Running out of Lifeboats: A Titanic Disaster
Felicity Arbuthnot
Were not the immensity of the scale of Iraq’s tragedy – a wickedness of near unparallelled historic proportions, surely to be the legacy of George W.Bush and Anthony Blair Q.C., for all time – it would be amusing to watch the neo-cons and their London lackeys leaping into the lifeboats and rowing frantically away from the terminally holed titanic project, leaving the maimed political corpses of the deluded duo to sink with the ship. (…) The U.S., and U.K., say Intelligence sources, now face an unprecedented risk of terrorist attacks. ‘Before September 11th 2001', writes one commentator: ‘No one had crossed the Atlantic carrying weapons (against America) except the Westerners who established the U.S.A. Yet America has (crossed numerous boundaries) bringing death and destruction against the world.’’The world will deal with the U.S., in respect and love when they see (the same) in America’s relations with them. The world will then live in peace and not on the edge of an abyss.’ (2) Ironically, the writer was Saddam Hussein, who may well (illegally) hang, but, it seems, is sinking two governments. As political wits are saying wryly : ‘I-R-A-Q : I Remember Another Quagmire.’…

Congratulations to Iraq on a victorious month
Truth About Iraqis
I am congratulating all the Iraqis who celebrated the death sentence passed down to Saddam Hussein. I am congratulating all the Iraqis who cheered when the US troops rolled into Baghdad. I am congratulating all the Iraqis who live snug and secure in the Green Zone. I am congratulating all the Iraqis who came back to rebuild the country, to set up contracts and deals with foreign businesses. Congratulations on your victory. Congratulations on your freedom. You have not yet tasted anything. The violence you see, the death you see, the carnage you see, is but one fraction of a fraction of a fraction of what is to come. Celebrate you victorious Iraqis. You have still learned nothing. Celebrate…

Democrats Blame Iraqis for U.S. Induced Misery
Kurt Nimmo
Steny Hoyer, nicknamed “boy wonder,” is speaking tough to the besieged Iraqis. Hoyer, as incoming House Majority Leader, wants the Iraqis to understand they only have themselves to blame for all the murder and misery in their country. “In the days ahead, the Iraqis must make the tough decisions and accept responsibility for their future,” said Hoyer during the weekly Democratic radio address. “And the Iraqis must know: Our commitment, while great, is not unending.” “Once in power, Hoyer said, the Democrats hope to work with Republicans and the Bush administration to change direction in Iraq war plans,” reports ABC News. Please note: Hoyer didn’t say the Democrats will end the “war” in Iraq. He said they will work with the Bush administration, that is to say the perfidious neocons. All of this should be nothing new. Democrats have repeatedly expressed their approval of decimating Iraq and reducing it to a depleted uranium wasteland where, one day, the living will envy the dead. Last November, for instance, the Democrats voted their approval, by a 37 to 6 margin, for a Republican amendment in support of the neocon policy on the Iraq war…

Resist, persist , and you don’t even have to sign.
Layla Anwar
What is resistance? Resistance is not only about taking up arms. Bless those who have the guts to do so. Pray for them. They are the pure from amongst us. Putting their lives on the front line , risking it all, losing it all sometimes. Yes bless them because only a few have what it takes. But there are also other forms of resistance. And trust me you don’t need to sign your name either. It is all recorded, your name, address and date of birth. All you need to do is join us. Join us in spirit, join us in soul, join us with your words, with your letters, with your cries, with your exclamations, with your tears, with your sighs … It does not matter, just join us. You give us strength even if you don’t know it. It is all recorded. It is recorded in Iraq, Palestine, Afghanistan, Lebanon . We forget no one. We are the spears and the arrows and you are the archers…

