VENPRES' Maria Victoria Verde reports: US State Department spokesman Richard Boucher doesn't recognize the capture of Colombian paramilitaries in Venezuela as a positive act, excusing himself for following the case by only watching US news broadcasts.

However, the State Department spokesman, without being asked, emphasized that the United States denies any involvement with those paramilitaries, and with any other plan to overthrow the democratically elected government of President Hugo Chavez Frias.

“I know that there are charges that this is all part of a US plot against the Chavez government. Before you ask me about that, let me tell you, one more time, that those accusations are irresponsible and unfounded,” added Boucher at his press conference.

Continuing with his policy of making observations, as he did with respect to the recall referendum process, without anything substantial to add, Boucher said that the United States will continue following developments very closely by watching news broadcasts, … “but we don't have any information on the investigation that the Venezuelan authorities are conducting!”

In recent weeks, the US has severely criticized the government of Venezuela for not cooperating with the fight against terrorism because, according to US news broadcasts, the Venezuelan government maintains ties with Colombian revolutionary forces.

This time, Boucher didn't make commentaries on Venezuela's cooperative actions against terrorism, despite the capture of these paramilitaries, limiting himself to saying that paramilitaries .. “are on the list of terrorist organizations, and for that reason, the US is taking its own steps to prevent their activities.”
