Agent Orange Causes Media Blindness
Dave Lindorff
Agent Orange, the herbicide used as a weapon by US military forces in Vietnam for nearly a decade to defoliate vast stretches of inhabited forest and jungle in an effort to deprive the Viet Cong and North Vietnamese forces of both cover and a supportive populace, has long been known to have caused a large number of serious and debilitating diseases, many of them passed on to children of those exposed. But now it also appears to cause a peculiar blindness among American journalists. This is demonstrably the case at the New York Times, where a report in Saturday’s edition on new Agent Orange links being found to Parkinson’s Disease and ischemic heart disease noted that it could lead to many more Vietnam War Era veterans being eligible for disability benefits and treatment, but completely failed to mention the significance of the discovery for the millions of Vietnamese who were also exposed to the chemical—and for their descendants…

Balloons representing the nearly 350 minors being kept in Israeli prisons were released during a demonstration in Ramallah on Tuesday. Each carried the name of a current or former child prisoner detained by Israeli forces. The 500 green, red, black and white balloons were released from the Al-Manara circle in the center of Ramallah in a protest organized by the families of prisoners. Spiritual Head of Israel’s Ultra-Orthodox Shas Party Rabbi Ovadia Describes U.S. President as “a Slave” Ruling the World
By Cherifa Sirry
…Rabbi Ovadia Yosef , spiritual head of Israel’s ultra-Orthodox Shas party which forms part of Israel’s ruling coalition, criticized US president Barack Obama on Saturday describing him as “a slave” who rules the world and who wants to control Israeli policy when it comes to building in occupied Jerusalem. In his weekly sermon, Yosef protested that “American insidiousness tells us to build here and not to build there as though we were slaves working for them” then he adds that “We live in a time when slaves are governing us and are trying to control us” refusing the US administration request to stop illegal settlement building on Palestinian occupied territories…

The UN Giving Shit to Palestinians for over Sixty Years
Kawther Salam
Sorry to everybody for these impolite words about the UNRWA, I could not find other words to describe the situation, and things should be called by their name. Sorry also for showing these photos of dirty toilets unfit for human use, of urine, dirt and the polluted 1aenvironment and unhealthy situation which is experienced by all Palestinians who reside in the refugee camps run by the UNRWA in Palestine and in the Diaspora, as well as by all those who have received and still receive their education and medical services at the UN schools and clinics during the last 62 years under the Zionist occupation and the 60 years of UNRWA establishment…

Declassified Docs Reveal Military Operative Spied on WA Peace Groups, Activist Friends Stunned
Democracy Now!
Newly declassified documents reveal that an active member of Students for a Democratic Society and Port Militarization Resistance in Washington state was actually an informant for the US military. The man everyone knew as “John Jacob” was in fact John Towery, a member of the Force Protection Service at Fort Lewis. The military’s role in the spying raises questions about possibly illegal activity. The Posse Comitatus law bars the use of the armed forces for law enforcement inside the United States. The Fort Lewis military base denied our request for an interview. But in a statement to Democracy Now, the base’s Public Affairs office publicly acknowledged for the first time that Towery is a military operative. “This could be one of the key revelations of this era,” said Eileen Clancy, who has closely tracked government spying on activist organizations…

Ditches and walls tell how vulnerable Iraq has become
Azzaman
The Iraqi government seems to be following U.S. suit in building walls, ditches and moats to separate Iraqis from each other and the country from the rest of the world. The Interior Ministry has revealed that it has completed 90% of a 170-km long ditch that separates the restive Province of Nineveh from Syria. Ahmad Khafaji, an Interior Ministry Undersecretary, said there was no way to control Nineveh’s borders with Syria other than digging the ditch…

International Movements Breaking the Siege on Gaza
by Suzanne Morrison
Since June 2007 the Israeli government has imposed almost complete closure over the Gaza Strip. The siege prevents nearly all movement of people or goods to and from the coastal region with only minimal amounts of humanitarian provisions inconsistently allowed in. With the exception of a small amount of carnations allowed out earlier this year, there has been a virtual ban on all exports from Gaza since 2007. [1] A quick socio-economic glimpse of Gaza includes agricultural losses totaling US $30 million and more than 40,000 jobs for the 2007/2008 season, the suspension of 98% of industrial operations, and more than 80% of Gaza’s population is now dependent on humanitarian aid from international aid providing agencies…

