Did you forget about Fallujah? Fallujah didn’t forget
Wakeupfromyourslumber
I watched a few days ago one of Al Jazeera’s good programs “Without Frontiers” and it was about the city of Fallujah.. considering that it was the third anniversary of the Fallujah battle. I translated the most interesting portions of the program as there hardly is any news coming out of Iraq and especially Fellujah (…) First of all, I’d like to thank you and Al Jazeera for remembering Al Fallujah which everyone in the media seems to have forgotten after the catastrophe that befell it at the hands of US forces. Fallujah now is like a huge prison. It is surrounded by US forces and has 5 US check points through which the people have to pass at a specific determined time in order to either enter or leave Fallujah. People in Fallujah are totally paralyzed economically and socially and have no freedom to move as is normal in any city. Fallujah is still paying a heavy price of the US onslaught on it in 2004. Fallujah streets are destroyed or blocked by US forces. The markets are ruined. A lot of the original inhabitants of the city who had fled have come back to also terrible circumstances… but they didn’t really have any other option. Streets are blocked with concrete slabs that US forces are now decorating while claiming that these are “artistic works”….

Radioactive Ammunition Fired in Middle East May Claim More Lives Than Hiroshima and Nagasaki
Sherwood Ross
By firing radioactive ammunition, the U.S., U.K., and Israel may have triggered a nuclear holocaust in the Middle East that, over time, will prove deadlier than the U.S. atomic bombing of Japan. So much ammunition containing depleted uranium(DU) has been fired, asserts nuclear authority Leuren Moret, “The genetic future of the Iraqi people for the most part, is destroyed.” “More than ten times the amount of radiation released during atmospheric testing (of nuclear bombs) has been released from depleted uranium weaponry since 1991,” Moret writes, including radioactive ammunition fired by Israeli troops in Palestine….

Khudari holds IOA responsible for death of Palestinian child
Palestinian Information Center
MP Jamal Al-Khudari has held the Israeli occupation authority responsible for the death of a 9-year-old Palestinian child in the Gaza Strip on Monday after it refused to allow his treatment abroad despite his deteriorating health condition. The MP renewed warning that hundreds of other patients suffering various disease were on the verge of death due to the tightened siege on the Strip. Khudari appealed to the world to immediately step in and allow the departure of those patients, questioning the idle stand of the world vis-à-vis such tragic conditions….

Trial Seen for 2 Iraqi Officials
SAMEER N. YACOUB, AP
Iraq’s chief prosecutor said Monday a trial would begin within days for two former Health Ministry officials accused of diverting millions of dollars to Iraq’s biggest Shiite militia and allowing death squads to use ambulances and government hospitals to carry out kidnappings and killings. Former Deputy Health Minister Hakim al-Zamili and Brig. Gen. Hameed al-Shimmari, who was in charge of the ministry’s security force, were arrested after Iraqi soldiers stormed their offices in separate raids in February. The two are both Shiites, accused of links to the Mahdi Army – a militia loyal to anti-U.S. cleric Muqtada al-Sadr….

FLASHBACK: Fallujah – the hidden massacre
Photo gallery
RaiNews24
…The evidence in ‘Fallujah – the hidden massacre’ claims to show the US forces did not use phosphorous in the legitimate way – to highlight enemy positions – but dropped the substance indiscriminately on the city, and on a massive scale. The documentary also shows the terrible damage wrought by the US bombardment of Fallujah, and the carnage to civilians, some of whom lay sleeping. Equally disturbingly, a document in the report claims to prove that the U.S. forces have used the MK77 form of Napalm – the chemical used with devastating effect on civilians during the Vietnam war – on civilians in Iraq…

FLASHBACK: Weapons of Mass Destruction Employed by US to Imolate Falluja: White Phosphorus is a Chemical Weapon
Albasrah.net
The use of white phosphorus “violates the Geneva Protocol for the Prohibition of the Use in War of Asphyxiating, Poisonous or Other Gases, and of Bacteriological Methods of Warfare. Incendiary agents such as napalm and phosphorus are not considered to be CW agents since they achieve their effect mainly throughthermal energy. However, a report by the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry concludes that White Phosphorus achieves its effects mainly through non-thermal energy. It must be concluded that White Phosphorus is considered a CW [chemical weapon] agent, and would violate the Geneva Protocol since its use causes indiscriminate and extreme injuries especially when deployed in an Urban area such as Falluja, Iraq….

