A Waiting Wretchedness..
Layla Anwar, An Arab Woman Blues
Unfortunate in your circumstances ? Anguished ? Agonizing ? Victimized ? Forgotten ? Wretched creature. A surplus on this earth. There is no place for you. Wretchedness. The forgotten people. Left in some corner of this world. Voices unheard. Talking in the dark. In the Nothingness. In the Void. Smiling at strangers, all alone, in recluse…awaiting miracles. The miracle of Death or the miracle of some Divine Intervention. It all becomes the same. It’s the waiting in secret anticipation, in a secret hidden hope, somewhere lodged inside of you, that keeps you going…

Israel’s Discriminatory Land Policies
by Stephen Lendman
Israel’s late 1947 -1948 “War of Independence” took six months to create a new Jewish state, excluding Arabs to the greatest extent possible. To accomplish it, widespread war crimes and atrocities were committed as about 800,000 people were brutally uprooted, ethnically cleansed, or murdered in cold blood. In addition, 531 villages and 11 urban neighborhoods in Tel-Aviv, Haifa, Jerusalem and other cities were destroyed and erased except in the collective memories of their inhabitants and descendants who’ll always consider them their rightful homes. Shortly after, laws were passed to legitimize the seizure and exclusive Jewish use of Palestinian land…

Afghan Resistance Statement
Announcement by the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan regarding the American process of elections to mislead the Afghans
Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan
…Four years ago when Karzai assumed power as a result of self-same process what did he do to materialize the aspirations of the Afghans? During the reign of this so-called president, the Americans did all in their power against the Afghans but what he did to prevent these atrocities? The merciless bombardment of civilians, lack of security, immorality, spread of foreign culture, increase in the number of foreign troops, collective killings of defenceless prisoners in Pulle-Charkhi prison all these are the products of this dark reign. In the economic field, as a symbol of their service to the country, the Afghans were forced to sell their dear children for food items and many countrymen were compelled to eat grass…

Legal theft
Saleh Al-Naami
The Al-Masri family living in the Old City of Jerusalem is on edge after the municipal council, headed by Jewish extremist Nir Barakat, informed them that their house will be destroyed within the month. This decision is justified by the fact that the house was built without a permit. This family, like so many other Palestinian families, was forced to build illegally because the municipality does not grant Palestinians building permits. The family claims, however, that the municipality has no real interest in upholding the laws concerning building permits, but rather the real reason for this decision is that the Jewish extremist group “Ateret Cohanim” wants to build a new Jewish settlement…

EXCLUSIVE: John Walker Lindh’s Parents Discuss Their Son’s Story, from Joining the US-Backed Taliban Army to Surviving a Northern Alliance Massacre, to His Abuse at the Hands of US Forces
Democracy Now!
In their first extended interview, the parents of John Walker Lindh, Marilyn Walker and Frank Lindh, join us for the hour to tell their son’s story. He was born in Washington, DC in 1981. At the age of sixteen, he converted to Islam. In 1999, Lindh left the United States for Yemen to study Arabic and the Koran. He later traveled to Pakistan and then to Afghanistan, before 9/11, where he received military training from the US-backed, Taliban-run Afghan Army to fight against the Northern Alliance in Afghanistan’s civil war. He was captured in late 2001, found emaciated and wounded, one of the few to survive a massacre by the Northern Alliance. To his parents’ relief, he was handed to US forces, but they brutalized him, as well. Donald Rumsfeld had ordered them to “take the gloves off.” He was designated Detainee 001 in the war on terror. When he returned to the United States in January 2002, he was being held as a prisoner accused of conspiring to kill Americans. As part of a plea deal, Lindh pleaded guilty to serving in the Taliban army and carrying weapons and was given a twenty-year sentence…

Refugees accuse US military of executing gay Iraqi civilians
Jessica Geen
Two gay Iraqi refugees sparked astonishment at a LGBT meeting in Lebanon when they accused US soldiers of committing atrocities against gay Iraqi civilians. An audience at the Human Rights Campaign headquarters last Friday was shown graphic images of beheaded corpses and photographs which apparently depicted US soldiers preparing to execute gays. One of the men, who used the name Hussam, said US soldiers displayed signs such as ‘F**k Off Fags’ outside their barracks. Hussam presented the shocked audience with a photograph of a US soldier standing in front of a small group of chained naked men…

