Israel – The Sociopathic State
Mary Sojourner
The unconscionable attacks of Israel upon Gaza can be seen as the action of a sociopathic state upon a helpless victim. While the diagnosis of sociopathy is commonly reserved for the individual, it may be used to describe an entire society in a way that illuminates the behavior of that society towards another group of people. Sociopathy is a social concept by definition, and for this reason can be expanded to describe the nature of an entire society. The ruling quality of the sociopath is a complete lack of empathy towards the Other. The sociopath is incapable of feeling for other people. The Israelis have kept the Gaza strip blockaded, hermetically sealed for a year and a half, causing untold suffering for the people of Gaza. The lack of empathy for so many helpless human beings is sociopathic. Israel has long held its status as a sociopathic state…

Gaza: what the medics see, do, and are subjected to; uncensored
Ewa Jasiewicz
On 31st December, around 2 am, two emergency medical services personnel were targeted by an Israeli missile as they attempted to reach injured in the Jabaliya region, northern Gaza. The first died immediately, the second soon after of complications from his internal injuries. Two days later, 2 more medics were injured in the area east of Gaza, again in the line of duty, again trying to reach the injured. Under the Geneva Conventions, Israel is obliged to allow and ensure safe passage to medical personnel to the injured. Instead, Israel routinely targets them. At the Jabaliya Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) station, the team there tells me of their injuries. Half, they say, of emergency medics and drivers in Gaza have been injured by Israel while trying to perform the duties…

Letter to the EU Council of Ministers
What part of Article 2* don’t you understand?
*Article 2 of the EU-Israel Association Agreement
Stuart Littlewood
Gentlemen, There’s an ugly plan afoot in the EU to reward Israel for its abominable and criminal conduct by enhancing the already handsome benefits enjoyed by the neighbourhood bully under the EU-Israel Association Agreement. Most EU citizens have little idea how the EU works or how to hold it to account for blunders like dereliction of duty. That’s no surprise because it is cloaked in incomprehensible complexity and there is no way to hold it accountable. Those in control shamelessly do as they please, it seems. Take this wretched EU-Israel Association Agreement. Its purpose is to promote (1) peace and security, (2) shared prosperity through, for example, the creation of a free trade zone, and (3) cross-cultural rapprochement. It governs not only EU-Israel relations but Israel’s relations with the EU’s other Mediterranean partners – including the Palestinian National Authority…

The obscenity that is the state of Israel
William Bowles
The Gaza strip is 360 square kilometers in size with a population approaching 1.5 million people, over 60% of whom are under the age of fourteen. By comparison, London is 1,706 square km, or 4.7 times the size of the Gaza Strip.Since 27 December, 2008 the Gaza Strip has been subjected to intense aerial bombardment with the most powerful weapons on the planet, all of which have been supplied by the United States: F-16s, Apache helicopter gunships, thermobaric bombs, remote-guided missile equipped drones. Hundreds of tons of bombs and missiles have been dropped on the most densely packed place on Earth. And this on top of the complete blockade that has denied the Palestinians the most basic of necessities of life. And now, in an attempt to finish off Palestinian resistance following an intense artillery bombardment, this benighted land has been invaded. Yet judging by the Western media coverage, you would think that Israelis have been killed in their hundreds by Hamas rockets…

On the Murder of Saddam
Iraqi Solidarity News (Al-Thawra)
…What imperialism does not acknowledge though, is that the murder of Saddam did not destroy the resistance to global imperialism and its assistants in the form of Maliki and Talibani, but what the murder created was a resurrection in the minds of all conscious Arabs and revolutionaries, a resurrection which brought back a flood of memories, where people felt the achievements of Iraq surge through their bodies, where people recalled the tangible and concrete facts of the nationalization of our oil, of the revenues from this, which were distributed equally into the development of a functioning and prosperous state that provided for the full education, and other social benefits, of each and every Iraqi from the cradle through the grave…

PFLP strongly condemns the submission of the UN Security Council to U.S. domination
Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine
The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine condemns and denounces in the strongest terms the actions of the United States to once again veto any effort to cease the brutal Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people in Gaza in the United Nations on January 3, 2009. The United States, acting fully in its expected capacity, as a brutal, criminal, colonialist empire governed by war criminals, from U.S. President George W. Bush to UN Ambassador Zalmay Khalilizad, as the head of the imperialist camp and the enemy aiming its weaponry at the Palestinian people. The United States provides – and funds – the amounts of weaponry being used against the Palestinian people in Gaza, including supporting the Zionist colonial-settler state with F-16 airplanes, Apache helicopters, and their most advanced weaponry, in addition to the vast amounts of political and economic support that it provides for its strategic partner, Israel…

