BREAKING NEWS www.vheadline.com/readnews.asp?id=21502 The Office of the Vice President reports: The Chairman of the National Assembly‚s Foreign Relations Commission, Tarek William Saab, characterized the statement released Friday by Peter DeShazo, US adjunct subsecretary of State for Interamerican Affairs as an “impropriate act.” “It‚s enough that they’re interfering in Venezuela‚s internal affairs and supporting one side.” DeShazo said that the US will accept the results of a presidential recall referendum if the process is “free and transparent,” according to the news agency DPA. When asked who or what body would be in charge of defining whether the referendum is clean or transparent, DeShazo refused to answer and left, without answering any more questions. DeShazo made his statements following a debate on the Venezuelan referendum in which he was a panelist. The debate took place at the Center for Strategic International Studies (CSIS), a Washington “think tank.” Saab responded to DeShazo‚s statements by saying that none of the (US) spokesmen have a means of measuring transparency. “He has neither an electronic, nor a digital measuring device. To him, transparency means screaming to high heaven if Chavez wins, and if (Chavez loses), then he’ll salute the result.” Saab said that what‚s important is not what those spokesmen say or think, but rather what the National Elections Council (CNE) announces. He said that there are no doubts about the arbiter, as demonstrated by Thursday‚s actions (announcing the repairs results), giving Venezuela and the world a “moral and ethical” lecture. “We’re used to the US spokesmen’s linguistic somersaults that try to say things in between lines, but which one can easily interpret. I think that one of the disturbing factors in the internal processes of the international observers in Venezuela has been the avalanche, the verbal escalation, the attitudes of the US spokesmen. I think that we’ve had enough. It’s enough that those who aren’t Venezuelans and who don’t know anything about international law, are interfering in Venezuela’s internal affairs and supporting one side.” Positive statements from the OAS and Carter Center Assemblyman Saab said that the Carter Center‚s and the Organization of American States‚ (OAS) joint communication seems very positive. A estas afirmaciones, respondió el diputado Saab que ninguno de estos voceros tiene cómo medir la transparencia. “Él no tiene un medidor electrónico, ni digital. Pero yo interpreto que la transparencia para él es, que si gana Chávez pegará el grito en el cielo y si la decisión es contraria ellos la saludarían‰. En ese sentido resaltó que lo importante no es lo que digan o piensen estos voceros sino lo que anuncie el CNE. Expresó que aquí no hay dudas del árbitro y que quedó demostrado con la actuación del día de ayer (anunciaron las cifras de los reparos), dando una lección de “moral y ética‰ al país y al mundo. “Estamos acostumbrados a estas cabriolas lingüísticas, de voceros estadounidenses que te quieren decir cosas entre líneas, pero que uno las interpreta claramente. Yo creo que uno de los factores de perturbación dentro de lo que es el proceso interno de los observadores venezolanos ha sido la avalancha, la escalada verbal, la propia actitud de voceros estadounidenses. Yo creo que ya basta. Basta que quienes no son venezolanos, quienes no tienen ni siquiera por derecho internacional, cualidad para estar entrometiéndose en los asuntos internos de Venezuela y estarían apoyando a una de las partes‰. El diputado Saab comentó que le parece muy positivo el comunicado que difundió el Centro Carter y al OEA, donde expresaron su reconocimiento a la labor del CNE tanto en la etapa de los reparos y como en el anuncio oportuno de los resultados. “Por lo tanto para nosotros, los venezolanos en su gran mayoría, lo que dice el Centro Carter y la OEA, es algo que conocíamos, que sabemos, porque Venezuela vive efectivamente una democracia de grandes y de tremendas raíces populares‰. Precisó que “esta participación del proceso de reparos, estuvo enmarcada en una participación democrática, cívica‰ que pudo detener “aquel intento sistemático de un sector de la oposición de promover en nombre de sus ideales, entre comillas, golpes de estado militar, como el que hubo el 11 de abril‰. La gente defenderá a Chávez en el revocatorio A juicio del diputado, el próximo domingo en la concentración de la avenida Bolívar, la gente reaccionará en contra de los sectores golpistas y antidemocráticos que “tienen conexión con corporaciones transnacionales que quieren vender este país‰. Asimismo consideró que el pueblo reaccionará en contra de estos sectores “en la gran movilización internacional en pro de defender al Presidente Chávez, en el revocatorio, porque la gente sabe lo que está en juego‰.
