30 December 2006 – a day of infamy
Gabriele Zamparini, The cat’s dream
30 December 2006 will be remembered as a day of infamy. In violation of international law and human decency, the quisling government of occupied Iraq, a puppet, sectarian regime installed by the American occupation and supported by Iran, assassinated the legitimate President of the Republic of Iraq, Saddam Hussein. It’s been reported that after his execution the assassins shouted: “Long live Muqtada, Long live Muqtada” [Moqtada Al-Sadr] It’s also been reported that Saddam Hussein was tortured before his execution and his body was mutilated afterwards. Another source tells us: “The video shows no blood on Saddam’s face and body, TV aired video of the body showed blood, cuts and bruises on the face.” (…) After the initial silence on the real scale of the horror in Iraq, when the Iraq Body Count figures were used even by the antiwar movement in spite the apocalypse was already known and after the ongoing silence on the responsibility of the sectarian militias in mass murdering and ethnic cleansing, this other silence on the lynching of Saddam Hussein raises once again fundamental questions on the role of the Western left and the anti-war movement and forces each of us to an unpleasant but honest and necessary reflection. If a better world is possible, it starts at home…

Saddam Hussein, The Martyr of the Arab people
Dyab Abou JAhjah, Arab-European League
…I am a Shi’a Arab and according to CNN and BBC I am supposed to be cheering the death of Saddam, but instead I am feeling a deep sense of sorrow and sympathy with him that I never had before. Saddam might have been a dictator, but today he is the martyr of the Arab people and of the Arab resistance not only in Iraq, but also in Palestine and in Lebanon. Yes Saddam died as a martyr to his Nation and as a resistance leader in captivity. He walked proudly towards his fate without compromising with the occupier and in my book this alone makes him a hero and this alone makes me forget anything he might have inflicted upon my people. The martyrdom of Saddam was meant to be a poisoned present from Bush and his puppets in Iraq to the Arabs and the Muslims on this Eid Holliday, and they maybe missed the meaning of this Islamic Holliday. The Eid al Adha is the feast of Sacrifice where Muslims celebrate the sacrifice made by Abraham to save his Son Ismael. The symbolism of this is paramount, as Martyrdom is conceived as a sacrifice to save the Nation and its freedom…

2007 unhappy year for the invaders: From Omar Mukhtar to Saddam Hussein…The resistance continues
Roads to Iraq
Win or die. The occupiers have to fight the next generation and each generations, my life will be longer than the life of my will be longer than the life of the executioners………(Omar Mukhtar)
I never been one of Saddam supporters, I was against Saddam’s policy but honesty required to say the truth: Despite his mistakes, Saddam never betrayed his people, never collaborated with the invaders, and said a big “NO” to the American hegemony. US body-bags industry will continues, invaders airplanes will fall, armored vehicles keep explodes as long as there is a single foreign soldier on the Iraqi soil…

The Black Bull died today
Mirza Yawar Baig, Information Clearing House
They did it. They gave this Ummah a sacrifice on the day of Eid ul Adha. What an unforgettable Eid!! A human sacrifice. Not a sheep or goat. What a message!! Wow!! What a powerful message that I am sure has shaken all the thrones of the puppets who are watching the events. Poor puppets!! Saddam Hussain, they say, is dead. The news reporting is one good example of the pimp press in full swing. If anyone who is not suffering from amnesia can recall, ‘Weapons of Mass Destruction’ was a phrase coined by American foreign policy experts to lie to their own nation and the world and justify their invasion of Iraq. Then their lie was exposed but by then their objective of looting Iraq’s oil had also been accomplished. They had control of the oil fields. And in the process a few hundred thousand Iraqis died at the hands of Americans; well that is inevitable – collateral damage…

A Lynching…
Riverbend, Bagdad burning
…We thought we’d at least get a few days of peace and some time to enjoy the Eid holiday, which coincides with the New Year this year. We’ve spent the first two days of a holy holiday watching bits and pieces of a sordid lynching. America the savior… After nearly four years and Bush’s biggest achievement in Iraq has been a lynching. Bravo Americans. And no- not the celebrations BBC are claiming. With the exception of a few areas, the streets are empty (…) Muwafaq Al Rubai was said he was “weak and frightened”. Apparently, Rubai saw a different lynching because according to the video they leaked, he didn’t look frightened at all. His voice didn’t shake and he refused to put on the black hood. He looked resigned to his fate, and during the heckling he looked as defiant as ever. (It’s quite a contrast to Muhsin Abdul Hameed’s public hysterics last year when the Americans raided his home.) It’s one thing to have militias participating in killings. This is allegedly the democracy the Americans flaunt. Is this how bloodthirsty and frightening we’ve become? Is this what Iraq stands for now?…

