True Colors…
Layla Anwar, An Arab Woman Blues
… So why is everyone so shocked ? My grandmother who could not read and write used to tell me that the enemies of Iraq will never cease before they divide it and steal its resources. My grandfather recounting Britannia in Iraq used to say the same thing. My late father in the 80’s affirmed the same thing. My mother in her typical motherly fashion keeps repeating it today “See, I told you so, 20 years ago.” So why are you so surprised or shocked? Now what amazes me most, is why is everyone suddenly “surprised” or “shocked” by the Biden Resolution ? Any true Iraqi knew it all along. And as Haroon Mohamed above, pointed out, that was the plan all along, ever since 1990. I would go even further, and assert that this was the plan all along, prior to Desert Storm in 1991 and I would add, prior to the Iran-Iraq war. When the Americans decided to invade and occupy Iraq and split it on ethnic and sectarian grounds, (kurds, shias, sunnis) were they not preparing for that day ? When they declared “Iqlim Kurdistan” a safe, protected area in the 90’s, where they not preparing for that day ? When the anti-war (another hahahahaha) sell outs, with Chomsky at their head, cried about the oppression of the Shias and the Kurds, were they not preparing for that day ?…

Two Million Iraq Deaths, Eight Million Bush Asian Holocaust Deaths And Media Holocaust Denial
Dr Gideon Polya, Countercurrents.org
Recently Countercurrents published an expert analysis by outstanding US medical epidemiologists Professor Burnham (Johns Hopkins University ) and Professor Roberts (Columbia University) in which they commented trenchantly on the Mainstream media NON-reportage of the latest UK ORB survey indicating over 1 million violent post-invasion Iraqi deaths) . These world’s top medical epidemiologists concluded that, QUOTE: “Ignorance of Iraq death toll [is] no longer an option … Established methods for estimating deaths exist, even in times of war. Discussion of trends and policy effects based on meaningful and validated measures such as median income and death rates would make our leaders more accountable and leave us better informed. Deliberately ignoring the numbers of dead Iraqis is not an option worthy of the United States , or in our enlightened self-interest.” The following analysis reveals that the total VIOLENT and NON-VIOLENT post-invasion Iraqi excess deaths now total 1.5-2.0 million and that the total excess deaths in the Bush I and Bush II Asian Wars now total 8 MILLION…

IRAQ: Fear among refugees as cholera crosses border
IRIN News
…Refugee camps on Iraq’s borders and inside Iran, Syria and Jordan have been warned of the outbreak by the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR). “Many of us are suffering from diarrhoea. Doctors are not always available and this week we discovered that two men who were at our camp for a short period of time are now in Baghdad being treated for cholera,” said Haifa Izidin, 36, a displaced woman living in a camp on the Iraqi-Syrian border. “We are living in an unhygienic environment. Toilets are close to our living quarters, vegetables and beans are not washed properly – we’re therefore vulnerable to catching the disease,” Izidin added. According to WHO, since mid-August at least 3,315 people in Iraq have been infected with cholera. Of these at least 15 have died. WHO global cholera coordinator Claire-Lise Chaignat said that up to 10 cases have also been confirmed in Iran, near the Iraqi border…

USraeli-Sponsored Sectarianism and “Creative Destruction” Must be Defeated in Palestine
Tony Sayegh, Palestinian Pundit
.. The policy of “creative destruction” is being intensified inside the Gaza Strip simultaneously with the criminal total siege on 1.5 million Palestinians living there. Death squads loyal to Abbas and his warlords in the Green Zone in Ramallah have been intensifying their campaign of terror inside Gaza. The car bomb has been introduced to spread random killing and mayhem. Some Abbas loyalists have been caught planting bombs and others were killed while rigging a car bomb. The stooge Abbas is carrying out this policy to destabilize Hamas and to restore his fetid and corrupt control over the Gaza Strip. However, the USraeli objective is far more sinister. Having prevented the emergence of a Palestinian state, the USraeli objective is to destroy the Palestinians as a society, culture and people. By making living conditions unbearable, conditions for “voluntary” immigration are created. Analogous to the millions of Iraqi refugees, the goal is to depopulate what is left of Palestine to solve the “Palestinian problem” once and for all. This campaign of terror inside Gaza entered a new and dangerous phase yesterday when a 30-year old Palestinian Christian was killed. He owned and operated a book store which sold bibles and religious publications. The sinister plan had an obvious goal, which is to blame Hamas for the killing and to ignite Muslim-Christian strife in Palestine, similar to that which was successfully ignited in Iraq.! ..