Be Good Victims.
Kris
First it was called a “conference”, then a “summit” and the latest preferred terminology is “meeting”. But whatever you call it, the Annapolis Conference/Summit/Meeting planned for November 27 is not being taken seriously. Just over a week away and there have been no invitations sent out, no joint declaration – not even a consensus on which countries will actually participate (…) Meanwhile, yet another sick Palestinian has died while attempting to get permission to leave Gaza for medical treatment. And Israeli troops continue to terrorize Palestinians in both Gaza and the West Bank, most of which goes largely unreported. Israeli soldiers have maintained a virtually permanent presence in Gaza for the last two months, arresting, bulldozing, killing – all unnoticed apparently. It seems the Jewish state expects all 1.5 millions Gazans to be good victims, despite the Israeli-inflicted problems of a destroyed economy, inhuman living conditions and total isolation from world. But perhaps the Palestinians should be thankful for Israel’s generosity. Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni said yesterday that Israel will allow Israeli Arabs to remain in Israel if a Palestinian state is ever realized. How nice of her not to strip the citizenship of 20% of Israel’s population. Now that really IS generosity….

PLC warns of human disaster in Gaza, asks Abbas to stop meeting the “enemy”
Palestinian Information Center
The PLC chairmanship on Monday warned of an imminent “human disaster” in the Gaza Strip due to the continued oppressive siege and the mass punishments imposed by the IOA. The chairmanship said in a statement that such conditions had led to the death of many Palestinian patients and deprived hundreds others of traveling abroad for necessary treatment. Acting PLC speaker Dr. Ahmed Bahar called on all PLC members especially the Fatah parliamentary bloc to attend the PLC session on Wednesday in a bid to stand united in face of the “Zionist conspiracy that targets all (Palestinians)”….

Palestinian Child Prisoners Lanquish in Israeli Jails
Hiyam Noir, PalestineFreeVoice
The Israelis keep over 10.000 Palestinians including children in detention centers and prisons. Each year, hundreds of Palestinian children from the Occupied Palestinian Territories are arrested, interrogated, and imprisoned by the Israeli military authorities. For example, in the period of 1998 to 2000, there is statistic reports of an 183% increase in the number of cases (89 in 1998 to 252 in 2000). In addition, there was a serious increase in the number of children arrested between the ages of 13 and 14. In 1999, arrested children aged 13 and 14 represented 9.90% of all DCI/PS cases. In the year 2000, that figure increased to 21.83%…

UAE, America’s 51st State and Cuba’s Coming Counterrevolution
karlmarxwasright
…For a thumbnail statistic, ALMOST every major American corporation is represented in Dubai. Along, of course, with others from Europe and elsewhere. And, while much is made about the balance of payments problem between the US and China, little is said about the UAE, the Abu Dhabi Investment Fund, as THE/A other major global holder of dollars and debt. As they say, frankly, on the Business Channel, the above will all be looking to “invest” their liquid cash in the US, amongst other places, especially, of course, now that the market is tanking. It will be a steal, quite literally. As I have also said previously, the UAE, the GCC, is a private corporation disguised as a state, thru which private investment dollars will flow, both to the greater, privatized “Middle East,” and, as well, the US, to buy up assets…

Palestinian child dies after being denied medical treatment in Israel

A twelve year-old Palestinian child on Monday died in the Gaza Strip after Israeli authorities barred the child from leaving the region to receive medical attention. Tamer Shaher al-Yazji, from Gaza city, died today at the Gaza’s children hospital, after his application to seek medical attention outside Gaza was delayed by the Israeli authorities. According to Ismail Yassin, of the intensive care unit at the childrens’ hospital, Tamer was supposed to leave for urgent treatment inside an Israeli hospital last Wednesday, but the transfer was delayed by the Israeli government. Tamer died after the chicken pox he was suffering went untreated….

