Today in Solidarity We’re All Palestinians: History of Israeli Terror Killings
Gaza Aggression Timeline
Stephen Lendman
World outrage continues over Israeli war crimes and Washington’s complicity. Gazans are now immortalized. Hamas is more popular than ever and remains resolute despite everything the IDF threw against it. Democrats and Republicans share equal guilt. They fund Israeli state terror, are partnered in its aggression, and have collaboratively planned, supported, and/or agreed to it for the past 41 years. Continuity under Obama is assured. The current Gaza carnage is the worst since 1967. In spite of its “unilateral” ceasefire, sporadic Israeli attacks continue. The IDF merely redeployed. Gaza remains under siege, and human suffering is overwhelming and unrelieved…

Lessons of Gaza: Apocalypse No! Part 8
Juan Santos
It can no longer be hidden. What is happening in Gaza is, transparently, ethnic cleansing – genocide. That genocide has been ongoing for sixty years, sometimes in intense, rapid, and explosive junctures, sometimes more slowly, routinely – but always, it has been executed methodically. To see clearly the historical and cultural trajectories toward genocide in Palestine or elsewhere, one has only to map the intersection of the stated intentions of the perpetrators and their actions over time – or experience a sudden revelation or flash of deep insight…

Time for Trial
Elna Sondergaard
The brutal and indiscriminate Israeli attacks on the Palestinian population in Gaza during the last weeks have entailed numerous violations of basic norms of international law, such as the principles of proportionality and distinction (between civilians and combatants; and between civilian and military targets). Military acts such as intentionally targeting schools and other civilian facilities are considered violations of international humanitarian law in relation to which the state of Israel bears responsibility – but they also constitute serious crimes under international law (e.g., war crimes and eventually crimes against humanity) in relation to which individuals should stand trial…

Statistics: Gaza economic losses estimated at 1.9 billion dollars
Palestinian Information Center
Dr. Loai Shabana, the head of the Palestinian central bureau of statistics, said Monday that the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip caused an economic damage estimated at more than one billion and nine hundred million dollars. In a report, Dr. Shabana underlined that the number of buildings and facilities according to the census conducted by the bureau in 2007 were 147,437 and the preliminary estimates indicated that the three-week Israeli aggression led to the complete and partial destruction of 14% of this infrastructure…

Israel Recruits Army Of Bloggers To Troll Anti-War Websites
Paul Joseph Watson, Prison Planet
Israel has announced that it is setting up a network of bloggers to combat websites deemed “problematic” by the Zionist state, presumably to propagandize about the necessity of killing babies and infants in the name of self-defense. Israel’s global reputation for being the new Nazis was already firmly established, but the ceaseless and indiscriminate bombing of Gaza, labeled a war crime by international observers, has hardened opinion against the country and this has manifested itself nowhere more than the world wide web. Israel’s response will be to flood the Internet with PR agents who will attempt to create a phony consensus that the ZIonist state’s barbarian actions are justifiable. According to a report in Haaretz, the Immigrant Absorption Ministry is setting up “an army of bloggers” who will “represent” Israel on “anti-Zionist blogs” in English, French, Spanish and German…

PFLP: Our position on the “ceasefire,” “calm” and the weapons of the resistance
Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine
The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine reaffirmed on January 18, 2009 its position on the so-called “ceasefire,” stating that the PFLP regards with the utmost respect the decision of our brothers and sisters in the resistance of declaring a one-week ceasefire with the enemy. As we share in the declaration of victory with all of our people today, we want to reaffirm our rejection of any ceasefire and the politics of the so-called “calm”. We have continually opposed the politics of “calm,” because it presents an opportunity and yet another false justification for Israel to attack our people and increases the pressure on the resistance from all of the forces in the enemy camp – not only Israel’s military assaults, but also the political pressure and attacks from Arab regimes, the European Union, the United States and the so-called “Quartet.” The politics of “calm” becomes a trap for the resistance that we should always seek to avoid, since occupation itself is an act of aggression…

Amnesty International: Israel’s use of white phosphorus against Gaza civilians “clear and undeniable”
Amnesty International
Amnesty International delegates visiting the Gaza Strip found indisputable evidence of widespread use of white phosphorus in densely populated residential areas in Gaza City and in the north. “Yesterday, we saw streets and alleyways littered with evidence of the use of white phosphorus, including still burning wedges and the remnants of the shells and canisters fired by the Israeli army,” said Christopher Cobb-Smith, a weapons expert who is in Gaza as part of a four-person Amnesty International fact-finding team…

