Moloch’s Altar: Child Sacrifice and the War on Terror
Chris Floyd
…The international Terror Warriors, and their multitude of sycophants, worship war: it thrills them, it arouses them, it imbues them with a sense of power and purpose and righteousness and superiority. Whatever their professed faith — and almost all of them make a great show of their devotion to a great benevolent deity in the sky — their true god is Moloch: earthbound, blood-steeped, ravenous for sacrifice. And his devotees — our elites, our “leading citizens,” our “great and good” — are happy to obey, eagerly offering up their god’s favorite dish — innocent flesh — on his blazing altars…

Report direct from Gaza
‘Live from Gaza: Day 14 of the Israeli Blitzkrieg’
Sameh A. Habeeb
…I have got more calls from anonymous persons stop blogging or I would be killed. Yet, I would keep on this track. Some of you do wonder how I send news in such conditions. I really suffer a lot to send you this update due to lack of power. I go around 4 kilo meters a day in this cruel war where I charge my laptop battery to be able to send this work! This is very risky since shells rain down and drones hover over me! I will keep this up…

The Indelible Shame of the Jewish State
A Culture of Cowardice Exposed to Acts of Valor
Kim Petersen
The Jewish state’s genocidal rampage against Gaza appears unbound by any tenets of law or morality. The Jews of Israel do not even heed their own holocaust mantra of “Never forget.” It makes one wonder: does that mantra only apply to crimes against Jews and not by Jews? The criminality of Israel includes: * massacres of civilians1 and families; * interfering with medical personnel; * targeting and killing UN staff to continue the Israeli policy of starving the Gazans; * humiliating UN personnel;* targeting of schools,89 mosques,10 hospitals11, homes and shelters; and * crackdowns on domestic dissent…

Trapped by Israeli troops six days in one room, 33 Gazans seek Red Cross intervention
Ma’an news
A family trapped by Israeli forces in for six days one room of their home in the Al-Mughrqa area, south of Gaza City, phoned Ma’an on Friday seeking urgent rescue. The Al-Wahidi family is appealing to the Red Cross, human rights organizations, or any relevant organization, to intervene and rescue them. Salem Yousef Al-Wahidi, the owner of the family house, says 33 members of the family have been trapped in the house without food or drink since Sunday, when Israeli tanks moved into the area…

Why Hamas is Not the Issue
Gaza: History Matters
ELAINE C. HAGOPIAN
How does one explain the horrific fate that has befallen caged Gaza – a land saturated with rubble and body parts – carpet-bombed by air, invaded by ground, attacked by sea? Put to the test of history, Israeli “explanations” fail the credibility test. History matters. Israel conquered and occupied Gaza (along with the West Bank and East Jerusalem) in 1967. Hamas was an offshoot of the Egyptian Muslim Brothers. In Gaza, it provided a network of social welfare institutions supporting the poor. During the first Palestinian Intifada (literally “shaking off” the occupation), a Hamas resistance military wing was formed. Israel and the US favored and met with Islamic Hamas leadership as a counterforce to the secular Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) Fatah faction then dominant in the Intifada. As Hamas later strengthened, Israel reversed the process. History matters. Palestinians have consistently resisted Israeli dominance over their lives…

US Senate Endorses Israel’s War on Gaza
Jeremy R. Hammond / January 9th, 2009
The US Senate on Thursday passed a non-binding resolution promoted by the influential Israeli lobby AIPAC (The American Israel Public Affairs Committee), effectively endorsing Israel’s war on Gaza. The resolution, entitled “A resolution expressing solidarity with Israel in Israel’s defense against terrorism in the Gaza Strip” recognizes “the right of Israel to defend itself against attacks from Gaza” and reaffirms “the United States’ strong support for Israel in its battle with Hamas”. The resolution does not recognize the right to self-defense of the Palestinian people…

Revise Your Terror List
STUART LITTLEWOOD
Inappropriate use of the term “terrorism” by people with despicable motives is probably the most serious obstacle to peace. Can somebody please explain – Mr Brown? Mr Miliband? – why Britain (or any other nation for that matter) blindly accepts America’s decree that Hamas must be regarded as a terrorist organization? It is, in the words of John Pilger’s illuminating piece, (Holocaust Denied: The Lying Silence of Those Who Know), the Arab world’s only democratically elected government and draws its popularity from its resistance to the Palestinians’ oppressor and tormentor of 60 years. As Pilger points out, when Hamas foiled a CIA coup in 2007 the event was reported in the western media as ‘Hamas’s seizure of power’. “Likewise, Hamas is never described as a government, let alone democratic,” he says…

Massacre of a family seeking sanctuary
The Samounis claim they were guided to a safe haven by Israeli troops – only to be cut down by shells
By Donald Macintyre and Said Ghazali in Jerusalem and Fares Akram in Gaza
Bitterly cold, famished, and thirsty they may have been. But the dozens of men, women, children and elderly of the extended Samouni family, sheltering in the unfinished warehouse-like building owned by one of their relatives, at least felt relatively secure. Some explain that Israeli troops had explicitly told them to remain in the building – in several cases after actually escorting them there. They were relieved to wake to find the neighbourhood quiet for the first time since the ground offensive had began 36 hours earlier. So much so, according to one of them, that some time after 6am, four of the men decided to set out and bring an uncle and his family to their refuge. It was then, survivors say, that the greatest of all the horrors visited on the Zeitoun district of eastern Gaza City occurred. A shell hit the little group, killing 27-year-old Muhammad instantly, and injuring the other three still lingering at the door…

