Enduring Priorities in an Age of Change: War and Profits Over People
Chris Floyd
…The president-elect has made his fundamental priorities clear – for anyone who wants to see them. The war machine and the financial markets will continue to be gorged and comforted in their wonted manner. Programs to help ordinary citizens, programs to enhance the quality of life for individuals and the well-being of society, will be the first – perhaps the only – areas to feel the budget axe. Whatever you may think of the efficacy of such programs, this ordering of priorities — war and profits over people — bespeaks the same depraved sensibility that has prevailed for generations in Washington. It is the same old rancid swill in a stylish new container…

Holocaust Denied
The lying silence of those who know
John Pilger
…They know that the horror now raining on Gaza has little to do with Hamas or, absurdly, “Israel’s right to exist.” They know the opposite to be true: that Palestine’s right to exist was canceled 61 years ago and the expulsion and, if necessary, extinction of the indigenous people was planned and executed by the founders of Israel. They know, for example, that the infamous “Plan D” resulted in the murderous depopulation of 369 Palestinian towns and villages by the Haganah (Jewish army) and that massacre upon massacre of Palestinian civilians in such places as Deir Yassin, al-Dawayima, Eilaboun, Jish, Ramle and Lydda are referred to in official records as “ethnic cleansing.” Arriving at a scene of this carnage, David Ben-Gurion, Israel’s first prime minister, was asked by a general, Yigal Allon, “What shall we do with the Arabs?” Ben-Gurion, reported the Israeli historian Benny Morris, “made a dismissive, energetic gesture with his hand and said, ‘Expel them’…

UN truck driver killed by Israeli forces
Gazan toll rises to 763
Ma’an news
Israeli troops shot and killed a United Nations truck driver in Gaza on Thursday. Witnesses said the UNRWA driver was shot near the Erez border crossing at the northern end of the Strip. A bystander was injured in the shooting. The attack occured two days after Israeli artillery killed 45 civilians at a UN compound in northern Gaza. According to Palestinian medical officials, more bodies were recovered from previous attacks on Thursday, bringing the Palestinian death toll to 763 over 13 days of the Israeli offensive. Some 3,120 have been injured. Israeli artillery shells killed two women who were attempting to flee advancing tanks in the town of Al-Qarrara, in southern Gaza…

Israel May Face Charges for War Crimes
Mel Frykberg
Israel has committed war crimes and should be prosecuted in an international court, says Raji Sourani, head of the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR) in Gaza. “The repeated bombing of clearly marked civilian buildings, where civilians were sheltering, crosses several red lines in regard to international law,” Sourani told IPS. Palestinian Authority (PA) delegate to Britain Professor Manuel Hassassian has said the PA will launch legal proceedings against Israeli leaders it says are responsible for war crimes in Gaza, according to a Palestinian news report…

War and Natural Gas: The Israeli Invasion and Gaza’s Offshore Gas Fields
MICHEL CHOSSUDOVSKY, Globalresearch, traduzione di Conedonchisciotte
The military invasion of the Gaza Strip by Israeli Forces bears a direct relation to the control and ownership of strategic offshore gas reserves. This is a war of conquest. Discovered in 2000, there are extensive gas reserves off the Gaza coastline. British Gas (BG Group) and its partner, the Athens based Consolidated Contractors International Company (CCC) owned by Lebanon’s Sabbagh and Koury families, were granted oil and gas exploration rights in a 25 year agreement signed in November 1999 with the Palestinian Authority…

Are US Troops Helping in Israel’s War on Gaza?
Jason Ditz
According to respected London-based Arabic language newspaper al-Quds al-Arabi, the United States deployed troops to the Egypt-Gaza border weeks ago, at Israel’s behest, and the Army Corps of Engineers is currently helping the Israeli military unearth the tunnels used to smuggle both weapons and goods from Sinai into the blockaded strip. Congressman Dennis Kucinich joined the chorus of outrage in the wake of yesterday’s Israeli attack on a United Nations girls’ school in the Gaza Strip refugee camp of Jabalya, expressing concern that the Israeli offensive (using US weapons) may violate provisions of the Arms Export Control Act on 1976…