After the army killed her family, a wounded child spends two days in an abandoned home
Maan News Agency – Translated by Saed Bannoura – IMEMC
Amira, is a Palestinian child who fled her home after the army shelled it and took shelter in a nearby home bleeding and scared for two days without food and without anyone who can take care of her wounds. She was hiding in this empty home, as its owners had to leave it due to the Israeli shelling. She wrapped herself with some sheets and laid on a bed in the ground floor while crying and listening to the sounds of bombs, tanks and fighter-jets. When she was found two days later, she was nearly dead after losing so much blood. The 15-year old Amira saw her father and two brothers getting killed by the shell that struck their home before she ran out seeking shelter…

Outcry over weapons used in Gaza
AlJazeera.net
Medics working in the Gaza Strip have condemned Israel’s use of suspected “new weapons” that inflict horrific injuries they say most surgeons will not have seen before. Dr Jan Brommundt, a German doctor working for Medecins du Monde in the south Gazan city of Khan Younis, described the injuries he had seen as “absolutely gruesome”. Speaking to Al Jazeera on Tuesday, Brommundt said surgeons had reported many cases where casualties had lost both legs rather than one, prompting suspicions that the Israelis were using some form of Dense Inert Metal Explosives (Dime)…

The 22-Day Slaughterhouse
Reza Fiyouzat, Revolutionary Flowerpot Society
The Israeli leaders are claiming victory in their latest atrocity, the 22-day-long slaughtering of innocent civilians in the Gaza Strip; destroying 4000 homes and damaging 16,000 more, killing upwards of 1,500 people, wounding and injuring more than 5,000, destroying government buildings (used and needed by ALL the population), mosques, schools, UN buildings, even hospitals — the biggest destruction in this department, the best equipped Gaza City’s Quds Hospital, in the process obliterating half of the available capacity in Gaza City for taking care of the sick and the injured, making sure that the number of murdered will continue to rise for weeks to come. And that is called victory by the Israeli sadists. Victory? Against a trapped and captive, starved and oppressed population living on their millennial, ancestral lands, lands which they refuse to let the Israelis steal more of? …

Big Party, Small Change: Baby, We Were Born to Run…the Empire
Chris Floyd
I understand there’s a big party going on in Washington this week, where hundreds of thousands of people are gathering to celebrate Bob Gates’ retention as Pentagon chief. I mean, that is what this shindig is all about, isn’t it? Hope and… continuity? We’ve got Bush’s man still driving the war machine, we’ve got Bush’s generals still waging the “War on Terror” all over the world. We’ve got a president who is eager to spend his “political capital” on slashing “entitlements,” because everyone must sacrifice, everybody’s “going to have to have some skin in this game” — everyone, that is, except for the president’s Wall Street backers, who are about to receive yet another tranche of billions of taxpayer dollars in what they are now calling openly — and rightly — “opportunity funding.” We’ve got a president honoring homophobic right-wing preachers who urge their followers to imitate the mindless zeal of Nazis and Bolsheviks in doing “whatever it takes” to establish Christianist dominion…

Video: Gazans return to rubble – 19 Jan 2009

A lull in fighting has given many Palestinians in Gaza a chance to return to home since Israel’s offensive began 24 days ago. Al Jazeera’s Sherine Tadros met one family who revisited their home in Attatra, but could nothing but destruction and desvastation…

Sacrificing Gaza to revive Israel’s Labor party
Smadar Lavie, The Electronic Intifada
…How cynical are Israeli politicians that they have chosen to sacrifice the lives of innocent Gazan families to seek political advantage in the elections that will happen on 10 February. Not only has the Israeli regime sent its military machine to commit genocide in Gaza, it has also endangered the lives of its own citizens and soldiers. This, without even once trying to negotiate in good faith with the elected government of the Palestinian people…

ISRAEL TO MOVE ITS ‘TROOPS’ TO THE BLOGESPHERE
Desertpeace
Despite the ‘Cease-Fire’, Israel is still worried about its image…
They have successfully barred the Western news media from seeing what is really happening… now they are targeting Bloggers, again proving the strength of the Blogesphere and the influence it holds. What they mean by ‘combat’ remains a mystery… will they continue to hack into our blogs and try to shut us down one way or another? Will they add their poisonous comments to our pages? They are already doing those things… so it will be interesting to see what they have in store for us…

