Depleted Uranium Ammunition in Afghan War: New Evidence
German Bundeswehr manual challenges US and UK denials over depleted uranium in Afghanistan
International Coalition to Ban Uranium Weapons
A military manual that was handed over to German campaigners has reignited allegations that the US used DU ammunition in Afghanistan. If true, it runs counter to repeated assurances given by the US military that no DU was used. The manual, a war-fighting guide for Bundeswehrcontigents in Afghanistan is marked classified and for official NATO use only. It was written by the Bundeswehr’s Centre for Communication and published in late 2005. Campaigners have long suspected that the US military has not been entirely candid over the issue and papers have emerged showing that DU munitions were transported to Afghanistan…

PANETTA SEEKS TO WHITEWASH CIA CRIMES
By Sherwood Ross
CIA Director Leon Panetta’s article titled “It’s Time To Move On” published in the August 4th Miami Herald is a stunning disservice to the principles of justice. It not only calls for whitewashing the Agency’s past horrific crimes, which have included torture and murder, but openly advocates the use of force and violence. Panetta writes, “the focus on the past, especially in Congress, threatens to distract the CIA from its crucial core missions: intelligence collection, analysis and covert action.” In CIA lingo, “covert action” has always meant dirty tricks, from blackmailing to assassinating foreign leaders, and from pouring bribe money to influence elections to overthrowing governments. Covert action is not your church Tuesday night bingo party. And these criminal acts are invariably performed in sneaky secret because if the American people learned of them they would never tolerate the spy agency’s cruelty and tax waste. Besides, some CIA crimes could make you puke..

A further step toward a police state
Obama seeks to institutionalize indefinite detention
Tom Eley
Press reports have revealed that the Obama administration is considering the creation of a prison and court complex on US soil to process and hold current and future terrorist suspects. It would include a facility to indefinitely detain people held without trial or any other constitutionally mandated due process rights. The reports underscore the profoundly antidemocratic agenda of the Obama administration, which is not only carrying on the Bush administration’s sweeping and quasi-dictatorial assertions of executive authority, but is seeking to institutionalize them….

By Daily Mail Reporter

The U.S. military said it had killed four insurgents on motorcycles in that area and could not confirm any civilian fatalities. Bingo! U.S. donors fund illegal Jewish settlements
By EMILY DISCHE-BECKER
…Only days prior to the August 2nd land grab in East Jerusalem that was decried by the US administration, it was widely reported in the English-language press that two American magnates were funding the seizures of Arab homes in Jerusalem, including in Sheikh Jarrah. On July 27, Bloomberg reported that Renco Group Inc. founder Ira Rennert and bingo entrepreneur Irving Moskowitz were among U.S. donors “who have given $25.4 million in five years to build Jewish homes in Arab parts of Jerusalem — the same areas that President Barack Obama is pressing Israel to stop such construction.” In 1985, Irving Moskowitz had purchased The Shepherd Hotel where Israel was now planning construction despite protests from the US…

Unfairness is better than mercy !!!!!!!!!!
Sunshine, Days of My Life
I’ve talked a lot about the changes that happened in our life since war began, none of them shows the democracy and freedom.. Before war, there weren’t any differences between Shiites and Sunnis, actually I didn’t even know to which cast do I belong to! But unfortunately our government is trying to make huge differences between us, so the two casts start to feel jealous, hate and hurts each other but Shiites and Sunnis have been living together for thousands of years and even married each other!!!… All I want to say is Saddam’s unfairness is better than your mercy….

Taking over Jerusalem
Evictions in Sheikh Jarrah and other Palestinian areas are part of a bid to turn East Jerusalem into a unified Jewish Jerusalem
Matt Kennard
A couple of months ago I spent a fortnight in Palestine with the International Solidarity Movement – activists who help Palestinians non-violently resist Israeli oppression. The most pressing of many issues during my stay was the attempts by an Israeli settler company, Nahalat Shimon, backed by the Israeli courts, to cleanse East Jerusalem of its Arab population, focusing its efforts at that time on the neighbourhood of Sheikh Jarrah. I spent a week sleeping on a floor in the house of the Hanoun family – a husband and wife and their three children…

IRAQ: Iraqi refugees face urban challenges
IRIN news
Iraqi refugees in Syria, Jordan and Lebanon may be missing out on vital assistance because of problems tracing them in the cities, says the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) in a report, Surviving in the City. “The report notes the challenges UNHCR faces in dealing with the refugees who settled in the cities of Damascus and Aleppo in Syria, Amman in Jordan and Beirut in Lebanon.” Most of the refugees fled after 2006 when sectarian violence broke out in Iraq, and settled in towns and cities – including places not covered by the report…