The Spectacle of the Noose
Gilad Atzmon, peacepalestine
Indeed we live in a global village, in a sealed monolithic ghetto in which medieval pornographic images of barbarism travel around the world at the speed of light for our consumption. Looped images of executed Saddam have been looping for a day or so on every news network. We are supposed to be cheered by the victory of ‘justice’ nevertheless we all know that whatever has been performed in front of our eyes is nothing but banal retribution. We are well aware that it has nothing to do with Justice. Not only was the trial a farce, if there are persons who should be locked behind bars, they should be the perpetrators of the war. We are now learning as well that we had better admit that we had been deluded and misled by the notion of liberal democracy; a modern Western political precept that originally portrayed itself as a great promise. We have been clearly dragged into some very dark era that will be remembered as a global manifestation, a unique form of evil far beyond banality. While Saddam is on the verge of becoming a martyr, his executors, Bush and Blair, have already secured their place in the premiere league of war criminals…

Iraqi Resistance Report for events of Sunday, 31 December 2006.
Translated and/or compiled by Muhammad Abu Nasr, member, editorial board, the Free Arab Voice
…In a dispatch posted at 3pm Makkah time Sunday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that Shaykh Mahmud al-Hasan, one of the shaykhs of the al-Bu Nasir tribe, to which martyred Iraqi president Saddam Husayn belonged, said that the body of the Iraqi President was kicked and beaten after his death by the puppet regime officials and their guests who attended the “execution” in Baghdad on Saturday. The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported that in an exclusive interview in Tikrit following the funeral of the martyred President, al-Hasan said that the body had been received by the leader of the tribe ‘Ali an-Nida and Muhammad al-Qaysi the puppet “Governor” of Salah ad-Din Province in the presence of ‘Abd al-Karim al-’Anazi, a member of the Shi’i Alliance political coalition and a national security adviser to the puppet regime…

Yet another milestone – 3000

Saddam – the Sacrificial Lion
The Truth Will Set You Free
…Personally, I never did like Saddam Hussein and I was always told he was a liar and a tyrant, and I believed it. I was told that he was a bad man. I studied the WMD evidence, the Dujail trial, and the evidence at Halabja and was expecting a lot more to come of something that could justify my hatred of this person. Sadly, with all the facts at our disposal now, I have no rational option but to pen this eulogy to one of the greatest Arabs, Saddam Hussein Al-Majid Al-Tikriti Al-Iraqi – the Lion of Baghdad and the Pride of Mesopotamia and Arabia…

Fox News Pundit: Civil War In Iraq Is ‘Positive,’ Shows America Is ‘Winning’
Think Progress
Today on Fox News’s Your World with Neil Cavuto, guest host Stuart Varney tried to “put out something positive about Iraq.” He suggested that since Iraq is “now fighting itself,” America is “in a way, winning and preserving our interests.” STUART VARNEY: Well, let me put out something positive about Iraq, if I may for a second. Look, we took the fight to the enemy. We divided the enemy. The enemy is now fighting itself. America’s interest is surely being well-preserved and well-protected. We are in a fact, in a way, winning and preserving our interests.

Two Thousand Years Later, the Story of Issa Renewed
Ibrahim Ebeid, Al-Moharer.net
…The enemies of Iraq, The Chalabis, the Talabanis and the Barazanis, Abdul Aziz Al Hakim Al Tabtabai, Moqtada Al Sadr, Karim Shapur, Al Maliki and all the commanders of the sectarian militias and the Death Squads were dancing in Jubilation for killing Iraq and its symbol. While you Mr. President sent a message of love and forgiveness when you said to your followers and to the Iraqi people: Remember that God has enabled you to become an example of love, forgiveness and brotherly co-existence… I call on you not to hate because hate does not leave a space for a person to be fair and it makes you blind and closes all doors of thinking and keeps away one from balanced thinking and making the right choice … I also call on you not to hate the peoples of the other countries that attacked us and differentiate between the decision-makers and peoples… Yes Mr. President, you will remain dear to us, to every Arab, to every Muslim and to every believer in freedom and human dignity in the World. Rest in peace and May God Bless your soul…

Insults on the gallows for Saddam
Reuters
…The jerky web footage, apparently shot on a mobile phone by a guard or one of about 20 official observers at the dawn hanging, showed people in the execution chamber chanting the name of Shiite cleric and militia leader Moqtada al-Sadr and Saddam smiling back, saying: “Is this what you call manhood?” Seemingly accusing his captors of misrule, he replied to the taunt of “Go to hell” by asking: “The hell that is Iraq?” After he falls through the trap, abruptly cut off in his recitation of the Muslim profession of faith, someone in the room cries “The tyrant has fallen!” (…) Yesterday in Awja, where Saddam was born in fatherless poverty in 1937, hundreds of mourners flocked to his freshly dug tomb inside a marble-floored hall built by Saddam. Many others attended a ceremony in the Great Saddam Mosque in Tikrit. Many poured out their anger against the Americans and the Shiite majority now in the ascendancy in Iraq’s Government. “The Persians have killed him. I can’t believe it. By God, we will take revenge,” said one man from Mosul, referring to Iraq’s new leaders ties to Persian-speaking, Shiite Iran…

