An old Zionist dream: the partition of Iraq
Gabriele Zamparini, The Cat’s Dream
Finally the Imperial Senate calls for Iraq’s partition. US lawmakers voted Wednesday to split Iraq into a loose federation of sectarian-based regions and urged President George W Bush to press Iraqi leaders to agree. The proposal came from Senator Joseph Biden, the smart-ass who heads the chamber’s foreign relations committee and is running for the 2008 Democratic Party presidential nomination. A few months ago, Sen. Biden, interviewed by Shalom TV, an American mainstream Jewish cable television network, called Israel “the single greatest strength America has in the Middle East”. “I am a Zionist,” stated Senator Biden. “You don’t have to be a Jew to be a Zionist.” We know the Israel Lobby is not a very convincing thesis, at least for Noam Chomsky. So, let’s talk about coincidences. In 1982, Israel Shahak, a professor at Hebrew University in Jerusalem and chairman of the Israeli League for Human and Civil Rights, wrote: The idea that all the Arab states should be broken down, by Israel, into small units, occurs again and again in Israeli strategic thinking…

FLASHBACK: The Zionist conspiracy to divide the Arab states into small units
The *FREE ARAB VOICE*
In 1982 the Hebrew-language magazine Kivunim (Directions), the official organ of the World Zionist Organization published an important article entitled, “A Strategy for Israel in the Nineteen Eighties”. The Editor of Kivunim is Yoram Beck, Head of Publications, Department of Information, of the World Zionist Organization. Also on the Editorial Committee of Kivunim is Amnon Hadary, a member of the Palmach during the 1948 atrocities. Israel Shahak, professor of organic chemistry at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, and chairman of the Israeli League for Human and Civil Rights translated the article into English and wrote the following foreword to it. It was published in 1982 as a pamphlet by the Association of Arab-American University graduates. Professor Shahak states: The following essay represents, in my opinion, the accurate and detailed plan of the present Zionist regime for the Middle East which is based on the division of the whole area into small states, and the dissolution of all the existing Arab states. I will comment on the military aspect of this plan in a concluding note…

Joe’s Borrowed Idea: Split Iraq into Three Pieces
Kurt Nimmo
It is, to say the least, a predictable outcome, one that dovetails nicely with the neocon master plan. “US lawmakers voted Wednesday to split Iraq into a loose federation of sectarian-based regions and urged President George W Bush to press Iraqi leaders to agree,” reports Monsters and Critics. “More than 20 Republicans joined Democrats to pass the non-binding measure in the Senate, 75-23, showing frustration in both parties about Bush’s war policy and lagging national reconciliation in Iraq.” How anybody expects “national reconciliation” in a country—or the mere shadow of a country—bombed to kingdom come is not explained, not that it matters, as splintering Iraq into three distinct pieces harks back to the earliest Israeli planners, or maybe I should say criminal connivers. “This is not a new idea, nor does it surface for the first time in Zionist strategic thinking,” writes Khalil Nakhleh. “Indeed, fragmenting all Arab states into smaller units has been a recurrent theme. This theme has been documented on a very modest scale in the AAUG publication, Israel’s Sacred Terrorism (1980), by Livia Rokach

The partition of Iraq
LENIN’S TOMB
From Ireland, Palestine, India, and Cyprus to Yugoslavia, and beyond, the old imperial idea has never lost its appeal. I told you this would happen. Several times, I think I recall. Well, the Senate has passed a bill on a strongly bipartisan basis to partition Iraq into three autonomous zones. If this goes through and there is a serious effort to implement it, then the ethnic cleansing and civil wars you have seen to date will look like a teddy bears’ picnic…

Iraqi Resistance Report for events of Wednesday, 26 September 2007.
Translated and/or compiled by Muhammad Abu Nasr, member, editorial board, the Free Arab Voice. www.freearabvoice.org
…In a dispatch posted on its Arabic website at 4:23pm Wednesday afternoon Beijing time, the Xinhua News Agency reported that US forces carried out an airborne landing in the village of Bahbahan in the Jurf as-Sakhr area near al-Musayyib, about 70km south of Baghdad at dawn on Wednesday. Xinhua reported a source in the al-Musayyib puppet police as saying that after the American raid, the police found the bodies of nine people, all members of one family who had been killed when an American helicopter gunship blasted their home. The source said that the US troops also raided the Nawwaf al-Wakka’ Mosque in the Jurf as-Sakhr area. There the Americans killed the Imam, Shayh Hasan Muhammad al-Jannabi, the source said without offering any further details. The source added, however, that the Americans also demolished another house during their raid, but since that building was vacant at the time, there were no casualties…

Why Are You Here?
Leila Fadel, Baghdad Observer
The young man on television was probably 16 years old. But he looked so young, his face chubby with baby fat, his lips poised in a child’s pout. “Why are you here,” the Vice President of Iraq, Tariq al Hashemi, asked. “I don’t know,” he said. “They hit me and hit me and hit me until they made me admit to something I haven’t done. What can I do?” Hashemi was visiting the Iraqi prison for juveniles with camera men. He asked them to film (…) The camera panned through a narrow hallway where hundreds of young teen-age boys sat. Those Hashemi spoke to all had visible signs of abuse on their body. One showed acid burns on his back, another lifted his sleeves, and his shirt to show the purple and red bruising all over his body. It aired on Sharqiya, an Iraqi station that has been banned from having an office in Iraq because it is anti-government. To the question, “Why are you here?” They all answered “I don’t know.”…