Real Health Care Reform – Universal Single-Payer
Stephen Lendman
Organizations like Physicians for a National Health Program want Americans to have the same system in place in all other Western countries and elsewhere, including Venezuela, South Korea, Japan, Cuba, Brazil, Saudi Arabia, Costa Rica, Singapore, Taiwan, and Thailand. But not in America – the only industrialized country without it despite spending more than double per capita than the other 30 OECD countries and delivering less for it…

Destroying ourselves with a little help from the US
Shireen M Mazari
The chaos that is spreading within the country is frightening and a result of bad or lack of governance on the one hand and US intrusions and questionable activities in Pakistan on the other… With increasing information about the dangerous US presence in Pakistan, it is not difficult to connect the dots also – with our nuclear assets, the institution of the military and the remaining strands of stability being the targets. Unless someone can stop the rot, it is only a matter of time before the US forces cross over physically on the ground from across Afghanistan. They may not get the triggers they plan on seizing but they can trigger a push towards total anarchy. Our rulers are certainly in self-destruct mode aided and abetted by the US…

Iraqis bar food for Iranian exiles-Swiss activists
By Robert Evans, Reuterts
Iraqi authorities are blocking supplies of food and water going into a camp east of Baghdad where Iranian exiles have been living for over 20 years, Swiss- based human rights activists said on Wednesday. The activists, including senior U.N. expert Jean Ziegler, said they feared a repetition of what they called a brutal attack on the camp by Iraqi special forces on July 28 when at least 7 residents died and many others were injured. “Preventing people getting food is a gross violation of international law … This has been going on for 10 days. It is totally scandalous,” Ziegler, a top adviser to the U.N. Human Rights Council, told a news conference…

HEALTH-AFGHANISTAN: Private Care – Designed to Make Money
By Lal Aqa Sherin
Forty five-year-old Rahima thought she was going to die. Her family had checked her into Shenuzada, a private hospital in Makroyan in the Afghan capital, for an operation on her abdomen. “Our mother was in a coma when we brought her there,” says her son Janshid, who sells flowers in Kabul. But it wasn’t the abdominal sickness that almost killed Rahima. It was the operation at Shenuzada. “During the operation” says Janshid, “bacteria infected the wound. Her left leg is now paralysed and may have to be amputated. She needs a great deal of treatment.” “My sister can’t walk,” says Rahima’s brother, Muhammad Ajamal Baraki. “She just lies in bed. Doctors say that her leg should be amputated, or else her life will be in danger.” Rahima is now back home with her children in a two-storey building in the Kart-e-Parwan section of Kabul. She spends her days lying in a single bed on the second floor of the house. Her only activity is watching television. Her only respite is talking with her children…

Traumatised Children Struggle to Rise Again
By Mel Frykberg
Tens of thousands of children in Gaza are still suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) following Israel’s three-week bombing December- January. Several crisis counselling teams run by international organisations and NGOs have been carrying out intervention programmes aimed at helping Gaza’s most vulnerable put the pieces of their lives back together. But these groups warn that while there has been some improvement in the collective psyche of Gaza’s children, the long-term effects of war are now beginning to show, and unless the rights of Gazans are respected, the next generation’s future will be hard to predict…

HRW Teaches Israel how to attack Palestinian civilians
Mary Rizzo, Palestine Think Tank
Human Rights Watch offers suggestions to Israel for more effective attacks on Palestinian civilians: “More specific warnings that describe the target area and the timing of the attack would be a positive step towards ensuring they meet the requirement to be effective,” said Sarah Leah Whitson, Middle East and North Africa director at Human Rights Watch. “Unfortunately, during the January conflict in Gaza, many warnings failed that test.”…

Legitimising Lieberman
Israel’s aggressively far-right foreign minister epitomises deeply ingrained trends – what was once outlawed is now acceptable
Antony Lerman
Avigdor Lieberman is no aberration in Israel’s polity. His aggressive rightwing Zionist rhetoric, racist demonisation of Palestinians and Arab-Israelis, shameless political populism and the tide of corruption allegations now close to engulfing him are all depressingly and dangerously familiar features of a broken system. The immigrant from Moldova has brilliantly exploited and contributed to the fracturing of politics in the state – but anyone who thinks his removal from the governmental scene will signal some sea change is sadly mistaken. The trends Lieberman represents and epitomises are deeply ingrained. Netanyahu is midwife and child of them, too…

Right-wing MK calls for arresting Fateh officials
Saed Bannoura – IMEMC
Michael Ben-Ari, right-wing member of Knesset, member of the National Union Party, demanded the Israeli Attorney-general, Menahim Mazuz, to issue ‘arrest warrants’ against Fateh officials and members participating in the Sixth Fateh general conference in Bethlehem. In a statement to the Jerusalem Post, Ben-Ari said that Israel should not grant immunity to what he described as fugitives, and stressed that the Israeli army must arrest Zakariyya Zobeidy, former Jenin leader of the Al Aqsa Brigades of Fateh Movement…