ISRAEL vs PALESTINE The Difference
Irish4Palestine
Muslim shops in Glasgow, Scotland have been targetted with threats, petrol bombs and arson attacks. Que the silence and lack of outrage…Outside of Israel, Zionist spend the vast majority of their time either attempting to game the system in favour of Israel, or worse, trying to pass laws and legislation that restrict any criticizm of Israel. They forever play the “never ending victim card” and their well organised and well funded groups rally to the call to arms. So, here’s my question today; Where’s the outrage for this racist attack?…

The Hell of War Comes Home: Newspaper Series Documents Murder, Suicide, Kidnappings by Iraq Vets
Democracy Now!
A startling two-part series published in the Gazette newspaper of Colorado Springs titled “Casualties of War” examines a part of war seldom discussed by the media or government officials: the difficulty of returning to civilian life after being trained to be a killer. The story focuses on a single battalion based at Fort Carson in Colorado Springs, the 2nd Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment. Soldiers from the brigade have have been involved in brawls, beatings, rapes, drunk driving, drug deals, domestic violence, shootings, stabbings, kidnapping and suicides. The Army unit’s murder rate is 114 times the rate for Colorado Springs. We speak with the reporter who broke the story and get the Army’s response…

Iraq says 11 dead in Iran camp as Amnesty seeks probe
By Ali Al-Tuwaijri (AFP)
Eleven residents of a camp housing Iran’s main exiled opposition movement have died since Iraqi forces stormed the site, a local Iraqi security official said on Thursday. The toll was revealed as Amnesty International called for a probe into “apparent excessive use of force” by Iraqi forces when they took over Camp Ashraf, home to 3,500 People’s Mujahedeen members and their families…

United for Freedom and Universal Justice
By Omar Barghouti and Sid Shniad
For several decades, the world has watched in frustration as the crisis in Israel and the occupied Palestinian territory deepened. Confused by the details of what is alleged to be a highly complicated situation and loathe to be attacked for criticizing Israel lest they be vilified as anti-Semites, people who would otherwise be expected to play an active role in striving for an end to Israel’s occupation, colonization and system of discrimination in accordance with international law have chosen to focus their attention elsewhere. In recent years, however, this state of affairs has begun to change dramatically as a growing number of activists and intellectuals ? including members of the Jewish communities in the West, who could once be counted upon by Israel to be either unquestioning supporters or silent in their acquiescence to its actions ? have begun to find their voice on this matter…

UN: Civilian deaths up 24 percent in Afghanistan
By ROBERT H. REID (AP)
Civilian deaths in the escalating Afghan war soared by 24 percent during the first half of 2009 compared with the same period last year, the United Nations said Friday, blaming most of the casualties on Taliban attacks launched with little regard for civilian lives. The U.N. Assistance Mission to Afghanistan also pointed to stepped-up military operations by the United States and its allies, especially airstrikes, for the steady increase in Afghan civilian casualties over the past two years…

As Judge Orders Release Of Tortured Guantánamo Prisoner, Government Refuses To Concede Defeat
ANDY WORTHINGTON
On Thursday, in a long-anticipated ruling (PDF), Judge Ellen Segan Huvelle granted the habeas corpus petition of Mohamed Jawad, an Afghan teenager seized after a grenade attack on a jeep containing two US soldiers and an Afghan translator in December 2002, and ordered the government to transfer him to the custody of the Afghan authorities, who have already stated that he will be released on arrival. Even if the government accepts Judge Huvelle’s ruling, Jawad will not be released immediately, because, under the terms of legislation recently forced on the government by Congress, the administration will have to provide lawmakers with “an assessment of any risk to the national security” posed by Jawad before he can be freed, which, it said, would take 22 days…