SYRIA: Aid agencies begin food deliveries to over 50,000 Iraqi refugees
IRIN News
…”With every month that passes, we know that more and more Iraqi refugees are no longer able to provide food for their families. We are committed to a continued expansion of food distribution throughout Syria, and expect to add 5,000 to 6,000 people to our food distribution each month during the next six months,” said Pippa Bradford, a WFP representative in Syria. Last month Syria closed its doors to any further Iraqi refugees. While the government says it will not deport those in the country, Iraqis are struggling to make ends meet as they are not allowed to work legally and are rapidly running out of money. Dozens of refugee families have been forced to return to Iraq because their money had run out. Others have resorted to more desperate measures to generate income….

Malcom Lagauche
Another milestone: Lagauche has written 600 articles since he first went online in September 2003. Of these, some were great, some were good and some were not exactly Earth-shattering. Writers are like athletes because we have good and bad days. But, in the case of writers, we do not have hard statistics to measure the merit of our day’s work. It is only after an article has been deciphered by readers that we know if we should have written the piece or taken an early shower. That’s enough for sports analogies…

…I also thought of all those other Iraqis who have lost someone precious to them. Going from morgue to morgue, searching for a body they could recognize, a few remains they can hug goodbye… Or sitting by a bed watching the person they love exhale the final breaths, following an untreated illness, untreated due to lack. Or losing someone they love fall dead in front of their eyes following an iron, steel, raid – a raid chasing more unwanted bodies to be flushed… Or a child wilting away from lack of food and care…Or an elderly left to die alone in total abandonment… All those prisoners of a body, a body to be flushed away like a germ, fought against like one fights a disease… How many times can a heart be ripped apart? How many times can a heart attach itself and be violently brutally separated from the “object” of its attachment? How much grief can any one person contain?…

Open Letter to Sir John Holmes, UN Undersecretary- General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator
Khalid Amayreh
Dear Sir: Greeting. You must be aware of the nightmare now unfolding in the Gaza Strip. Gaza is simply dying a slow and painful death at the hands of the children and grandchildren of the Holocaust. This is not an overstatement or exaggerated description of a people long tormented by a sinister occupying power that is hell- bent on decimating them, using the basest and most inhumane of means, such as preventing food and other basic needs from reaching them. I could go on and one and on describing and explaining the catastrophic situation in Gaza where on any given day, children and other civilians succumb to their illnesses because Israel and other neighboring countries wouldn’t allow them to leave the blockaded territory for adequate medical care….

Money For Nothing
? Lawrence of Cyberia
Imagine there’s a country in the Middle East (let’s call it country “I”) that is immediately next door to another country that we could, for the sake of argument, refer to as country “P”. Imagine that for “security reasons”, cancer doctors in country P cannot easily travel abroad for the training and networking that would keep their skills up to date; and that country I does not allow country P to import equipment that would provide radiation treatment to children with cancer, likewise for “security reasons”. So country P has to send its cancer patients to neighboring countries to receive advanced medical treatment. Country P pays for about five-sixths of its seriously-ill patients to be treated in country P’s neighbors, Eg and Jo. Country P pays country I to provide medical treatment to the remaining one-sixth, even though the travel restrictions that country I imposes on the residents of country P means that they are sometimes reduced to carrying their desperately ill children to hospital on their backs, cross country. Imagine that country I pockets the money that country P pays it for cancer treatment, but when country P’s child cancer patients arrive for treatment in country I, country I’s doctors treat them cursorily with obsolete medical equipment that they no longer use to treat country I’s own children with cancer. Of course, the children from country P die. When confronted, the doctors from country I blame the children’s parents, saying that country P is a country of “fourth-rate” doctors! and its parents shouldn’t expect their children to receive first-rate medical care. And then read Toxic Treatment and discover that it’s not your imagination at all, but there really is a country I that takes money from a country P, and in return provides substandard treatment to children with cancer. And the children with cancer are real too. Two of them are Farah Jamal Harma (aged 10), and Hayah Azam Abu-Qabatya (12), and they’re dead. But remember: if doctors in Israel deliberately create a separate medical channel for Palestinians, which systematically gives them inferior treatment for life-threatening illnesses, you mustn’t call this kind of system “apartheid”, because that’s “anti-semitic”….