U.S. suffers 3,000th casualty with New Year
Claudia Parsons, Reuters
U.S. troops began the New Year with news their 3,000th comrade had died since a 2003 invasion that toppled Saddam Hussein in weeks but pitched them into a war that has riven Iraq and raised increasing alarm at home. With Saddam’s hanging on Saturday polarising the country, there is no sign that the sectarian bloodletting will slow. The death toll milestone was reported on Sunday by the Web site, www.icasualties.org. It listed the death of Specialist Dustin Donica on Dec. 28 together with a soldier killed by a roadside bomb in Baghdad on Saturday, bringing the total to 3,000…

Saddam buried next to sons
AP & AFP
Saddam Hussein was buried early today in his home village of Awjah in northern Iraq after he was hanged for crimes against humanity, a member of his family said. “Saddam Hussein has been buried today at 4:00 a.m. (06:30 IST) in a place that was constructed during his regime in the centre of Awjah,” said Mr Musa Faraj, one of Saddam’s relatives from the area. Mr Faraj said the building where Saddam was buried was a hall usually used for condolence meetings in Awjah, 180 km north of Baghdad. His sons Uday and Qusay, killed by US troops in Mosul in July 2003, are also buried in Awjah. He said the burial was attended by the governor of Salaheddin province, Mr Hamed al Shakti and Mr Ali al Nida, chief of Saddam’s tribe of Albu Nasir and many other members of the tribe…

And the Empire Mourned…
Dissecting the Big Lie
Jason Miller, Thomas Paine’s Corner
With the intensity of Dale Earnhardt, Jr vying for victory in the Daytona 500, America’s mainstream media outlets have been racing furiously to imbue the citizenry of the Empire with unusually large doses of heavily choreographed agitprop. Another unindicted US war criminal has casually ridden off into a peaceful crimson sunset. In response, pundits, talking heads, reporters and various other infotainment personnel are working feverishly to perpetuate America’s collective delusion that we embody integrity, decency, and enlightened values. Like virtually all of his predecessors and successors in the White House (regardless of their party affiliation), Gerald Ford was guilty of a host of egregious offenses against the human race. But the Big Lie must not die…

Sectarian Saddam Insults Rile Middle East
Sound on Video of Shiites Mocking Saddam Hussein Before His Hanging Likely to Fuel Sunni Anger
TERRY McCARTHY
The latest video of Saddam’s execution, with a soundtrack that shows that his guards were taunting him up to the last moment before the lever was pulled and he fell to his death, has been burning through cyberspace in Iraq and across the Middle East. It is not only the bad taste of mocking a man about to die that has been getting angry reactions here: The worst aspect is the sectarian nature of the insults. The guards shout “Moqtada, Moqtada,” as Saddam is reciting a prayer with the noose around his neck: They are referring to Moqtada al Sadr, the extremist Shiite cleric whose Mahdi Army is the most feared militia in Iraq, widely thought to operate death squads targeting Sunnis…

A Saudi view: Saddam execution signals Iranian hegemony in Iraq
Arablinks.blogspot.com
…The journalist also cites a person he calls a “Gulf commentator” speaking from Dubai, who put the case this way: “The Iranian-American agenda probably came together in a way that is unlikely to be repeated in coming years”, in the sense that Bush is hoping the execution of Saddam will somehow turn things around for him, while Iran, for its part, “deepened its control over internal Iraqi affairs via these “sectarian bonds”. And the Gulf commentator went on to elaborate in this way: “If Iranian hegemony is really implanted [in Iraq]— and that phase has begun to be evident—then it is incumbent on all the political activists in the country [to realize] that we will be facing a ‘Sunni holocaust’ (the journalist’s quotation marks), and any whiff of civil war will mean assured Sunni victims”…

Iraqi Resistance Report for events of Saturday, 30 December 2006
Translated and/or compiled by Muhammad Abu Nasr, member, editorial board, the Free Arab Voice
…Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the US-installed Iraqi puppet regime had agreed with Shi’i sectarian religious authorities to change the date of the Islamic ‘Id al-Adha festival to Sunday to allow themselves the opportunity of executing the Iraqi President before the start of festivities. Iraqis widely denounced the acceleration of the execution and the manipulation of the religious holiday and accelerating the execution. In a dispatch posted at 10:30am Baghdad time Saturday morning, the Iraqi Organization for Follow Up and Observation, “Mi’mar,” reported that the organization had information indicating that the hurriedly arranged execution of the Iraqi President was in response to an American demand that Saddam Husayn be killed before the end of the year 2006 and that the Iranian regime in Tehran wanted him killed at the start of the ‘Id al-Adha holiday. In a dispatch posted at 12:59pm Makkah time Saturday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported a source in the puppet “Ministry of Justice” in the American-installed regime in Baghdad had said that the execution of the Iraqi President took place in the presence of ‘Abd al-’Aziz al-Hakim, the chief of the pro-American Shi’i sectarian organization called the “Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq” (SCIRI) whose armed wing, the Badr Brigades took part in the American invasion of Iraq in 2003 and now form the backbone of the pu! ppet reg ime’s security forces…
