The impact of the recently released report of Detlev Mehlis, a German prosecutor appointed by the UN to handle one of the most critical investigations in the history of Middle East, goes beyond solving the riddle of who’s behind the assassination of Lebanese PM Rafiq Al Hariri, it is linked to questionable interests of the U.S., Israel and other European countries.

No wonder why Mehlis was chosen for these positions since he has close links to different intelligence agencies.

On 27 October 2005, Addiyar, a Lebanese newspaper published an interview with a Dr. Dodin, German publisher, in which he accused Mehlis of non-professionalism.

The German publisher, who was following up closely Mr. Mehlis’ activities for the last 20 years, said that his establishment has appointed professional lawyers to launch an independent investigation into the credibility and professionalism of Mr. Mehlis. German experts are currently studying Mehlis Report, and the results will be presented to the world on a 3rd of November press conference in Berlin.

“I want to assure you that Mr. Mehlis has no professional ability to conduct such a sensitive investigation. That is not my own view, but also the view of the majority of legal experts in Germany,” Dr. Dodin.

He added that there are many court resolutions that confirm Mehlis’ inability. He mentioned as an example, the judge in the case of “La Belle” café bombing has documented in his final statement that prosecutor Mehlis was not honest.

“The choice of Mehlis was done because of his links to the German, American, French and Israeli intelligences,” he added, mentioning instances from different cases where Mehlis used French, American and Israeli Agents in his cases, and wondering how Mehlis could have these connections with those agents.

He also mentioned how Mehlis ignored all the information presented to him regarding “Mohammad Alamayra,” a notorious Mossad agent wanted in “La Belle” case. Mehlis has his own twisted way of forging evidence by forging witnesses, and “Mohammad Zuhair AlSeddique” is not the first one. He used the same way before in other cases.

“The peace movement in Germany,” Dr. Dodin said, “is astonished how can Mehlis thank Israel for her close cooperation with him and then he says in Beirut in a press conference that he didn’t have any official contact or follow up with Israel.” He noted that Mehlis is a famous figure in the German society; known for fiercely suppressing a demonstration of German students and workers who were evacuated from their residences. Also in 1989, a division led by Mehlis was dissolved for conducting illegal activities.

How come Mehlis was portrayed by the world media a professional, honest and diligent man while the German public knows his true character?

Mehlis’ report is not meant to uncover the truth, what Mehlis is doing now is conducting the plans of the “New Nazis” or “New Conservatives” in Bush’s administration.