Most Iraqis still don’t have access to clean water
Bobby Caina Calvan, MCCLATCHY NEWSPAPERS
The water tankers arrive twice a week in this parched village surrounded by fallow fields stretching into the horizon. The town’s wells still pump out a flow, but few villagers dare drink from it unless in desperation. At the gate of Kayria Fayhan’s home, 250 gallons of the trucked-in cargo fill a metal tank for cooking and drinking, sometimes for washing up if itching from the groundwater becomes unbearable. Even the “clean” water from the tanker is a gamble on some weeks. “They say the water is clean, but sometimes the water is green,” Fayhan said. “Sometimes, there’s rust floating in it.”…

A group of gunmen killed in U.S. airstrikes in Iraq last week were pro-U.S. fighters, an American military officer said on Sunday, despite the military’s public statements that they were insurgents. The officer, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said U.S. military officials had talked to Sunni Arab tribal sheikhs in Taji, just north of Baghdad, to express their regret for the loss of life in the attack, which took place last Tuesday. “There was some confusion and we were not able to turn off the attack quickly enough,” he said of the airstrikes that continued for several hours despite frantic phone calls from local tribal leaders to the U.S. base in Taji….

US military strike on Pakistan advocated

Two experts have proposed that the US should take pre-emptive action to secure Pakistan’s nuclear weapons before they fall into the wrong hands. Frederick Kagan of the right-wing American Enterprise Institute and Michael O’Hanlon of the more liberal Brookings Institution argue in an article published in the New York Times on Sunday that the US simply cannot stand by as a nuclear-armed Pakistan descended into the abyss. Nor would it be strategically prudent to withdraw US forces from an improving situation in Iraq to cope with a deteriorating one in Pakistan….

‘Netherlands likely to extend tour in Afghanistan’
Daan de Wit
…Reports of Taliban killed by the Dutch appear regularly in the press. This is misleading because in practice it’s not so simple to determine who belongs to the Taliban. When at a certain point a number of Afghans wanted to fight alongside Dutch troops, a soldier used red and white military cordon tape to distinguish them from the Taliban. And distinguishing them while bombardments are going on is totally out of the question. This was made clear just recently when, out of 65 Afghans killed in the city of Deh Rawod, half of the victims consisted of women and children. ‘A human rights representative from the United Nations, Richard Bennett, said Monday that in the first four months of this year, between 320 and 380 civilians have been killed in military operations in Afghanistan….

As we all know, there are various modes of resistance to oppression. In some cases, as in the Palestine Liberation struggle, it has been a key element in the more than 60 years of European Zionist intervention, and the struggle of our people to reclaim and return to their land. The significance of cultural resistance in the Palestinian national struggle for liberation is usually underestimated and often overlooked. Cultural resistance is not an end in and of itself. Every other aspect of resistance is informed by its cultural aspect, both inside the resistance and among its supporters. For activists cultural resistance is also political resistance….

Coup D’État Rumblings in Venezuela
Stephen Lendman
The Bush administration tried and failed three prior times to oust Hugo Chavez since its first aborted two-day coup attempt in April, 2002. Through FOIA requests, lawyer, activist and author Eva Golinger uncovered top secret CIA documents of US involvement that included an intricate financing scheme involving the quasi-governmental agency, National Endowment of Democracy (NED), and US Agency for International Development (USAID). The documents also showed the White House, State Department and National Security Agency had full knowledge of the scheme, had to have approved it, and there’s little doubt of CIA involvement as it’s always part of this kind of dirty business. What’s worrying now is what went on then may be happening again in what looks like a prelude to a fourth made-in-Washington attempt to oust the Venezuelan leader that must be monitored closely as events develop…