Iraq’s Palestinians in bull’s-eye
Ken Ellingwood,
Palestinians in Iraq, many of whom fled here as refugees more than half a century ago, are on the run again. The sectarian violence convulsing the country has raised worries about the fate of the roughly 20,000 Palestinians in Iraq, targeted by kidnappers and Shiite Muslim death squads because of what many Iraqis see as the group’s favored status under former President Saddam Hussein. Community leaders say more than 60 Palestinians have been killed since early last year, and thousands have left the country. Many of the Palestinians who have stayed behind, mainly in Baghdad, have been chased from their homes and taken refuge in a largely Palestinian neighborhood here called Baladiyat. “We are living in a state of fear,” said Lena Shaheen, 27, who fled the mainly Shiite Doura neighborhood with her family in September after gunmen announced through loudspeakers that Palestinian residents had 72 hours to get out…

Question: Why are the SCIRI Mehdi Death Squads killing Palestinians?
Truth About Iraqis
Because they are agents of Iran. Iran is NOT an Arab country and is using so-called Shia persians who have sold Iraq. These are not to be confused with the Shia Arabs who are nationalistic and love Iraq. By default, Iran is an agent of Israel. Palestinians killed by Iraqis? Palestinians killed by Israelis…

Iraqi Resistance Report for events of Saturday, 25 November 2006
Translated and/or compiled by Muhammad Abu Nasr, member, editorial board, the Free Arab Voice
…In a dispatch posted at 6:20pm Makkah time Saturday evening, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the completely charred body of a small boy no more than four years old was found in Baghdad on Saturday morning. The small boy was a victim of the pro-Iranian Shi’i sectarian Jaysh al-Mahdi militia rampages on Friday. The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported al-Hajjah Qismah Muhammad, the grandmother of the boy as saying that his name was ‘Umar ‘Abdallah ad-Dulaymi. He lived in the Baghdad district of al-Hurriyah al-Ula. “’Umar was playing by the door of his house when the sectarian gangs attacked the area and then we lost him,” al-Hajjah Qismah said. “We looked for him all day yesterday and today among the charred piles of Sunni martyrs but couldn’t find him,” she said. “Then one of our neighbors found him this afternoon in the ad-Dabbash neighborhood near the Ahl at-Tanak area where they sell fuel and which is controlled by the Jaysh al-Mahdi.” The bereaved grandmother described how the body of her young grandson was completely burned…

Baghdad Braces For More Reprisals
Cellphones and Web Spread Threats, Fear
Sudarsan Raghavan and Nancy Trejos, Washington Post Foreign Service
…Despite a government-imposed curfew, Iraqis described Shiite militiamen murdering Sunnis at checkpoints, controlling neighborhoods with impunity and conspiring with Iraq’s majority-Shiite police force, which the Interior Ministry controls. Other Iraqis spoke of mortar shells raining on their mosques and gun battles outside their houses, deepening their mistrust of Iraq’s security forces and elected politicians. Over the past two days, warnings have spread through messages delivered to the cellphones of Sunni Muslims. In Arabic, they read: “Very big armed groups are being formed in Sadr City, backed up by the Interior Ministry, to kill great numbers of the citizens of Baghdad once the curfew is lifted. Spread the word among our people.” It signed off: “A reliable source.”…

Al-Sadr loyalists take over Iraqi television station
Hannah Allam and Mohamed al Dulaimy, McClatchy Newspapers
Followers of the militant Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr took over state-run television Saturday to denounce the Iraqi government, label Sunnis “terrorists” and issue what appeared to many viewers as a call to arms. The two-hour broadcast from a community gathering in the heart of the Shiite militia stronghold of Sadr City included three members of al-Sadr’s parliamentary bloc, who took questions from outraged residents demanding revenge for a series of car bombings that killed some 200 people Thursday. With Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki relegated to the sidelines, brazen Sunni-Shiite attacks continue unchecked despite a 24-hour curfew over Baghdad. Al-Sadr’s Mahdi Army militia now controls wide swaths of the capital, his politicians are the backbone of the Cabinet, and his followers deeply entrenched in the Iraqi security forces (…) Militia leaders told supporters Saturday to prepare for a fresh wave of incursions into Sunni neighborhoods that would begin as soon as the curfew ends Monday, according to Sadr City residents. Several members of the Mahdi Army boasted they were distributing police uniforms throughout Shiite neighborhoods to allow greater freedom of movement…

