Ex-employees claim Blackwater pimped out young Iraqi girls
By David Edwards and Muriel Kane
Since the revelation earlier this week of allegations by two former employees of security firm Blackwater that its owner was complicit in murder in order to cover up the deliberate killing of Iraqi civilians, explosive charges have continued to emerge. Perhaps the most shocking of those charges — quoted by MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann on Thursday from the employees’ sworn declarations — is that Blackwater was guilty of using child prostitutes at its compound in Baghdad’s fortified Green Zone and that owner Erik Prince knew of this activity and did nothing to stop it…

Afghan Resistance Statement
The Afghans should not Boost up the Invaders’ Project with their Votes
Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan
The constant setbacks and defeats of the invading alliance under the leadership of USA in both military and other fields; their retreats; the historical victories of Mujahideen in Helmand and other parts of the country in recent days; the resistance of Mujahideen, all in all contributed to dealing a crushing blow at the military might, vanity and arrogance of America and Britain. They will not embark on extensive military operations as easily as they used to. The American and British public closely followed the developments on field. The authorities of these countries had assured them that they would certainly break the Taliban’s power and create a peaceful and conducive atmosphere for the conduct of the elections. They did not achieve this objective. Contrarily, they faced tremendous casualties in this short period of time which has no precedence in the whole year…

Books That Counter Our “Training” To Make War
John Pilger
These are extraordinary times. Flag-wrapped coffins of 18-year-old soldiers killed in a failed, illegal and vengeful invasion are paraded along a Wiltshire high street. Victory in Afghanistan is at hand, says the satirical Gordon Brown. On the BBC’s Newsnight, the heroic Afghan MP Malalai Joya, tries, in her limited English, to tell the British public that her people are being blown to bits in their name: 140 villagers, mostly children, in her own Farah Province. No parade for them. No names and faces for them. The suppression of the suffering of Britain’s and America’s colonial victims is an article of media faith, a tradition so ingrained that it requires no instructions…

Zuwiyya
Zeyad Kasim
There is little to no coverage of this, but these eight young men were the security guards of the Zuwiyya branch of al-Rafidain Bank at the Jadiriya district of Baghdad. The small bank is located just across the river from the Green Zone and a few hundred yards away from the residences of Hakim, Adil Abdul Mahdi and Badr Brigade (now members of the Presidential Brigade) checkpoints. They were tied up and killed execution-style by a group of officers who were members of Vice President Adil Abdul Mahdi’s security detail on their own turf in Jadiriya. The incident was carried out on July 28 after midnight. A huge portion of the stolen money ($4.5 million) was then located at the offices of al-’Adala (justice) newspaper (which, as you guessed, is owned by Abdul Mahdi). In fact it turns out that the two officers who were in charge of the heist were not arrested but have already fled Iraq (who helped them flee?). PM Maliki has stepped in to cover up for his partners in crime once more, and all public debate of the incident has been stifled…

Prison Toughens Palestinian Women
By Jon Elmer
In her office at the Bethlehem women’s counselling centre, Khawla Al-Azraq recounts her memories from Israeli prison as vividly as if they were yesterday: the routine physical and psychological abuse, the nightly room searches, the hunger strikes and other collective actions in protest against their conditions, and the intense study sessions with her fellow prisoners. “I still have a hard time with certain aspects – particularly the torture and the long periods in isolation. Prison is not a normal life. The psychological impacts affect how you see the world long after you are released,” she says. “And the problems that remain from prison affect your family, your community – every aspect of your life.”…

Tons of Imperial Fun: Hellfire Hillary Pours Oil on Somalia’s Fire
Chris Floyd
There is apparently no path blazed by George W. Bush that Barack Obama will not eagerly follow. Surges, assassinations, indefinite detention, defense of torture, senseless wars and rampant militarism — in just a few short months, we’ve seen it all. To this dismaying record of complicity and continuity, we can add an increasing direct involvement in the horrific, hydra-headed conflict in Somalia, whose latest round of fiery hell was instigated by the American-backed invasion of Somalia by Ethiopia in late 2006. Under Bush, U.S. forces were deeply and directly enmeshed in the murderous action, dropping bombs on fleeing refugees, “renditioning” other refugees to the tender mercies of Ethiopia’s notorious prisons, and even sending in death squads to clean up after missile strikes and bombings…

UN concerned over potential further evictions in East Jerusalem
UN News Centre
In the wake of the evictions of dozens of Palestinian refugees in East Jerusalem earlier this week, the United Nations today voiced concern that more families could be forced out of their homes by Israel, causing further humanitarian suffering. Two families, comprising 53 people registered with the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), were forced out by Israeli security forces last weekend from the Arab neighbourhood of Sheikh Jarrah, with Israeli settlers moving into their homes….