Gazans Do Not Blame Hamas
Mel Frykberg
…Initial estimates state that 15 percent or 20,000 of the Gaza Strip’s buildings have been damaged, with nearly 30,000 Palestinians forced to find shelter in UN Relief and Welfare Agency (UNRWA) shelters and with family. Nearly 1,300 Gazans lost their lives, around a third of these children, with a total of more than half of the deaths civilian. The number of injured is pushing 4,000. “People are extremely angry and the level of hate against Israel is very high. I have lived and worked in Gaza for many years and I have never seen such hatred from the population,” said Qleibo. Gazans are not blaming Hamas, contrary to Israel’s wishes. “People laugh at Israel’s claims that this was a war against the Islamic resistance organisation and not one aimed at civilians…

Ten more people found in rubble, thousands in mourning
PNN
It is the second day of the “ceasefire” which has Israeli forces still inside the Gaza Strip. The year and a half siege is still in place, as is the closure. Troops line the boundaries. Israeli warplanes still fly overhead with reconnaissance aircraft circling. A warship fired a missile, but no one was injured. Rescue teams found 10 more Palestinians dead in the rubble that the Gaza Strip was degraded to. Hamas’ armed resistance wing, the Al Qassam Brigades, held a press conference this morning paying tribute to the Palestinian people for remaining steadfast during 22 days of a major Israeli operation. Thousands of people are in mourning in the Strip that by the initial estimates of the National Statistics Service will take 1.9 billion USD to rebuild. Twenty-two thousand homes were partially or completely destroyed…

Rafah, a landscape scarred by Israel’s war
Donald Macintyre, Independent
Even in the darkness, we could see the piles of rubble: one had been the police station, destroyed in the heavy bombing on the first day of Israel’s offensive, killing 22 Hamas policemen; another pile accounted for the houses that had been destroyed around Muntasa, a favoured children’s play area and park which the Israelis say militants had used for firing rockets – residents deny the claim. The park is no more, a field of smashed masonry and concrete. Rafah, the southernmost city of Gaza, probably suffered more than any other from the eight long years of conflict before the start of Operation Cast Lead but even on the short journey here from the Egyptian border, some of the new devastation visited on the area and its inhabitants was evident…

Israel recruits ‘army of bloggers’ to combat anti-Zionist Web sites
Cnaan Liphshiz, Haaretz
The Immigrant Absorption Ministry announced on Sunday it was setting up an “army of bloggers,” to be made up of Israelis who speak a second language, to represent Israel in “anti-Zionist blogs” in English, French, Spanish and German. The program’s first volunteer was Sandrine Pitousi, 31, from Kfar Maimon, situated five kilometers from Gaza. “I heard about the project over the radio and decided to join because I’m living in the middle of the conflict,” she said…

After Sderot, Will President Barak Obama Visit Gaza?
Sami Jamil Jadallah
Candidate Barack Obama visited the southern Israeli city of Sderot to express his support to the town’s people. Sderot has been marketed by the powerful Jewish media machine in the US as suffering a great deal from Hamas’ ballistic and nuclear missiles. I wonder if President Obama will make a similar visit and see for himself what America’s real missiles, real jets and real bombs and rockets did to Gaza and the people of Gaza. Candidate Obama on his visit to Sderot was reaching low to win A few more Jewish votes. Would President Obama reach as high and reach the hundreds of millions around the world who condemned the war crimes committed in Gaza?…

Another War, Another Defeat
John J. Mearsheimer
Israelis and their American supporters claim that Israel learned its lessons well from the disastrous 2006 Lebanon war and has devised a winning strategy for the present war against Hamas. Of course, when a ceasefire comes, Israel will declare victory. Don’t believe it. Israel has foolishly started another war it cannot win. The campaign in Gaza is said to have two objectives: 1) to put an end to the rockets and mortars that Palestinians have been firing into southern Israel since it withdrew from Gaza in August 2005; 2) to restore Israel’s deterrent, which was said to be diminished by the Lebanon fiasco, by Israel’s withdrawal from Gaza, and by its inability to halt Iran’s nuclear program. But these are not the real goals of Operation Cast Lead. The actual purpose is connected to Israel’s long-term vision of how it intends to live with millions of Palestinians in its midst. It is part of a broader strategic goal: the creation of a “Greater Israel.” Specifically, Israel’s leaders remain determined to control all of what used to be known as Mandate Palestine, which includes Gaza and the West Bank…