Zionism: Pitting the West Against Islam
M. Shahid Alam, www.dissidentvoice.org
It is tempting to celebrate the creation of Israel as a great triumph, perhaps the greatest in Jewish history. Indeed, the history of Israel has often been read as the heroic saga of a people marked for extinction, who emerged from Nazi death camps — from Auschwitz, Belzec and Treblinka — to establish their own state in 1948, a Jewish haven and a democracy that has prospered even as it has defended itself valiantly against unceasing Arab threats and aggression. Without taking away anything from the sufferings of European Jews, I will insist that this way of thinking about Israel — apart from its mythologizing — has merit only as a partisan narrative. It seeks to insulate Israel against the charge of a devastating colonization by falsifying history, by camouflaging the imperialist dynamics that brought it into existence, and denying the perilous future with which it now confronts the Jews, the West and the Islamic world…

IS IT CIVIL WAR YET?
Malcom Lagauche
Let’s look at a few statements made in the media of the last few days about the situation in Iraq. * There is no civil war in Iraq * The country could move toward civil war * Iraq’s Shiite prime minister, struggling to prevent widespread violence from sending Iraq into a full-fledged civil war * Sectarian strife is the cause of the latest violence in Iraq * Iraq is teetering on the brink of civil war. These are just a few of the statements we read every day about Iraq. A bunch of words that represent denial. What are the criteria for a civil war? Who is the scorekeeper? When does “sectarian strife” turn into a civil war?…

Rumsfeld okayed abuses says former U.S. general
Reuters
Outgoing Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld authorized the mistreatment of detainees at Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq, the prison’s former U.S. commander said in an interview on Saturday. Former U.S. Army Brigadier General Janis Karpinski told Spain’s El Pais newspaper she had seen a letter apparently signed by Rumsfeld which allowed civilian contractors to use techniques such as sleep deprivation during interrogation. Karpinski, who ran the prison until early 2004, said she saw a memorandum signed by Rumsfeld detailing the use of harsh interrogation methods…

More US Troops Dying in Anbar Province
Lolita C. Baldor, The Associated Press
In the three months since thousands of US forces poured into Baghdad to quash escalating violence, far more American troops have died in the volatile western Anbar province than in the capital city. More than two-thirds of the 245 US casualties between Aug. 7, the start of the Baghdad offensive, and Nov. 7 occurred outside Baghdad – which military leaders have called the “center of gravity” of Iraq, and the key to success in the war. Four in 10 deaths over those three months have been in Anbar province, a Sunni insurgency stronghold where US Marines have largely taken the lead. Marines, who comprise only about 15 percent of the 141,000 US forces currently in Iraq, accounted for nearly 28 percent of the fatalities over the three-month period…

Bloodbath in the no “Law and Order” country
Treasure of Baghdad
Reprisal killings continue in the no “Law and Order” country. Iraqi civilians wake up on sounds of bombs, shootings, mortars and the screams of children and women. The Fearful Iraqis spent sleepless nights guarding their homes and asking who would be next after gunmen attacked mosques and burned homes in Sunni areas on Friday following the worst bomb attack since the U.S. occupation in 2003. “Everybody is worried,” said my father whom I called yesterday. “We have gathered all our documents as we may escape from the house at any moment,” he added. My mother said that our neighborhood and the surrounding neighborhoods are attacked by mortar shells hitting houses randomly (…) Azzaman newspaper reported that the Mahdi Army militiamen kidnapped several Sunni young men in Jamila neighborhood on Friday. They executed in 83 Square in Talbiya neighborhood after they gathered people to watch the execution. The paper also reported that residents of al-Hurriya neighborhood were attacked by the militiamen in front of police and security forces who did nothing to prevent the killings…