Five Years After ICJ Ruling, Israel Expands Its Illegal Wall Onto More Palestinian Land
Ben White
FIVE YEARS ago this July, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague handed down its advisory opinion on Israel’s separation wall in the occupied Palestinian territories (see p. 32). Both the Israeli government and the Palestinians had been preparing for the decision since December 2003, when the U.N. General Assembly passed a resolution requesting an ICJ advisory opinion. On July 9, 2004, the ICJ ruled 14-1 that the wall was illegal in its entirety, that it should be pulled down immediately, and that compensation should be paid to those already affected. The judges also decided 13-2 that signatories to the Geneva Convention were obliged to enforce “compliance by Israel with international humanitarian law.” Less than two weeks later, the U.N. General Assembly passed a resolution 150-6 supporting the ICJ’s call to dismantle the wall…

Principlist faction gives Ahmadinejad ultimatum
PressTV
A powerful Principlist faction has warned the Iranian President against acting ‘contrary to the will of the people’ and ‘the call of religious leaders’. The Islamic Engineers Society said in a Tuesday letter to Mahmoud Ahmadinejad that he had ‘acted against his own interests’ by appointing Esfandyar Rahim-Masha’i as head of the presidential office…The letter warned that Ahmadinejad’s inattention to the advice of the Leader and the country’s religious leaders would have dire consequences and ‘ultimately lead to the formation of a deviant sect’. The Islamic Engineers Society asked Ahmadinejad to contemplate what happened to former Iranian prime minister Mohammad Mosaddeq and former president Abolhassan Banisadr ‘whose opposition to the country’s religious leaders’ ultimately led to their overthrow…

Iraqi Forces Attack MEK Camp North of Baghdad
Jason Ditz
Iraqi forces launched an attack on Camp Ashraf, belonging to the Iranian militant group the Mujahideen-e Khalq (MEK) sparking clashes with the exiles in the camp. The Iraqi government denied that the troops used any violence during the raid, and Defense Ministry official Maj. Gen. Mohammad al-Askari said that since the incident occurred on sovereign Iraqi territory, nothing they did could constitute “storming of the area.” Yet videos released by the camp’s inhabitants told a different story, showing the forces beating people with batons. The MEK says that 300 people were wounded and at least four killed in the clashes. They claim US forces witnessed the entire event but did not intervene…

Iran ‘releases 140 demonstrators’
Aljazeera.net
Iranian authorities have released 140 people detained during a crackdown on protesters following last month’s disputed presidential election. The detainees were freed on Tuesday during a visit to the Evin prison in the capital, Tehran, by a parliamentary committee investigating prisoners’ conditions. The protesters were among at least 500 people believed to have been arrested during demonstrations that erupted after the June 12 vote… The move on Tuesday followed an order from Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran’s supreme leader, to close a second detention centre where opposition protesters were detained. Alireza Ronaghi, Al Jazeera’s correspondent in Tehran, said the parliamentary committee was initially motivated to launch its investigation after reports of mistreatment and abuse of the prisoners. “But what appears to have been the main reason for the investigation was the death of the son of a highly respected conservative politician,” he said. “Mohsen Rouhalamini, who was arrested on July 9, was said to be killed in prison. Authorities said he had died from meningitis, but there were reports that his teeth were smashed…

Martial Law and the Militarization of Public Health: The Worldwide H1N1 Flu Vaccination Program
by Michel Chossudovsky
…There is ample evidence, documented in numerous reports, that the WHO’s level 6 pandemic alert is based on fabricated evidence and a manipulation of the figures on mortality and morbidity resulting from the N1H1 swine flu. The data initially used to justify the WHO’s Worldwide level 5 alert in April 2009 was extremely scanty. The WHO asserted without evidence that a “global outbreak of the disease is imminent”. It distorted Mexico’s mortality data pertaining to the swine flu pandemic. According to the WHO Director General Dr. Margaret Chan in her official April 29 statement: “So far, 176 people have been killed in Mexico”. From what? Where does she get these numbers? 159 died from influenza out of which only seven deaths, corroborated by lab analysis, resulted from the H1N1 swine flu strain, according to the Mexican Ministry of Health…