Threat of epidemics in Gaza
IRIN News
The total halt to vaccinations in Gaza since the Israeli offensive began on 27 December could result in epidemics, a risk increased by Gaza’s high population density and dire living conditions, the World Health Organization (WHO) warned on 8 January. Some 1.5 million Palestinians live in the 365sqkm coastal Strip. “If vaccinations are stopped for one or two weeks this is enough to cause a widespread outbreak of avoidable diseases – such as measles, hepatitis and polio – amongst children and the larger population,” WHO health officer Mahmoud Daher told IRIN by telephone from Gaza…

Testimony: Soldiers Killed and injured dozens of persons from a-Samuni family in a-Zeitun neighborhood, Gaza, Jan. ‘09
B’Tselem
On Sunday [4 January], around 9:00 A.M., soldiers came to the house of my father-in-law, Rashed a-Samuni, which is located next to a concrete engineering company. We were fourteen people in the house, all of us from a-Samuni family: me, my husband, Tawfiq, 21, our infant, Jumana, nine months old, my father-in-law, Rashed, 41, my mother-in-law, Rabab, 38, and my husband’s brothers, Musa, 19, Walid, 17, Halmi, 14, Zeineb, 12, Muhammad, 11, Shaban, 9, Issa, 7, Islam, 12, Israa, 2. The soldiers came to the house on foot and knocked on the door. We opened and then, threatening us with weapons, they forced us to leave the house. They had bullet-proof vests on and had automatic weapons. Their faces were painted black. We left the house. Walid ran from another door of the house, but the soldiers caught him…

UN: Israel bombed building used for evacuated Palestinians
Monsters and Critics
A United Nations report released Friday said that earlier this week Israeli forces repeatedly shelled a home to which the UN had evacuated about 110 Palestinians in the Zeitoun area of Gaza City, killing around 30 people. The Israeli military said it had no immediate comment. ‘We received eyewitness accounts from several survivors,’ said Allegrea Pacheco, the deputy head of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA)…

Israel follows the path of Nazi Germany
Lech Biegalski
…Just like Nazi Germany in Poland, Israel is heading toward failure in Palestine. As the victims of holocaust ‘deal’ with their trauma by becoming perpetrators , history repeats itself with amazing accuracy. An unprecedented wave of public awareness and political will to stop Israeli war crimes is spreading around the world. Since 1948, and especially since 1967, Israel is consistently breaking international law and committing numerous crimes against peace, war crimes and crimes against humanity. In Palestine these atrocities include: * state sponsored kidnapping, assassination, and arbitrary imprisonment of political opponents; * military operations targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure; * use of illegal weapons (i.e.: depleted uranium, white phosphorus, cluster bombs); * production and storage of illegal nuclear weapons; * ethnic cleansing (intimidation, expulsion and extermination of Palestinian population); * deliberate creation of conditions resulting in humanitarian catastrophe…

US Congressman Dennis Kucinich calls for inquiry into illegal use of US weapons by Israel
Saed Bannoura – IMEM
After reports emerged from Gaza that Israel bombed a United Nations School on Tuesday, where people had sought refuge from Israeli military attacks, US Congressman Dennis Kucinich has called for an investigation into Israel’s possible illegal use of US-supplied weapons. The US is the single largest supplier of weapons to Israel, with over $3 billion in weapons transfers taking place each year. In addition to F16 fighter jets, guns, tanks and bombs, the US has also supplied Israel with tens of thousands of cluster bombs, weapons which have been declared illegal under international law…

In spite of UN Resolution (1860); army continues offensive killing 29 Palestinians on Friday
Saed Bannoura – IMEM
The Security Council issued resolution number 1860 calling on an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, yet the Israeli military killed on Friday 29 Palestinians, including 6 family members, destroyed seven homes and wounded dozens of residents. The number of Palestinians who were killed in Israel’s offensive exceeded 800 residents and more than 3200 Palestinians were wounded, half of the casualties were women and children…

Testimony: 3 children killed by missile when playing in the street, Khan Yunis, Jan. ‘09
B’Tselem
Last Friday [2 January], at 2:15 P.M., I was standing next to al-’Amda Restaurant, which is about eighty meters from my house. Four men from the neighborhood were standing opposite me. It was quiet. The only sound was from an unmanned Israeli observation plane that we call “a-Zananeh.” Four children of my cousins were playing outside. They were having fun with a street dog, chasing after it. According to Islam, dogs are impure, and if you touch them you have to wash your hands before eating or praying. I shouted at them that I wouldn’t let them eat with me if they played with the dog…

Israel, Hamas reject Security Council resolution
Ma’an news
Both Israel and Hamas rejected on Friday a UN Security Council resolution calling for an immediate halt to hostilities in the Gaza Strip. Hamas spokesperson Sami Abu Zuhri argued that the resolution is biased toward Israel and against the Palestinians, and is intended to exact a political price from Hamas. He said the resolution does not fulfill Hamas’ conditions, which are “to end the Israeli aggression immediately, lift the blockade and Israel’s withdrawal from Gaza.” The Hamas-run de facto government in Gaza has no voice at the United Nations. The Palestinian Authority mission to the UN represents the rival Fatah-led government in the West Bank. In rejecting the resolution, Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said, “The State of Israel has never agreed that any outside body would determine its right to defend the security of its citizens.”…

Criticism of Israel’s war crimes mounts
‘We are very violent’, says Israeli commander
Jonathan Cook
Criticism by international watchdog groups over the increasing death toll in Gaza mounted this week as the first legal actions inside Israel were launched accusing the army of intentionally harming the enclave’s civilian population. The petitions – over attacks on medical personnel and the shelling of United Nations schools in Gaza – follow statements by senior Israeli commanders that they have been using heavy firepower to protect soldiers during their advance on built-up areas. “We are very violent,” one told Israeli media. There is also growing evidence that Israeli forces have been firing phosphorus shells over densely populated areas in a move that risks violating international law by inflicting burns on civilians…