HUSHED UP ATTACK ON GAZA SCHOOL BUS
DesertPeace
Israel is hiding behind a mask. A mask that hides its true face to the world; the face of a psychotic murderer. In some areas it would be referred to as a serial killer.. one that systimatically murders one particular type… in this case innocent children. This particular incident occurred just two days before 22 people were murdered in Beit Hanoun… you would think that this beast would ‘lie low’ for a period of time… not so in this case… they just put on their mask and continued their killing spree hoping no one would find out…
Well… their cover has been blown! Once again they have been exposed as the murderer they are… They have again been unmasked exposing the face of the real monster they are…

Iraq events: 25 Nov 2006
Roads to Iraq
– Reported through an a witness that the cars used in Sadr-City explosion came from Iran, after police investigated the cars remains, it seems that the cars are few from 65 cars imported 10 days ago from Iran to Basra port. Seized by Iraqi customs police but later Al-Amri [leader of Badr terrorist organization] ordered the release of the cars. There are rumors that the operation was done in cooperation with the US forces, eyewitnesses say they saw an American Helicopter flying above the area an hour before the explosion. – As results of the explosion, violence increased against Sunni neighborhoods in Baghdad, supported by Iraqi government police. Sunnis were burned alive in many districts, an eyewitness was interviewed by Al-Jazeera describes what he saw…

Human Rights Watch versus Gandhi
Xymphora
The increasingly obvious Human Rights Watch has officially come out against the Palestinian use of peaceful non-resistance against the daily attacks of Israel. It was becoming too effective, and had to be stopped. Meanwhile, the Zionists have been kept busy rejecting not one, but two, peace proposals in recent days. The first, put forward by Spain, France and Italy, was rejected because it was not co-ordinated with the EU or Israel (i. e., they didn’t say ‘Simon says’ before proposing it). You’d think that a country supposedly preoccupied with ‘existential threats’ would jump at any peace plan, but you would be wrong. The second proposal was from the Palestinians, who offered to stop firing rockets into Israel, if Israel ends attacks on Palestinians that have been justified on the basis of stopping the rocket attacks (…) The vicious anti-Semites have been reduced to proposing Gandhian non-resistance and peace plans, but the Zionists are valiantly fighting back…

Iraq; Locals Accuse U.S. of Massacre in Ramadi
Kavkaz-Center
U.S. military tank fire killed scores of civilians in Ramadi, capital of Al-Anbar province, late Monday night, according to witnesses and doctors. Anger and frustration were evident at the hospitals and during the funerals in the following days. Iraqi doctors and witnesses at the scene of the attack said U.S. tanks killed 35 civilians when they shelled several homes in the Al-Dhubat area of the city. Ramadi, located 110 km west of Baghdad, has been beset with sporadic but intense violence between occupation forces and insurgents for several months. On Tuesday, hundreds of people carried the 35 coffins of the dead to a graveyard in a funeral procession which closely resembled an angry demonstration…

Bolton Busy Framing Syria for Gemayel Assassination
Kurt Nimmo
“John Bolton, the American ambassador to the United Nations, said recent probes into political killings in Lebanon suggested Syrian involvement. He told the BBC that if Syria was deemed to have been involved, the implications were serious.” It does not matter there is a complete paucity of evidence indicating Syrian involvement. Moreover, it does not matter that Syrian complicity in the murder of Pierre Gemayel makes no sense. Syria figures prominently on the target list. And besides, if not for the meddlesome James Baker, Pierre might still be alive. Baker and crew want Syria involved in talks regarding the future of Iraq—a bleak future, thanks to the United States—an effort the neocons will stop at any cost…

GI Special 4K24: “ What I Have Seen” – November 25, 2006
Thomas F.Barton
I am a Viet Nam vet who spent his 55TH birthday in Ramadi and will be spending my 56TH in Balad in a week. I feel I have a unique slant on this “war”.
When people say “It’s just like Viet Nam”, I have to chuckle.
Apart from the fact that the politicians have involved the military in a conflict that is micro-managed to the point of being un-winable, it is nothing like Viet Nam.
I am looking at it from the point of the everyday soldier and his daily life.
