is in the West Bank
Israel’s targeting of civilian resistance to the separation wall proves the two-state solution is now just a meaningless slogan
Ben White
It is quite likely that you have not heard of the most important developments this week in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. In the West Bank, while it has been “occupation as normal”, there have been some events that together should be overshadowing Gaza, Gilad Shalit and Avigdor Lieberman. First, there have been a large number of Israeli raids on Palestinian villages, with dozens of Palestinians abducted. These kinds of raids are, of course, commonplace for the occupied West Bank, but in recent days it appears the Israeli military has targeted sites of particularly strong Palestinian civil resistance to the separation wall…

US funded death squads in Pakistan
Ever wondered where funds allocated for community development in tribal areas are going. Well here is one flaring example. Government officials (on the right side in the picture) facilitate, fund and arm death squads with a licence to kill with impunity. In the land of suffering masses, where chidlren are starving and parents are committing suicides due to unemployment and poverty, the above death squade was established recently in Banu, Pakistan. Apart from investing millions in this tried and tested way of promoting violence, the interesting point to note is the variety of ways in which Paksitanis are being pitted against each other…

Gazan coast becoming a ‘no-go’ zone
International Solidarity Movement
On Saturday 14th February, 23 year-old Rafiq abu Reala was shot by Israeli naval forces whilst fishing in Gazan territorial waters, approximately two nautical miles out from the port of Gaza city. He was in a simple fishing vessel, not much larger than a rowing boat, with a small outboard engine, known locally as a ‘hassaka’. Rafiq, his brother Rajab and another friend were following the course of a shoal of fish. A group of five more hassakas were out at the time, about a kilometre to the west of Rafiq’s boat, further out to sea. An Israeli naval gunboat approached the area and began shooting at the other hassakas, which quickly changed course and headed east, back towards shore…

‘EU Paying for Gaza Blockade’
David Cronin
European Union aid has been given to an Israeli oil company which has reduced the supply of fuel to Gaza as part of an economic blockade internationally recognised as illegal, Brussels officials have admitted. Almost 97 million euros (124 million dollars) in funds managed by the European Commission, the executive arm of the EU, were handed over directly to the firm Dor Alon between February 2008 and January this year. Under orders from the Israeli authorities, Dor Alon has been rationing the amount of industrial diesel brought into Gaza in order to deprive its 1.5 million inhabitants of electricity. Power cuts have been a regular occurrence in Gaza because of Israeli actions undertaken since the militant party Hamas won an unexpected victory in Palestinian legislative elections during 2006…

It Ain’t Over ‘Til It’s Over: Protest the Occupations and Wars of Washington
Ron Jacobs
As Barack Obama’s troop escalation begins in Afghanistan and talking heads debate how many more troops the US should send, the leadership of what was once the largest antiwar organization (UFPJ) in the United States rejected a call for a unified antiwar protest on March 21st, 2009. Instead, they issued a call to go to Wall Street on April 4th, 2009 and encourage the war profiteers to move “beyond a war economy,” while toning down the demand to end the wars and occupations now to a demand to merely end them. Like antiwar organizer Ashley Smith told me in an email: “(That is) something Dick Cheney could support.” The implication of this call by UFPJ is that now that Barack Obama and the Democrats are in power, there is no longer any need to protest against war…

Afghans protest civilian killing, arrests: police

Hundreds of Afghans blocked a key road outside Kabul for several hours on Saturday to protest the alleged killing of a civilian in an international military operation, police said. Four other men were arrested in the overnight operation in the province of Logar, adjoining the capital, provincial police chief General Mustafah Mohseni told AFP. Locals said the four were also civilians. The allegation comes as the US military and Afghan government investigated an air strike on Monday last week which killed up to 13 civilians, including women and children, in the western province of Herat…

To the President of the State of Israel and the Director of the Yad Vashem Memorial
Remove Our Grandmother’s Name from the Wall at Yad Vashem
By MICHAEL NEUMANN and OSHA NEUMANN
Following the example of Jean-Moise Braitberg, we ask that our grandmother’s name be removed from the wall at Yad Vashem. Her name is Gertrud Neumann. Your records state that she was born in Kattowitz on June 6, 1875 and died in Theresienstadt. M. Braitberg delivers his request with excellent reasons and eloquent personal testimony. His words are inspiring, but they give you – and those who stand with you – too much credit. I will instead be brief. Please take this as an expression of my disgust and contempt for your state and all it represents… I do not believe that the Jewish people, in whose name you have committed so many crimes with such outrageous complacency, can ever rid itself of the shame you have brought upon us. Nazi propaganda, for all its calumnies, never disgraced and corrupted the Jews; you have succeeded in this. You haven’t the courage to take responsibility for your own sadistic acts: with unparalleled insolence, you set yourself up as spokesmen for an entire race, as if our very existence endorsed your conduct. …

STRUGGLE FOR KABUL: THE TALIBAN ADVANCE
ICOS / The Senlis Council, Via Thepeoplesvoice.org
The Taliban now holds a permanent presence in 72% of Afghanistan, up from 54% a year ago. Taliban forces have advanced from their southern heartlands, where they are now the de facto governing power in a number of towns and villages, to Afghanistan’s western and north-western provinces, as well as provinces north of Kabul. Within a year, the Taliban’s permanent presence in the country has increased by a startling 18%. Three out of the four main highways into Kabul are now compromised by Taliban activity. The capital city has plummeted to minimum levels of control, with the Taliban and other criminal elements infiltrating the city at will…

Video: US Empire and the Conflict in Israel/Palestine
GRITtv
Why Palestine? It’s hard to overstate the significance of Israel/Palestine to global politics. Some say that Barack Obama’s success or failure will be judged on whether a resolution to the conflict is reached during his presidency. For others the issue has deep moral resonance. As an indication of the fault lines in America, Hampshire College’s recent decision to divest from companies that do business with Israel has been both repudiated and celebrated as a major breakthrough. Ali Abunimah, editor and founder of The Electronic Intifada says that Palestine matters precisely because it is the site of the last Western colonial project in the Third World and that opposition to Israel is also opposition to US hegemony in the region…

A rocket fired from Lebanon has landed in northern Israel,, wounding three people and prompting Israel to respond with an artillery barrage, the Israeli army said. Iran blocks Web sites promoting reformist Khatami
ALI AKBAR DAREINI, AP
Iranian authorities have blocked two Web sites promoting the presidential bid of Mohammed Khatami, reformists said Saturday, in a first sign that powerful hard-liners might seek to thwart his challenge to Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in the June 12 election. Khatami declared on Feb. 8 he would run again for president, setting the stage for a major political showdown in coming months between the popular reformist — who made dialogue with the West a centerpiece of his eight years as president — and the country’s ruling hard-liners. His candidacy poses a serious threat amid popular discontent with Ahmadinejad over the sagging economy, and the action against the Web sites came as Khatami named leaders in charge of his election campaign…