Breaking the Israeli water siege
International Solidarity Movement (ISM)
International human rights activists together with Israelis and Palestinians escorted a convoy of water tankers, breaking the Israeli water siege of the village Qarawat Bani Zaid and delivering water to residents. At 12 pm ISM activists and other Internationals set off from Al Manara, Ramallah, to join the water convoy. After departure, passing checkpoints and settlements, the convoy could, without further delay, cross the border into the Palestinian Authority controlled Qarawat Bani Zaid, arriving at 15.00 pm…

Iran dissidents: Behind confessions, prison ordeal
By SCHEHEREZADE FARAMARZI, AP
A prisoner forced to confess tries to speak with his eyes — to tell those watching that he’s admitting to crimes he never committed because he’s been broken by days alone in a cell and interrogators’ threats to his family and loved ones. And because it’s the only way to get free, said Ebrahim Nabavi, a popular Iranian satirist whose televised confession came after he spent more than three months in prison in 2000 for his written jabs at the ruling clerics…

Gaza’s Kite Runners
By Ramzy Baroud
When seen from a distance, kites in Gaza may look quite ordinary. But while Gazan children, in many respects, are just children, their kites are hardly ordinary. Often adorned by the red, black, green and white of the Palestinian flag, Gazan children’s kites are expressions of defiance, hope and the longing for freedom. This is hardly a cliché. People living under oppressive rules take every opportunity to express defiance, even through such symbolic ways…

Israel annexes Palestinian village near Jerusalem
Saed Bannoura
The Israeli Authorities annexed the Palestinian village of Beit Iksa by placing it on the map west of the Annexation Wall, and considered it part of Jerusalem. The decision means that the village would be isolated from the West Bank. The decision comes in contradiction with a decision issued by the Israeli government in 2006 in which it decided not to annex the village. Implementing the decision means that some 3000 Palestinians would be allowed to enter Israel without any permits, but would also be isolated from the West Bank…

ZIONISTS SMEAR CATHOLICS
Irish4Palestine
Today I was looking at news articles and came across several regarding the former Irish President Mary Robinson, the first woman President of Ireland and Champion of Women’s Rights internationally. Having been born in the North of Ireland, she has experienced first hand oppression, bigoty and racism. As such, she then went on to do human rights work within the United Nations and has been a friend to oppressed people like the Palestinians. President Obama is honouring her with the Medal of Freedom, America’s highest civilian honour. As you would expect, the Zionists in AIPAC are not happy about this and have begun to attack Obama, Mary Robinson and even the Catholic religion…

Afghan Attack Kills 3 U.K. Soldiers From NATO Force
By Gregory Viscusi
Three British soldiers serving with NATO were killed in Afghanistan when their patrol was targeted by a roadside bomb and small-arms fire, bringing the alliance’s death toll so far this month to 18. The service members died yesterday in the south of the country, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization said in a statement today. A spokeswoman at the U.K.’s Ministry of Defence said they were British. The alliance previously announced the killing of four U.S. service members yesterday in a roadside bombing in western Afghanistan…

Mounting popular opposition to the war in Afghanistan
Stefan Steinberg and Barry Grey
A series of recent polls have shown growing popular opposition in Europe to the US-NATO war in Afghanistan. One recent poll puts opposition in Germany to the presence of German troops in Afghanistan at 85 percent. The latest poll in France shows 55 percent opposed to the war and in favor of the immediate withdrawal of French soldiers. In Britain, according to the latest ComRes poll, more than half of the people (52 percent) want troops to be withdrawn straight away, while some 64 percent say British forces should be removed “as quickly as possible.”…

Eighty people were also wounded in Friday’s blasts in the Iraqi capital’s impoverished Shia district of Sadr City, police said. The worshippers were among hundreds of thousands of pilgrims who had flocked to Iraq’s holy city of Karbala a day earlier to mark the birth of Imam Mohammed al-Mehdi…

Once vaunted, Marwan Barghouthi is rarely mentioned at Fatah congress
Ma’an News
The name of Marwan Barghouthi, the Fatah leader jailed by Israel for his actions during the second Palestinian Intifada (uprising), is rarely heard the Fatah congress in Bethlehem, which entered its third day on Thursday. It was expected that the charismatic Barghouthi, once mentioned as a possible successor to President Mahmoud Abbas, would be the subject of much discussion in the proceedings. Instead, when Barghouthi released a lengthy statement to Palestinian newspapers this morning, the document was not even circulated in the conference hall in the Terra Sancta school in Bethlehem, down the street from the Church of the Nativity…

August 7, 2009: 61 Iraqis Killed, 211 Wounded
Margaret Griffis
Over three million Shi’ite pilgrims peacefully visited Karbala to observe the birthday of the 12th Imam, a ninth century religious leader. An increase in security there may have spared those pilgrims in Karbala, but attacks targeting Shi’ites killed dozens across central and northern Iraq. Overall, at least 61 Iraqis were killed and 211 more were wounded throughout the country. Also, an Iranian passport was discovered next to a burnt corpse…