Disappointments
Xymphora
The old stalwarts are disappointing me. First, Engdahl unnecessarily explains his abandonment of the silly ‘Peak Oil’ theory by taking up the still very controversial – some would say ‘flaky’ – Russian theories concerning the creation of oil. The Russians may well be right, but Peak Oil falls on its own. There’s tons of oil around. In the United States itself, there is enough oil in the oil shales to satisfy current levels of American requirements for over 100 years. The problem is cost of production. Let me state it clearly: the reason why the American Establishment agreed to the attack on Iraq, an attack they knew was going to be a disaster and would indeed lead to insecurity over Middle East oil supplies, was to force the price per barrel of oil up over the amount where exploitation of the Canadian oil sands would become economically viable…

Abbas: Don’t cross the red-lines
Khalid Amayreh, thepeoplesvoice.org
Like most Palestinians, I don’t count much on Mahmoud Abbas to put up a meaningful resistance to Israel’s persistent attempts to obtain a formal Palestinian recognition of it as “a state of and for the Jews.” This is why it is extremely important that the Palestinian masses tell this man that he is already going too far in sacrificing vital Palestinian national interests in order to appease the explicitly fascist government of Israel. A few days ago, Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert told reporters that he had already received a commitment from Abbas to recognize Israel as “a state of the Jews.”…

Arabs criticise U.S. Senate resolution on Iraq
Reuters
The Arab League and an Iraqi vice president criticised on Thursday a U.S. Senate resolution advocating the division of Iraq into federal regions. Ali al-Jaroush, the head of the Arab relations department at the Cairo-based league, said the idea was “hostile to Arab interests” and the best response would be to help the Iraqi people drive occupying forces out of the country. The non-binding Senate amendment, sponsored by Delaware Democrat Joe Biden and passed on Wednesday, says the United States should actively support a political settlement among Iraqis based on a federal system of government…

Saudi FM warns against dividing Iraq, Iran’s interference
Voices of Iraq
Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud al-Faisal warned against the partition of Iraq and the regional interference, mainly Iran, in its internal affairs, urging the Shiite clerics in Iraq to work toward achieving “national accord” in the country. Speaking to reporters and media men on the sidelines of the 62nd session of the United National General Assembly (UNGA) on Wednesday night and quoted by Saudi news agency “any attempt to divide Iraqi represents a serious threat as it will ignite conflicts in the region.” “Any foreign interference in Iraq does not help in establishing peace in the country, but on the contrary it increases dangerous,” the prince said “Iranians themselves acknowledged that they are interfering in Iraq’s domestic affairs and we heard Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadi Nejad says that his country is ready to fill any vacancy that will appear after the U.S. withdrawal from Iraq. Such statements are very dangerous,” he noted…

Mansour: IOF troops exploit world silence to violate immunity of Palestinian MPs
Palestinian Information Center
Yasser Mansour, a member of the Hamas-affiliated change and reform parliamentary bloc, stated on Wednesday that the IOF troops take advantage of the international silence to violate the immunity of Palestinian MPs and to assault them. During a meeting with his lawyer, Mansour, who is imprisoned in the Israeli Megiddo prison, denounced the IOF troops for storming the house of MP Mariam Saleh in Ramallah and kidnapping her journalist son Abdurrahman Musleh. The imprisoned MP stated that the IOA continues to detain nearly 40 Palestinian MPs affiliated with Hamas, Fatah and the Popular Front in a clear indication that they consider all the Palestinian national programs an enemy deserving oppression and elimination…

America’s police brutality pandemic
Paul Craig Roberts, Online Journal Guest Writer
Bush’s “war on terror” quickly became Bush’s war on Iraqi civilians. So far over one million Iraqi civilians have lost their lives because of Bush’s invasion, and four million have been displaced. Iraq’s infrastructure is in ruins. Disease is rampant. Normal life has disappeared. Self-righteous Americans justify these monstrous crimes as necessary to ensure their own safety from terrorist attack. Yet, Americans are in far greater danger from their own police forces than they are from foreign terrorists. Ironically, Bush’s “war on terror” has made Americans less safe at home by diminishing US civil liberties and turning an epidemic of US police brutality into a pandemic…

Gaza Strip families denied reunion by Israeli authorities
Maan News
Israel informed the Palestinian Authority on Wednesday of a decision to deprive families in the Gaza Strip of reunion with members on the outside. Director of civil affairs in the Palestinian interior ministry, Hussein Ash-Sheikh, confirmed reports, he said, “We were surprised by the news and received no reasonable explanation for this collective punishment.” Israel promised the PA that it would reconsider the cases of more than 50,000 families that applied for reunion. However, this consideration seems to have been restricted to cases from the West Bank and decisions have taken a long time to be agreed…

APR – The Attacks on Some Mosques in Basra
Association of Muslim Scholars in Iraq (AMSI)
Sectarian militias attacked and blew up Zubair Mosque today and yesterday 26 September 2007, Wednesday causing 13 worshippers martyred and wounded. Those terrorist militias also attacked to another mosque in Basra which led one of the mosque guard martyred. To raise the sectarian rifts in this socially coherent city at this particular time shows that the suspicious parties in the city are trying to make trouble between the sons of this province. With this plan they want to extend their influences on the city and exploit the chaos to obtain regional and international achievements for the benefit of suspected foreigners. The Association of Muslim Scholars in Iraq (AMSI) condemns these criminal acts which affected people of this city and the mosques…

Iraqi, U.S. forces raid military academy
Reuters
Iraqi and U.S. special forces raided Iraq’s military academy in eastern Baghdad on Tuesday and arrested people suspected of murder, kidnap and supplying weapons to criminals, the U.S. military said on Wednesday. “The individuals detained had allegedly used security personnel to murder, kidnap and conduct attacks using improvised explosive devices and EFPs (explosively formed penetrators),” spokesman Major-General Kevin Bergner said. Getting Iraqi police and army units trained and equipped to maintain security is a key challenge for U.S. forces in Iraq and one of the factors likely to determine when it can scale back troop numbers…