Media Eyeless in Gaza at Key Moment
Jim Lobe and Ali Gharib
Consumed by coverage of the Nov. 4 presidential election, U.S. mainstream media ignored a key Israeli military attack on a Hamas target that some Palestinians claim marked the effective end of the ceasefire between the two sides and set the stage for the current round of bloodletting. While the major U.S. news wire Associated Press (AP) reported that the attack, in which six members of Hamas’s military wing were killed by Israeli ground forces, threatened the ceasefire, its report was carried by only a handful of small newspapers around the country…

Medical teams find ‘unbelievable’ horror amid rubble
Rory McCarthy on Israel-Gaza border, Hazem Balousha in Gaza City
Ambulances were able to drive to some of the most heavily shelled areas in Gaza for the first time to collect the dead and injured yesterday, as Israel paused its military offensive for three hours to allow in aid, amid growing international pressure to call a ceasefire and ease the humanitarian crisis. A team of medics and volunteers from the Palestinian Red Crescent took advantage of the lull in fighting to drive to Zeitoun, the scene of an Israeli attack on a house on Monday that was known to have killed nine members of the Samouni family. It was the first time medics had been able to reach the scene…

A Sick Twist
Hussein Al-alak, Iraqi Solidarity News (Al-Thawra)
It appears that the British government may have once again sought to erode the democratic rights of the British public, by choosing to align itself with the interests of a foreign power, which is a claim being made by some campaigners over the government refusing activists the right to protest near the Israeli Embassy in London. The Morning Star have reported that a rally in defence of the people of Gaza, which is scheduled to take place on Saturday, has been denied the right to protest near the Embassy on the grounds of safety and that such demonstrations were “unprecedented”…

Gaza victims’ burns increase concern over phosphorus
Michael Evans and Sheera Frenkel, Times
Photographic evidence has emerged that proves that Israel has been using controversial white phosphorus shells during its offensive in Gaza, despite official denials by the Israel Defence Forces. There is also evidence that the rounds have injured Palestinian civilians, causing severe burns. The use of white phosphorus against civilians is prohibited under international law. The Times has identified stockpiles of white phosphorus (WP) shells from high-resolution images taken of Israel Defence Forces (IDF) artillery units on the Israeli-Gaza border this week…

Red Cross accuses Israel of neglecting Gaza wounded
Alan Cowell, International Herald Tribune
The International Committee of the Red Cross said Thursday it had discovered “shocking” scenes — including small children next to their mothers’ corpses — when its representatives gained access for the first time to parts of Gaza battered by Israeli shelling. It accused Israel of failing to meet obligations to care for the wounded in areas of combat… The statement said a team of four Palestine Red Crescent ambulances accompanied by Red Cross representatives made its way to Zeitoun Wednesday where it “found four small children next to their dead mothers in one of the houses. They were too weak to stand up on their own. One man was also found alive, too weak to stand up. In all, there were at least 12 corpses lying on mattresses.”…

Afghan Resistance Statement
The Invaders ‘Fiasco in 2008 and Their Empty Battle Fields in the New Year’
Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan
…Observers believe that on the face of the defeats and setbacks of America and her allies seen in 2008, it is plausible that she will face further isolation in the new year; NATO member countries may depart their ways with her. The USA will face more losses in the current year as against the past year because the Afghans have come to the conclusion to stay away from believing in the empty promises of USA. They will not leave the obligation of Jihad to be fulfilled only by the Mujahideen of the Islamic Emirate. It will be seen that in the new year, the land of Afghanistan will become the scene of a popular upheaval against the invading forces. It will be a year of resistance and uprising to give an unforgettable lesson to the enemy…

Testimonies from Gaza
Physicians for Human Rights-Israel
…We are 16 people in the house, 12 of them are children and a baby that was born this week. We all live in one room and we go out only when we have to go to the toilets or to shower. Two hours a day there is electricity and during these two hours some one runs to prepare bread or to cook in the kitchen. The stores in the neighborhood are closed and it is too dangerous to go out and look for products. Yesterday, one of our family members, who also lives in the neighborhood, went out for food and was killed. All the windows in the house are broken so it is cold at night and we do not have enough blankets. We hear the bombing from all directions, tanks, jeeps, planes- it is terrifying…