Mother and four children among latest Gaza dead – 510 total killed
Ma’an news
A mother and her four children became the most recent victims of an ongoing Israeli air and ground offensive on the Gaza Strip on Sunday, bringing the death toll 35 since the ground invasion began on Saturday night. Palestinian medical officials in Gaza said that the five members of the Baker family were blown to pieces when Israeli warplanes targeted their home in the At-Toufah neighborhood of Gaza City. Medics also said that two of the children were one and two years old respectively. The ages of the other two were not determined. Separately an airstrike in Jabaliya has killed five Palestinians. Four other children were killed in the town of Beit Lahiya, in the north of the Gaza Strip, in a series of airstrikes during which ten civilians were killed and 30 injured. Earlier on Saturday, three children were killed in an airstrike in the city of Rafah, in the south that targeted a Palestinian fighter…

PFLP calls upon Arab and international forces to escalate their actions and solidarity
Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine
The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine called on January 3, 2008 upon the Arab people and all progressive forces in the world to escalate all forms of resistance against the Zionist and imperialist enemy. The PFLP noted the mass response of the Arab people who have taken to the streets across the Arab homeland in support of their sisters and brothers resisting and beseiged in Gaza and called upon this resistance to continue and escalate. The Front further called for popular and armed resistance to the occupiers and invaders of our land to intensify and increase, so that as the enemy attempts to intensify its crimes in Gaza, it will feel the response of the resistance and the fire of the anger and determination of the people everywhere. In addition, the PFLP called upon the progressive forces of the world to continue and intensify their actions and mobilization against the Israeli crimes and the U.S. and European complicity and support in this war against our people…

‘If you have a problem, the Taliban solves it. In the government offices there is only corruption and bribery’
Julius Cavendish
…just 30 miles from Kabul, it is Taliban country. Over the past year, the militants have established a stronghold in Wardak, which borders the capital to the south and west…Noori, the minibus driver, said the Taliban’s system is better than the government’s. “If you have a problem the Taliban solves it,” he said. “In the government offices there is only corruption and bribery. “Last year, the Taliban did not have 80, 90 or 100% control,” he added. “It was a mess. There were robbers, killers, everything. Now, you could walk around with 10kg of gold on your head and no-one would touch you. You can walk around at night without fear.” As an example of the rough justice meted out, he cited a robbery in late summer when eight trucks of wheat disappeared. The Taliban investigated, found the trucks and returned them to their owners…

Life in Gaza: ‘Hungry, freezing, and terrifying’
Mohammed Dawwas
When the bombing of Gaza started last Saturday, the Palestinian journalist Mohammed Dawwas, looking from his seventh-floor window, saw his nine-year-old son, Ibrahim, rushing home from school near the police academy that was destroyed in the very first air raid. This is his diary for a week that was to end in invasion…

A Harrowing View of Death in Gaza
KABOBfest
This is Gaza… but it looks like a scene out of Iraq. Dozens upon dozens of mutilated men, women and children lying on the pavement, covered in ashes and blood. Apparently filmed on a mobile phone, their gruesome fate is another chilling reminder of what Israeli terror looks like. The video has already been taken down several times on YouTube; its provenance is still unclear – we don’t know exactly where the fuzzy images were shot or when, but what happened is crystal clear: Israeli Occupation Forces struck an open space filled with people…

Dozens of Gazans killed in Israeli ground assault
AFP
At least 23 Palestinians, the majority of them civilians, have been killed in Gaza on the first day of Israel’s ground offensive in the Hamas-run enclave, medics said on Sunday. Seventeen of the victims were civilians, they said, adding that some 200 people were wounded as a result of air strikes and Israeli ground fire. Twenty people were killed in the north of the territory, two in Gaza City and one near Khan Yunis in the south, they said…

What Israel don’t want you to see
Haitham Sabbah
This video clip was taken with a mobile camera immediately after a terrorist Israeli air strike hit a busy market where kids with their mothers and fathers were searching for food to eat from one of the local markets early on Saturday 03, Jan 2009, Gaza. As you will see, there are no words to describe the terror of the Jewish state of Israhell. This is why Israel is continuously refusing to allow foreign correspondence and reporters from entering Gaza…

