The Baath Leadership denies abandoning the Armed Resistance*
Al Moharer
An authorized spokesman for the Arab Baath Socialist Party Leadership in Iraq ascertained that the lies published by the Associated Press and many others Internet sites, including the Iraqi News Agency concerning Mujahid Izzat A Duri, Iraq deputy Secretary general asking the Baath and the Resistance Combatants to lay arms, is nothing but a part of the US campaign against the Resistance in order mainly to disrupt the Resistance ranks, deform the Baath image to look for some ex Baathists to speak in the name of the Party. The spokesman added that the Party will not lay arms and it will continue the armed Resistance until the utter Independence and the return of the Iraq sovereignty and the freedom for its people (…) The Iraq Baath Leadership spokesman ascertained also that any contact with the US either in Jordan or elsewhere doesn’t represent the Part and may have been undertaken by elements which have no relations to the Baath and don’t represent it in any case. These are puppets in hands of the Occupation…

Iraqi Resistance Report for events of Wednesday, 8 November 2006
Translated and/or compiled by Muhammad Abu Nasr, member, editorial board, the Free Arab Voice
In a bulletin posted at 8:53pm Makkah time Wednesday night, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that a short while earlier, Iraqi Resistance forces had fired anti-tank rockets at two US tanks in the city of Hit, about 170km west of Baghdad, setting them ablaze. The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the two vehicles were still on fire in the streets at the time of reporting. Standing near the burning vehicles, the correspondent said that seven American troops had been killed in the Resistance attack and five more of them wounded. US forces were surrounding the Hit crossroads where the two burning vehicles were sitting as the sound of violent gun battles could be heard from the al-’Askari neighborhood where Resistance fighters were engaged in combat with US occupation troops…

Divide and Conquer Implied in Proposed Map of the New Middle East
Genevieve Cora Fraser
It was meant to be a joke and it got a big laugh from TV host Tavis Smiley when his guest, political pundit Andy Borowitz quipped, “George Bush plans to withdraw all his troops from Iraq – to Iran. That’s the plan – the exit strategy.” But no one was laughing, least of all Turkish military officers, on September 15th when a map was presented at the NATO’s Defense College in Rome that included a reduced Turkish landmass. The new Middle East map prepared by retired US Col. Ralph Peters and published in the Armed Forces Journal in June featured a “Free Kurdistan” that included additional territory taken from Syria and Iraq. Indeed, Iraq was a fragment of its former self and had been carved up to also include Sunnis Iraq and the Arab Shia State…

The silent are accomplices in the US show Saddam trial
Carsten Kofoed, Free Iraq Blog of Denmark
Even though this whole “trial” against President Saddam Hussein and his seven comrades is taking place as the result of an illegal aggression violating the UN Charter, even though the “court” does not meet the most basic demands in terms of competence, independence and impartiality, even though “the judges” have been substituted at the whim of the US, and even though witnesses of the defence and three defence lawyers have been murdered in the course, this “trial of the millennium” has been continuing, this rape and murder of justice and international law, without any appreciable protests in the West…

Saddam’s Trial in Context: Episode of Victors’ Injustice
Nicola Nasser, Globalresearch.ca
…However it is still too early to say the saga of Saddam Hussein and what his era stands for is over, because he, whether dead or alive, symbolizes the ongoing and unabated fierce and brutal struggle between the occupiers and the occupied and between two visions: One offered by the American occupying power for Iraq and the region and one offered by Pan-Arabism as symbolized by Saddam Hussein and Jamal Abdul Nasser of Egypt before him, despite their mistakes and flaws of their approaches and systems. Twice the US bought official Arab connivance or silence for targeting Iraq in 1991 and 2003 by offering to weigh in on Israel to withdraw from the Arab territories it occupies since 1967 in a land for peace deal but twice Arab governments were tricked to sacrifice Iraq for nothing…