ACTION ALERT: Why is Antiwar.com hiding the Iraq Genocide?
Gabriele Zamparini, The Cat’s Dream
The best estimate indicates that more than a million Iraqis have been killed as a result of the illegal US-led invasion and occupation. The average American believed approximately 9,900 Iraqis had died as a result of the war according to a February 2007 AP poll. The mainstream media are continuing to use figures provided by the website Iraq Body Count (IBC) to sell the public a number for total post-invasion deaths of Iraqis that is perhaps 5-10% of the true death toll. Antiwar.com’s page Casualties in Iraq – The Human Cost of Occupation includes a big Iraq Body Count’s banner and other IBC references, however that page does NOT include: • the studies conducted by the world leaders in the field of epidemiology and published as peer-reviewed scientific papers in the world’s leading medical journal, the Lancet; • the recently published ORB poll suggesting a total of 1,220,580 deaths as a result of the conflict in Iraq since 2003 (ie as a result of violence rather than a natural death such as old age)… Please, write to Antiwar.com and ask them to update their page, Casualties in Iraq – The Human Cost of Occupation, with references to the Lancet Studies and to the new ORB poll…

SCHEME TO MAKE THE WEST BANK PALESTINIAN FREE
Desert Peace
It’s simple… annex the West Bank and ‘allow’ Palestinians to stay if they become Jordanian citizens. Two questions arise… What if Jordan does not grant them citizenship and what if they do not want to become Jordanians?? What happened to the concept of a Palestinian State? Or was that just a ‘bone’ thrown to the former President of Palestine, Abbas?? Another question… let’s say the Palestinians in the West Bank agree to become Jordanians… how long will it be before they are all deported to Jordan?? Does the right wing in Israel really believe we are as stupid as they are… sheesh !!! Best to establish a Palestinian State and allow the Jews to stay if they wish… and kick the rest in the ass!…

Iraq Embassy Cost Rises $144 Million Amid Project Delays
Planning, Workmanship Cited as Problems
Glenn Kessler, Washington Post Staff Writer
The massive U.S. embassy under construction in Baghdad could cost $144 million more than projected and will open months behind schedule because of poor planning, shoddy workmanship, internal disputes and last-minute changes sought by State Department officials, according to U.S. officials and a department document provided to Congress. The embassy, which will be the largest U.S. diplomatic mission in the world, was budgeted at $592 million. The core project was supposed to have been completed by last month, but the timetable has slipped so much that the State Department has sought and received permission from the Iraqi government to allow about 2,000 non-Iraqi construction employees to stay in the country until March…

New spin on an old smear
Arablinks
…On Friday, AMSI head Harith al-Dhari made remarks in an interview with AlJazeera in which for the first time he directly criticized the “Iraqi Awakening” groups that are using US funding and support to attack AlQaeda (…) Al-Quds al-Arabi, recalling that al-Dhari has recently seen one of his brothers killed by AlQaeda in one of their “operations”, makes an obvious point: What al-Dhari is trying to do is to distinguish between his critical position with respect to some of their activities, on the one hand, and the idea of Sunni tribes fighting them armed by the Americans and in the service of the Americans’ aims and objectives. So here’s the new version of the smear: Al-Dhari’s attempt to prevent Iraqis from taking the takfiiri bait and launching another internecine war are being spun as a sellout to the takfiiri crazies. Here’s how Juan Cole puts it today: Al-Dhari’s willingness to see the violent, foreign-inspired group as essentially Iraqi and as a group one could dialogue with is startling and, I think, puts him beyond the pale in mainstream Iraqi politics …

The Origins of Big Brother in the Military/Industrial Complex
Len Hart, The Existentialist Cowboy
“Big Brother” is how Orwell depicted the totalitarian state in which human individuality, freedom, choice, and lives are subordinated to the needs of the “state”. Every means is, therefore, justified to maintain the omnipresent state in power. (…) In 1984, when Winston describes a news film of “mercenaries”, he might have been describing Blackwater in Iraq. …[a] great huge fat man trying to swim away with a helicopter after him, first you saw him wallowing along in the water like a porpoise, then you saw him through the helicopters gun sights, then he was full of holes and the sea round him turned pink and he sank as suddenly as though the holes had let in the water.” —1984, George Orwell…

Rightist MK wants Israel to annex West Bank
Benny Elon says Israel should annex West Bank and allow Palestinians to stay if they agree to become Jordanian citizens
Amnon Meranda, Ynet
National Union-NRP chairman MK Benny Elon proposed on Sunday that Israel annex the West Bank and that the Palestinians be allowed to remain there on the condition that they become Jordanian citizens. During a Jerusalem press conference, Elon unveiled a new political plan named ‘The Israeli Initiative’ which he touted as being based on “a new way of thinking that allows for real peace.”…

