I worked extensively in Venezuela in the 70s, 80s and 90s. My wife is from Venezuela. Her father and family would be in the top 1-2% of the country.

During my years of working with PDVSA and observing the total corruption and theft of the national treasury, I was amazed that a revolution had not taken place.

When CAP was giving money away to friends in the 70s by borrowing from Jimmy Carter at 16%, I was shocked. I was told that I could go get a loan for US$1 million and then use it to buy a little land, buy a big plane and apartment in Miami (place of choice for the corrupt from Latin America).

I observed, from my wife's family business, the total lack of paying taxes and bypassing of all normal business regulations. I observed the poor and the abuses of lack of education (keep them stupid and in virtual slavery for a few pennies a day) and medical assistance.

My wife just returned from Venezuela for two weeks. She was PLEASANTLY SURPRISED. In fact she discovered the bunch of garbage that GLOBOVISION is spewing forth. Of course I have already been telling her the truth about the opposition media.

Her mother made a statement that the Venezuelan foreign debt was created under Chavez?

Then I told her ex-PDVSA family that striking against the country as they did would have been meet with immediate government action (in the United States). In fact R. Reagan fired the air traffic controllers immediately when they tried something of the same.

I was told that was not true and lies.

I have come to realize the opposition are so filled with hate that any sense of good improvements will be overlooked and totally lied about in the media.

Her reports to me have convinced me that Chavez needs to be re-elected. The streets are safer in PLC, cleaner and just over-all better. In fact, I am now willing to buy an apartment for her now in El Morro.  Not before.

For your information, I am a Republican, support George Bush and about as far right as you can get. However, a government must be of the people, for the people and by the people.

Not just 1-2% of the people…

If you notice I did not see the need to imply or use the profanity or asterisks to indicate the use of improper words. From my viewpoint (wife's opinion and other sources) the only way Chavez will be recalled is by total corruption of the voting process. And the amazing thing about this is the opposition sees no problem with destruction of the democratic process in the name of democracy (democracy only for them).
