I get so many notices of events, actions and alerts that I've decided that a better way of distributing them is to put them out in a newsletter as and when I get them and also make them available online. I'll make anything I think is of interest/use to readers available here including new Websites that I get informed of, demos, petitions etc regardless of where they are on the planet. If you have a meeting, event or whatever that you think would be of interest to subscribers, email me the info and I'll include it editor@williambowles.info Also, if you forward this email to anybody, they can subscribe by clicking here. Stop the Silent Transfer Launching of the When: Monday, 23rd October 2006 at 19:00 pm 4 Shlomtzion Ha Malka Str. West Jerusalem In recent years, the Israeli government has begun the implementation of a rigid and cruel policy of denying entry visa to Palestinians and their spouses who carry foreign passports. Consequently, for whatever reasons, they are denied residency rights in the Occupied Territories. These people have been living on temporary tourist visas and are obliged to go abroad every three months to renew their visas. Those who cannot afford to travel abroad become illegal sojourners and live in perpetual anxiety, which confines them to their homes. But even those who go abroad have no guarantee that they will be allowed to return. Indeed, in recent years, the number denied re-entry has increased dramatically. The result is splitting of families, economic disaster, disruption of studies for children and students, and immense suffering in all walks of life. The number of those directly affected by this policy is estimated by B’tselem to be about 120,000 and together with their families the number of victims reaches hundreds of thousands. It is impossible to avoid drawing the conclusion that what we have before us is a sophisticated form of ethnic cleansing. Speakers: On behalf of the ICRR: Prof. Aharon Eviatar (Prof Emeritus, TAU) |
War with iran: a response Date: 18 October 2006 20:13:37 BDT Please sign the petition: Please post this graphic on websites: THANKS! ----- Original Message ----- From: Crawford Peace House crawfordpeacehouse@gmail.com War with Iran On October 3 2006 The Eisenhower strike group left its base in Norfolk, Virginia with a 6,500 deployment force. Navel Officers contacted Peace Groups to protest the possibility of a planed provoked war with Iran. Today the Strike Group is being joined by an armada of ships sailing to the Persian Gulf, the Gulf of Oman and to the Mediterranean. Military exercises starting October 31 will practice interdicting ships. This navel armada has forewarned the possibility of a attack on Iran and Syria by positioning of a strike force equal to proposed war scenarios A navel blockade would be considered by Iran to be an act of war. Iran is now on full military alert. The rumors and possibility of an October surprise and a war with Iran are not acceptable. On April 6 ,2002 almost 2,000 came to a rally In Crawford Texas to protest the secret plans of George Bush and Tony Blair to go to war in Iraq. The Crawford Peace House was born as a response to the coming of that illegal war. The war and occupation of Iraq still continues with no end in sight. With great sadness we are again asking for citizens to be ready to mobilize to stop another great madness. In the event of a Naval blockade or an attack on Iran The Crawford Peace House will call on all peace loving people to come to Crawford November 5, 2006 election weekend for a 1:00 rally and march to the Bush ranch. A press conference November 6th at the Peace House and more actions to correspond to Bush’s visit to Crawford to vote on Tuesday 7th Peace Johnny Wolf Online resources www.newyorker.com/fact/content/articles/060417fa_fact * MESSAGE CONTENT – Thanks for keeping messages on our list concentrated on the activities and concerns of the Crawford Peace House. Walk In Their Shoes CODEPINK Women for Peace October 18, 2006 Have you seen the devastating John Hopkins report revealing that over 655,000 Iraqis have died since our invasion (today.reuters.com/News/CrisesArticle.aspx?storyId=L11791889&WTmodLoc=IntNewsHome_C4_Crises-3) and the polls show that the overwhelming majority of Iraqis want us to leave (www.worldpublicopinion.org/pipa/articles/home_page/250.php?nid=&id=&pnt=250&lb=hmpg1)? Between now and November 7, those candidates who still support this war must see the consequence of their votes to go to war, to fund war, and ‘stay the course’. Shoes, like this pair representing the 3-year-old daughter of Hussein al Tarish, help people visualize unspeakable pain and suffering this war has inflicted on the Iraqi people. In the final weeks of the election season, let’s take shoes like these to the doorsteps of pro-war candidates—outside a fundraiser, a debate, their campaign headquarters or their homes. This is an easy yet powerful action you can do on your own or with a few friends to promote our Give Peace a Vote Campaign (www.givepeaceavote.org/) and let those running for office know that we refuse to support pro-war candidates. Just gather old shoes, tag them with the names of Iraqis who have died (see here for a list of names: www.iraqbodycount.net/names.php), make a signs such as: “Stay the Course? Give Peace a Vote”, “655,000 Iraqis Dead: Time to Change Course,” and “Walk in Their Shoes.” Spend an hour or two outside candidates headquarters, fundraiser, debate or home. And on election day, consider how powerful it would be to stand near your polling place with your shoe exhibit! If you want help calling the press for your action, here’s a sample press release (www.givepeaceavote.org/downloads/WalkintheirshoestemplatePR.doc). We also have sample letters to the editor linking the election and the occupation of Iraq, so please consider writing a letter to your local paper sometime between now and November 7 (www.democracyinaction.org/dia/organizationsORG/codepink/pickMedia.jsp?letter_KEY=596&t=GPV.dwt). While local groups are putting a solemn row of shoes at their candidates’ doorstep, we at CODEPINK National will be taking THOUSANDS OF PAIRS of shoes to the doorsteps of pro-war candidates in tight races in Connecticut, Virginia, Missouri and California. Want to help us create a really powerful visual that will impact voters in tight races? Please send a tax-deductible financial contribution (https://secure.democracyinaction.org/dia/organizations/codepink/shop/custom.jsp?donate_page_KEY=1894). If you, like us, feel anguish over the chaos our government has unleashed in Iraq and all the innocent lives lost, let’s walk together-in their shoes. Andrea, Anedra, Dana, Farida, Gael, Gayle, Jodie, Laura, Liz, Medea, Nancy, Patricia, Rae, Samantha, and Sonia P.S. Pledge to Give Peace a Vote (www.democracyinaction.org/dia/organizationsORG/codepink/petition.jsp?petition_KEY=295&t=GPV.dwt)and pass it on.