“They know no limits now”
Eva Bartlett writing from the occupied Gaza Strip, Live from Palestine
In the haze of dust and smoke from the latest F-16 strike, a family self-evacuates. The dispatcher at the Jabaliya Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) receives call after call from terrified residents fleeing their homes. It’s a new year, a new Nakba, and an old scene; Israel is bombarding Gaza once again and the world is standing idly by, sitting on a fence very different from the electrified border fence encaging Gaza, or the separation wall dividing and ghettoizing the West Bank. The world sits on the fence, justifying Israel’s massacre of a civilian population already dying from the siege. We are four ambulances out tonight, versus two last night. The ambulances weave nimbly along blacked-out streets of a manufactured ghost town — like the streets all over Gaza — dodging fresh piles of rubble. It’s absolutely impossible, unbelievable, it’s a massacre. “They know no limits now,” the medics report. “They are going crazy.”…

FPA Statement 8 on the Massacre in Gaza
The Free Palestine Alliance
…the FPA warns against a false understanding of the ongoing assault – that it is simply a humanitarian crisis. We must go beyond only alleviating the humanitarian crisis that is rapidly evolving to accurately understanding the roles played by the various elements in this anti-colonial struggle. The Zionists are targeting a national decolonization movement by the Palestinian people that has been raging for 60 years, with all the dimensions and complexities of such a struggle. It is a struggle that will go through many battles, political and military, and the cost will be very high as fascistic Zionists will employ all available means of destruction including the commitment of massacres. Facing all this, the Palestinian Arab people must remain vigilant and clear that theirs is a struggle for full justice and liberation that deserves the solidarity and support of the international community in every way. It is a struggle that can only succeed within the overall Arab struggle for progress and unity away from despotism, dictatorships, and complicit monarchs and corrupt rulers…

Norwegian Doctor in Gaza invites Livni to see the civilians Israel “is not” hitting

Barakeh to PNN: 100,000 people demonstrate in Sakhnin
Hiba Lama, PNN
At least 100,000 people are demonstrating in Sakhnin, a Palestinian city within Israeli boundaries. Plans were laid early in the week for the massive march which the Israeli police threatened to prevent. Palestinian members of the Israeli Knesset Ahmed Tibi and Mohammad Barakeh said that this is among the largest demonstrations within the Green Line. Barakeh told PNN from the streets this afternoon, “This is the largest march in the history of Palestinians [in Israeli boundaries]. There are three clear objectives: the first is solidarity with the people in the Strip who are suffering from seven days of major Israeli attacks.”…

Gaza attack a ‘monstrosity’: UN chief
Ian Munro,
ISRAEL’S ground offensive in Gaza was a “monstrosity” and a marked failure for the United Nations, the president of the UN General Assembly said. In an extraordinary outburst, Miguel D’escoto Brockmann, of Nicaragua, blasted the Israeli action as the Security Council convened its third emergency session on the crisis in Gaza. “I think it’s a monstrosity; there’s no other way to name it,” Mr Brockmann said yesterday. “Once again, the world is watching in dismay the dysfunctionality of the Security Council.”…

Israel pushes deeper into Gaza
AlJazeera.net
Heavy fighting is reported in Gaza between Israeli forces and Palestinian fighters after Israel launched its ground offensive on the territory. Thousands of Israeli troops entered the Gaza Strip overnight with tanks and helicopters, accompanied by naval support and air strikes. While the UN secretary general called for an immediate end to the operations, the Security Council failed to agree on a resolution calling for a ceasefire after an emergency meeting. Al Jazeera’s Sherine Tadros, reporting from the Shifa hospital in Gaza, said doctors were struggling to cope amid low supplies and the rising number of wounded…

Israel Invades Gaza, Blocks Ceasefire
Mel Frykberg
Israel launched a ground incursion into Gaza late Saturday night, ending a week of speculation whether a ground assault would follow a week’s intensive bombardment of Gaza from the air and coast. Simultaneously, Israeli officials in Jerusalem expressed satisfaction at a U.S. veto of a draft UN Security Council resolution, put together by Libya, which outlined a proposed ceasefire… The total Palestinian death toll since Israel’s military assault began Saturday a week ago, now stands at nearly 500, with 2,500 injured. Two Israeli soldiers were killed, and about 30 injured Saturday night. Six Israelis have now lost their lives in the past week…
