Hearts in Exile…
January 1, 2010 – …I had to face my reality and come to terms with it. I cannot return to Iraq. I am a stranger here and will be a stranger there. Besides, I might get abducted and killed once I set foot…This is a real possibility, a very real one… There is a Law of NO RETURN written for a lot of the Iraqis in exile, for the thousands of us in Exile…most of us refugees are either Sunnis, Christians or some other minority…all of us fled because of our sects…Some of us have lost our homes to the militias and their families who are currently occupying them. We are in waiting…I am in waiting and I have a feeling I will be waiting for a long time…

Obama has announced the partition of Pakistan – Webster Tarpley
January 1, 2010 – A former NATO officer claims US Special Forces have conducted secret raids inside Pakistan’s border regions. The operations were conducted between 2003 and 2008, but only one was ever made public…He pointed out that “President Obama’s West point speech of December 2 is a thinly veiled declaration of war against Pakistan in the sense that it announces the intent of the US to promote the dismemberment, the partition of Pakistan along ethnic lines and in order to do that you have to create trouble on the ground.” “Ambassador Richard Holbrook, who is the US tsar for the region, was asked ‘Do you have troops in Pakistan?’ and he said ‘The US has intelligence personnel in Pakistan but not troops’. And I would ask – “What about the contractors, Mr Ambassador?” asked Tarpley…

Boy watches US forces shoot father in head
By Dave Markland
January 1, 2010 – Recent reports indicate that a new stage may have been reached in the war in Afghanistan. Secret operations of CIA and special forces appear to have stepped up their infamous night raids, which have induced fear in much of the local population. We saw in a blog post a few weeks ago that up to 15 civilians in Laghman were killed in a ground forces operation apparently carried out under NATO command. NATO itself, after initial denials, appeared to acknowledge civilian casualties, but was characteristically vague about it. Now, according to the article below, it seems that the attack-cum-massacre was carried out at night and, according to locals, perpetrated by US special forces on the ground…

Mousavi’s Statement #17 Regarding the Events of Bloody Ashura (Full text)
Mir Hossein Mousavi
January 1, 2010 – It was constantly told to me and [my] friends that if we don’t issue any statements, people would not take to the streets and would quit their protests and demands, and peace would return to the country. I, as one of those accompanying the great Green movement of the people, was not in favour of this idea and believed that things would not go back to normal unless the necessary reforms based on the clear principles of the constitution were carried out. For the commemoration of Ashura, despite several requests, neither Karoubi, Khatami, myself nor any other friend issued any statement. Yet, people spontaneously came to the scene and showed that the extensive social networks formed spontaneously during and after the election, would not wait for statements and announcements..