Talabani: 100,000 U.S. troops could leave soon
Susan Cornwell, Reuters
At least 100,000 U.S. troops could return home from Iraq by the end of 2008, Iraqi President Jalal Talabani said in an interview aired on Sunday, although he proposed that several American military bases stay in Iraq. Speaking on CNN television, Talabani envisioned faster U.S. troop reductions than U.S. commanders have discussed in public. But he stressed that the pace of withdrawal was up to those commanders and did not explain why he foresaw a faster pullout. “I think it is possible at the end of the next year that a big part of the American Army will be back here,” said Talabani, who gave the interview during a trip to the United States. “More than 100,000 (troops) can be back by the end of the next year.”…

Muwafaq Al-Rubaie and War with Russia
karlmarxwasright
Sitting in the US, I have a unique nauseating pleasure. An oxymoron, for those of you noting it. A literary oxymoron that reflects reality. Not only can I personally hear, see, touch, smell and witness the players of our homegrown, reactionary American Nazi and Fascist movement in the name of freedom and democracy, on a daily basis, but, as well, I have the opportunity to do the same with those from other countries, such as Iraq’s present reactionary restorative political project. So, on Friday, October 5, 2007, Muwafaq Al-Rubaie, Iraq’s putative National Security Advisor, a clone of OUR National Security Council, I suppose, spoke about the “Future of Iraq” at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, another famous think tank. “Think tanks” here multiply like rabbits…

THE POINT OF NO RETURN
Michael Rivero, WhatReallyHappened.com
Dictators do not appear overnight. They must gradually assume more and more power over time so that the population does not realize what is going on, or does not feel it is worthwhile to object. But to maintain control, dictators “seduce” their population into greater and greater atrocities, over time. There is more than simply acclimating the population involved to the dictator’s agenda. By tricking the population into acceptance of greater and greater atrocities, the dictator will eventually reach a position where the people will be too afraid to examine what they themselves have become. Trapped by the fear of examining themselves, such people turn into the most fanatical of the dictator’s supporters. They dare not look at the dictator’s evil for to do so is to look at their own. ..

WHO KILLED MOHAMMED
Desert Peace
Mohammed al-Dura was the first Palestinian child murdered in cold blood by Israeli forces at the beginning of the Second Intifada. He was in the arms of his father at the time, who was wounded trying to protect his son. This horror was filmed by a French TV crew and was broadcast throughout the world when it happened seven years ago. To date, the Israeli government denies it was their fault and insists that the event was ‘staged’ for the cameras… just one more lie in the long line of many… Eight hundred and fifty youngsters were murdered since little Mohammed was, but Israel focuses on this one event in an attempt to ‘clear’ their name… it won’t work!…

War Criminal
Andrew Sullivan
After reading the full investigative piece in the NYT today on how this administration decided on breaking America’s historic ban on torture and then pursued a long, corrupting policy of ensuring that the interpretation of the law was politicized to keep torture alive, it is hard to disagree with Marty Lederman: Between this and Jane Mayer’s explosive article in August about the CIA black sites, I am increasingly confident that when the history of the Bush Administration is written, this systematic violation of statutory and treaty-based law concerning fundamental war crimes and other horrific offenses will be seen as the blackest mark in our nation’s recent history — not only because of what was done, but because the programs were routinely sanctioned, on an ongoing basis, by numerous esteemed professionals — lawyers, doctors, psychologists and government officers — without whose approval such a systematized torture regime could not be sustained…

Iraqi Resistance Report for events of Saturday, 6 October 2007
Translated and/or compiled by Muhammad Abu Nasr, member, editorial board, the Free Arab Voice. www.freearabvoice.org
…In a dispatch posted at 5:22pm Makkah time Saturday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the leaders of the two most notorious Shi’i sectarian militias in US-occupied Iraq – ‘Abd al-’Aziz al-Hakim and Muqtada as-Sadr have signed an agreement on strengthening the relations between the two pro-Iranian collaborationist organizations. The agreement also provides for the formation of a joint committee to work to head off any differences between the two sectarian groups. Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the agreement provided for mutual work to avoid bloodshed between the two Shi’i sectarian gangs, members of both of which serve the US occupation in the puppet regime’s security forces. The agreement between the two sectarian militia leaders also provided for the formation of a “Supreme Joint Committee” with branches in all the provinces of Iraq to work to bring the two militias together, prevent discord, and get any disturbances that might break out under control…

Incident occurs in the Shiite district of Baladiyat. VoI also reports two killed, five injured by a car bomb in central Baghdad early on Sunday.
