Admiral: Pakistan OKs Bigger U.S. Role
By ROBERT BURNS. AP Military Writer
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) – Pakistan is taking a more welcoming view of U.S. suggestions for using American troops to train and advise its own forces in the fight against anti-government extremists, the commander of U.S. forces in that region said Wednesday.

Pakistani troops ‘flee border post’ with Afghanistan
Aljazeera.net
A Pakistani security outpost near the border with Afghanistan has reportedly been abandoned by government troops, due to threats from pro-Taliban fighters. Local residents said the site was abandoned on Thursday, a day after tribal fighters captured a nearby fort. The army, however, said that all troops had not left the post at Saklatoi in South Waziristan. “It is incorrect. Frontier Corps personnel are still in that fort, it is with us. Reports that it has been captured are incorrect,” Major General Athar Abbas told the AFP news agency. Kamal Hyder, Al Jazeera’s correspondent in Islamabad, said that local reports confirmed that there had been an incident at the camp….

Musharraf’s administration was in power for just over a year when 9/11 happened. Musharraf was told by the United States in no uncertain terms that Pakistan would be bombed back to the stone age if he chose not to participate in the so called war on terror. Although he has been a reluctant player in this American game but, his participation is the major reason for his unpopularity in the country. The conflict is between the United States and the people of Afghanistan, but Pakistan has been dragged into it by force, certainly not its own choice. This may well be due to an American plan to render Pakistan and its administration extremely weak and chaotic, only to use the excuse to control its nuclear assets in the end
Using Bhutto for Imperial Gain
by Stephen Lendman
Benazir Bhutto led the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) as “chairperson for life” until her death. She was the privileged daughter of former Pakistan President and Prime Minister, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, who was hanged in 1979 at the likely behest of Washington and replaced by military dictator General Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq. He later outlived his usefulness and died in a “mysterious” plane crash CIA may have arranged that allowed Bhutto to become Prime Minister in 1988.