Bush’s Chernobyl Economy; hard times are on the way
Mike Whitney
In the next few months, a financial crisis will arise somewhere in the world which will jolt the American economy and trigger a swift and precipitous decline in the value of the dollar. This is not speculation; it will happen and there is nothing that the Bush administration can do to stop it. All of the traditional supports for the dollar have been removed by a shrinking economy, a massive $800 billion account deficit, dramatic increases in the money supply, and the reckless manipulation of interest rates. Now, the noose is tightening. Our foreign trade partners can see that we are bobbing in an ocean of red ink and are refusing to buy back our debt in the form of US Treasuries. This is a death sentence for the dollar. It means that in a matter of months the once-mighty greenback will crash through the floor and free-fall through open space…

Rumsfeld Dumped, Bush Suggests a Spook
Kurt Nimmo
It is all smoke and mirrors, as usual.
“Robert Gates, the 63-year-old career intelligence officer chosen to replace Donald Rumsfeld at the Pentagon, takes over with the clearest of missions: get American troops out of Iraq as quickly and cleanly as possible,” reports the Times Online. In fact, this is not the “clearest of missions,” as Congress, increasingly under the control of the Democrat side of the Property Party equation, has not explicitly declared it plans to leave Iraq in the near future, fearing the connotation it has “cut and run” once again, this time allowing “al-Qaeda,” as Bush said during his press conference earlier today, to inundate Iraq and use it as a base of operations, never mind the Iraqi resistance is likely to resist “al-Qaeda” jihadists as a foreign contagion, and also never mind “al-Qaeda” is essentially a creation of American, Pakistani, and British intelligence…

Saddam wins mid-terms in USA
Timothy BANCROFT-HINCHEY, Pravda.ru
Bush condemned to failure due to his disastrous policy in Afghanistan and Iraq. The “War without Success” policy pleases nobody, except the clique of elitist corporative crypto-fascists which gravitate around the White House, turning multi-millionaires into multi-billionaires at the expense of the North American people and the hundreds of thousands of civilians slaughtered by the Bush regime. After six years of manipulating fear and his people, not even the death sentence against Saddam Hussein (”An immediate threat to the USA and her allies”) and his Weapons of Mass Destruction (”We know where they are”) could save Bush – since yet another cassette from bin Laden (”We are going to hunt him down and capture him”) would have been more than suspicious…

Two years after U.S. assault on it, Fallujah returns to insurgent hands
Jay Price and Mohammed Al Dulaimy, McClatchy News Service
When insurgents hid a bomb in front of his house a few days ago, intending to use it against U.S. or Iraqi troops, Majeed al-Rawi had only one option: Move out. “If I report it to the Americans, I will be killed by the men who put it there, and if I don’t, my family will be killed either by the explosion or the Americans,” the car dealer said. “This is not a way to live; this is a way to hate life.” Two years after U.S. troops launched a devastating ground assault that purged, at least temporarily, the heart of the Iraqi insurgency, Fallujah once again is a violent place. In recent months, insurgents have filtered back into the city, despite tight controls that limit access to only six checkpoints. Residents must submit to an extraordinary identification system that includes fingerprinting, retina scans and bar-coded identification cards…

Voting in the absence of Choice
Charles Sullivan
Too many Americans harbor the illusion that we live in a democracy simply because we have the right to vote. But let us be clear about something: voting matters only where real choices are allowed. It is universally understood that special interest money runs the American political system and thus defines what the choices will be. So we are left to choose between candidates who are financed by special interest money, which any fool can see, is no choice at all. The system is purposely designed to require enormous expense from its participants. According to the very mainstream USA Today, the non-partisan Center for Responsive Politics predicts that $2.6 billion will be spent on Congressional races this year alone, which thus precludes any third party candidate, as well as ordinary people, from all but token participation. It requires big money to win political office and big money comes from the deep pockets of corporate America…

Rumsfeld replaced after poll loss
BBC News
US Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld is standing down, President George W Bush has announced after bruising losses for Republicans in mid-term elections. Mr Bush said that both he and Mr Rumsfeld had agreed the time was right for new leadership at the Pentagon. Former CIA Director Robert Gates has been nominated to replace Mr Rumsfeld. The Democrats won control of the House of Representatives in the polls, and the Senate balance of power hangs on a tight race in just one state, Virginia. Mr Bush said that his administration’s Iraq policy was “not working well enough, fast enough”, and that Mr Rumsfeld agreed that a “fresh perspective” was needed on the issue…