British Foreign Secretary: Clinton threatened to cut-off intelligence-sharing if torture evidence is disclosed
Glenn Greenwald
I’ve written several times before about the amazing quest of Binyam Mohamed — a British resident released from Guantanamo in February, 2009 after seven years in captivity — to compel public disclosure of information in the possession of the British Government proving he was tortured while in U.S. custody. At the center of Mohamed’s efforts lie the claims of high British government officials that the Obama administration has repeatedly threatened to cut off intelligence-sharing programs with the U.K. if the British High Court discloses information which British intelligence officials learned from the CIA about how Mohamed was tortured. New statements from the British Foreign Secretary yesterday — claiming that Hillary Clinton personally re-iterated those threats in a May meeting — highlight how extreme is this joint American/British effort to cover-up proof of Mohamed’s torture…

Nine families receive demolition warnings south of Nablus
Ma’an News
Israeli troops handed stop work orders, locally known as demolition warnings, to nine Palestinians from Yatma village south of Nablus. The orders gave residents 30 days to evacuate the areas where the homes are being built. Local expert on home demolitions Ghassan Doughlus said troops coming from the nearby settlement of Rechelim overran the village Thursday night. Fatah: Don’t allow Dayton to control your convention
By Khalid Amayreh in the West Bank
…Fatah should devote itself to ending the rift with Hamas as soon as possible mainly by purging its ranks of Israel’s agents, and, sadly, they are many. Fatah should realize that it alone can’t attain the goals of liberation and independence. This is why one of the central goals of the Fatah convention should be to mend relations with Hamas and restore Palestinian national unity…In the final analysis, the real contradiction is between us, the Palestinian people, and Israel , the Nazi-like occupier of our country, not among ourselves. This is what every Palestinian, including every member of Fatah, ought to understand…

Video: Israel defends Gaza war conduct
Aljazeera.net
Israel has said it will investigate more than a hundred complaints of misconduct by its military during the Gaza war. But Al Jazeera’s Sherine Tadros, who was in Gaza during the war, said a new government report was merely trying to absolve Israel of responsibility for its actions and falls far short of what is needed…

Bombs kill at least 28 near Baghdad mosques
By Muhanad Mohammed and Waleed Ibrahim
Six bombs struck Shi’ite mosques across Baghdad on Friday, police said, killing at least 28 people and angering Iraqis who blamed local forces now taking over from U.S. soldiers for failing to protect them. The blasts, which wounded at least 130 people and appeared to target Shi’ite Muslims taking part in Friday prayers, were a reminder of militants’ persistent capabilities in Iraq despite the sharp drop in violence over the last 18 months. In the worst attack, a car bomb struck people praying in the street outside a crowded mosque in northern Baghdad’s Shaab district, killing at least 23 people and wounding 107…

ACLU: Obama Administration Must Abandon Force-Feeding at Gitmo
By Nahal Zamani
The medical professionals worked to strap the detainee “into a chair, Velcro his head to a metal restraint, then tether a tube into the man’s stomach through his nose to pump in liquid nourishment twice a day.” After the Miami Herald wrote about the 30 hunger striking detainees in the Guantánamo Bay detention camps in January, we were concerned. We wrote an urgent letter to Defense Secretary Robert Gates to bring his attention to the cruel, inhuman, degrading and unlawful treatment of the 30 hunger striking detainees. In that letter, we pointed out that hunger strikes were indications of a larger problem concerning the conditions of confinement at the detention camp. A week later, Amnesty International, Human Rights First and Human Rights Watch joined us in writing to President Obama requesting full access to the detention facility at Guantánamo to independently examine and report on conditions of confinement. We still have not received an answer to our request…

US: Meshaal has way to go after Hamas leader says open for peace
DPA
The United States said Khaled Meshaal must make more concessions before the two sides can talk, after the Hamas leader on Friday offered his terms for the militant group to help the US settle the Arab-Israeli conflict. Meshaal, in an interview from Hamas’ Damascus headquarters that was published in The Wall Street Journal, said Hamas could accept a Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders, if Israel conceded the right of return of Palestinian refugees and a Palestinian capital in East Jerusalem…

Ma’an News
