Eva Bartlett, In Gaza
October 28, 2009 – The Canadian Parliamentary Coalition to Combat Antisemitism (CPCCA)and Canada’s Israel representatives are waging a propaganda and legal battle to silence the expanding number of people and organizations who support Palestinian rights or are critical of Israel for its illegal occupation, invasions and siege of Palestine. The CPCCA is joining the Conservative government, the B’nai Brith, and the Canadian Jewish Congress (CJC), in an ambitious plan to censor civil dialogue by deliberately confusing criticism of Israel and Zionism with anti-Semitism. In rejection and response, The Independent Jewish Voices of Canada wrote this petition…

Defend Canadian Free Speech from Israel’s representatives who would criminalize it
People concerned with human & civil rights
October 28, 2009 – The Independent Jewish Voices of Canada wrote this petition concerning the Canadian Parliamentary Coalition to Combat Antisemitism (CPCCA). The CPCCA is planning hearings and a report to further repress attempts to support Palestinian human rights or criticize Israel. We ask people to please pass this petition on to others… The Harper Government and the Bâ’nai Brith soundly denounced the UN Goldstone Report of war crimes committed by Israel and Hamas during the Gaza invasion this January. It was researched and authored by Judge Richard Goldstone, a Jewish South African who also investigated war crimes in the Balkans. Now, the CPCCA is attempting to provide political ammunition to further repress free speech in Canada if people support Palestinians or criticize Israel…

Stuck in the Middle…
Layla Anwar, An Arab Woman Blues
October 28, 2009 – …You’re probably wondering – how come Layla didn’t mention the black, bloody, Sunday’s blasts that left over 700 Iraqis dead and injured ? It’s already been covered…And it does take massive explosions to remind you of the “forgotten war”. And am still here…ain’t I ? No worries, I will never let you off the hook…as long as God gives me life. I will not cover the gory details…besides they hardly affect you. They did not affect you in 2003, nor in 2005, nor in 2007, so why should they affect you in 2009 ? As the demonstrating, very angry, Iraqis shouted in Baghdad yesterday : “ We have no water, but our blood is pouring in gallons…” But hey, you are beyond what people under occupations shout, you are beyond their tears and grief…beyond their tragedies and pain…you are beyond and above it all…

‘Fortress Kabul’ – The next step?
By James Bays
October 28, 2009 – …In the Afghan capital, the Taliban clearly has its supporters, sympathisers and informers; but each time they plan an attack, the weapons and the fighters need to be infiltrated into the city centre. This latest attack will lead to a major security review. Heavily protected foreign enclaves may be the result. The idea of “Fortess Kabul”, an Afghan “green zone”, has been predicted before. It may now be closer to becoming a reality. The Taliban clearly want to unnerve the international community. Many foreign workers will now, quite literally, not sleep at night…