It’s a massacre
Eli Stephens, Left I on the News
No, not Republicans. Palestinians: Israel was placed on high security alert Wednesday, hours after Israel Defense Forces artillery shells struck a residential area in the northern Gaza town of Beit Hanun early Wednesday, killing at least 18 Palestinians and wounding dozens of others. Eight children and seven women were among the dead, the Palestinain Health Ministry said, adding that 18 of the victims were members of the Athamna family. (…) Will any of those newly elected “antiwar” Democrats speak out against this American-financed war slaughter? Short answer: no. Now that the election’s over, it will actually be a shock if they speak out against the other war, the one in Iraq (and even more of a shock were they to speak out against the war in Afghanistan)…

1,500 Baathists killed in south
Abdulhussein Ghazal
Assassinating former members of Saddam Hussein’s Baath Party is going on unabated particularly in southern Iraq, according to an independent group monitoring human rights in Iraq. “The number of Baathists killed since the start of 2006 has reached 1,556 people and none of the cases has been investigated,” the group, Freedom Monitoring Commission, said in a statement faxed to Azzaman. It said the killings took place in southern Iraq, and particularly in the cities of Nasiriya, Diwaniya, Amara, Basra, Samawa, Kut, Hilla, Karbala, Najafa and Hindiya…

Sunni politics shifting as a result of the Saddam sentencing
Arablinks.blogspot.com
Iraqi vice president Tareq al-Hashimi was in Doha, capital of Qatar yesterday, for talks with the Emir Hamad bin Khalifa, about the Iraqi situation. Hashimi told al-Hayat that one of this big concerns is the intervention of various countries, which he did not name, in the internal affairs of Iraq, describing this intervention as “targeting the Arab and Islamic identity of Iraq”. It is particularly noteworthy that this is an Iraqi vice-president talking publicly with a Gulf-state leader about a threat to the Arab identity of Iraq, clearly referring to Iran, in the immediate aftermath of the Saddam sentencing. (Iran enthusiastically supported the death sentence for Saddam)…

Sunnis threaten to pull out of Iraq govt, take up arms
AFX
The main Sunni Arab bloc in Iraq’s parliament threatened today to pull out of the unity government and take up arms if the Shiite-dominated government continued to ignore its calls for the dismantling of militias. Salim Abdallah, spokesman for the National Concord Front, a bloc of three Sunni parties holding 44 seats in parliament, told Agence France-Presse his group had delivered a message to the government two weeks ago about dissolving the militias. ‘If they do not respond to this request, we may abandon the political process and have no other choice but to take up arms,’ he said…

On the Trial of Saddam Hussein: Court set up by an Illegal Occupying Power
Tun Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad, GlobalResearch.ca
As a member of the International Committee for the Defence of President Saddam Hussein, to oversee the trial of Saddam Hussein I would like to express my horror and disgust over the trial and sentencing of Saddam Hussein to death by hanging; Firstly a court set up by his enemies has no right to try Saddam Hussein. Since the inception of the trial, the International Committee and the Panel of Lawyers in the defence of President Saddam Hussein have repeatedly pointed out that the court set up by an illegal occupying power has no jurisdiction whatsoever to conduct the said proceedings. If Saddam Hussein is to be tried, it should be by an international court of judges drawn from countries uninvolved in the Iraqi invasion and occupation. The members of the International Committee have demanded that in order for justice to be done and seen to be done, the trial court and the judges must be independent and without bias, and be able to discharge their duties without fear or favour…

GI Special 4K7: “This War Is Not Right” – November 7, 2006
Thomas F. Barton
“As a patriotic American proud to serve the nation in uniform, I respectfully urge my political leaders in Congress to support the prompt withdrawal of all American military forces and bases from Iraq. Staying in Iraq will not work and is not worth the price. It is time for US troops to come home.”
This statement – the Appeal for Redress – has been signed by over 600 active-duty soldiers who have had enough of seeing their brothers and sisters sacrificed to the disastrous war in Iraq.
