How to execute Saddam?, A recent tour around Iraq will be enough
Roads to Iraq
Here the list of real crimes committed by Saddam, and he committed them alone with his full responsibility: 1- Saddam, even when he was a deputy, he nationalized Iraqi oil, the unilateral unfair decision. This caused a lot of harm and damage to foreign oil companies. 2- Launching an unfair campaign against illiteracy, even his intelligence, were watching the children, in order to go to school, and even their parents as well, the illiteracy rate dropped to less than 10% in a country that was three-quarters are happy to live without reading and writing, most of the people today known as the “Shiite majority.” 3- Issued a law to make education compulsory up to secondary school, thus deprived hundreds of thousands of Iraqi families to benefit from the decision instead of selling cigarettes in the streets. 4- Granting autonomy to the Kurdish people, said it was “a formality” granting which gives authorities more than England gave to Wales, especially since the Kurds in neighboring countries enjoy much greater rights and subjected to persecution and discrimination. 5- Used the wealth of Iraq for the construction of industrial installations, while it was necessary to focus on importing from abroad (…) Not so for a fair trial of such crimes to take into consideration? Such a criminal, deserves dictator and tyrant deserves executions 20th time. Nevertheless, there is a reason to keep alive: Torturing him in a tour around Iraq, to see with his own eyes the bodies that are ! burning in the Interior Ministry. To see how many university professors are still alive in Iraq. To see how hospitals are functioning. To see displaced children who have returned to selling cigarettes in the streets. To see how houses get few hours of electricity per day, after spending 2 billion dollars on “reconstruction “projects. To see how billions to convert external accounts for scrap deals, To see ethnic massacres that killing dozens daily . To see what remains of the rights of the “noble women”…

Rough Justice; prowling Baghdad with a sidearm and a defective bulletproof-vest
Mike Whitney
On Monday, an editorial is scheduled to appear in the “Army Times” which will call for Donald Rumsfeld’s resignation as Secretary of Defense. The article will run simultaneously in the “Air Force Times”, “Navy Times” and “Marine Corps Times” and will be available to every active member in the United States Military. The editorial “Time for Rumsfeld to go” provides a brief summary of Rumsfeld’s role in engineering the greatest strategic defeat in American history. It says that the “rosy reassurances” made by the administration (like “Mission accomplished” and that the insurgency “was in its last throes”) were in stark contrast to the military’s “misgivings about the war’s planning, execution and prospects for success”. Note: The “Army Times” has traditionally been about as critical of the government as their Soviet equivalent, Pravda. (…) The war has released the genie of mass-destruction and there’s a strong probability that the fighting won’t be contained within Iraq. Oddly enough, this has always been the dark-vision of the neoconservatives who espoused “creative destruction” as the organizing-principle of foreign policy. Now that their dream appears to be materializing, they’re all in full-retreat trying to distance themselves from the president. Cowards. Only Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld are left to take the blame…

When All Else Fails…
Riverbend, Bagdad burning
… Execute the dictator. It’s that simple. When American troops are being killed by the dozen, when the country you are occupying is threatening to break up into smaller countries, when you have militias and death squads roaming the streets and you’ve put a group of Mullahs in power- execute the dictator. Everyone expected this verdict from the very first day of the trial. There was a brief interlude when, with the first judge, it was thought that it might actually be a coherent trial where Iraqis could hear explanations and see what happened. That was soon over with the prosecution’s first false witness. Events that followed were so ridiculous; it’s difficult to believe them even now. The sound would suddenly disappear when the defense or one of the defendants got up to speak. We would hear the witnesses but no one could see them- hidden behind a curtain, their voices were changed. People who were supposed to have been dead in the Dujail incident were found to be very alive. Judge after judge was brought in because the ones in court were seen as too fair. They didn’t instantly condemn the defendants (even if only for the sake of the media). The piece de resistance was the final judge they brought in. His reputation vies only that of Chalabi- a well-known thief and murderer who ran away to Iran to escape not political condemnation, but his father’s wrath after he stole from the restaurant his father ran…

Saddam expected death sentence, morale high
Middle East Online
Saddam Hussein had expected to be sentenced to death but his morale is high and “made of steel”, his defence team said Sunday, adding that they will appeal the verdict. “I was among 12 defence lawyers who met Saddam Hussein for four hours on Saturday afternoon. His morale was very high, it was made of steel,” Tunisian lawyer Ahmad Siddiq said in a phone interview from Baghdad. “He told us he was convinced he would get the death sentence and he said ‘you have done everything you could but the court was manipulated,’”, Siddiq said. “We will appeal the verdict,” Siddiq added. In a separate phone interview from Baghdad, Saddam’s lead Iraqi lawyer Khalil al-Dulaimi dismissed as “invalid” the Iraqi High Tribunal that issued the “unfair” death sentence Sunday against Saddam…

Defiant till the end (Remember, remember, the fifth of November)
Truth About Iraqis
Defiant till the end and not afraid of death. That’s Saddam Hussein as he was handed down the order of execution. But the order of execution was signed and sealed in Tehran more than 10 years ago, wasn’t it? How dare Saddam stand up to the Persian whores who today have turned our Iraq into a morgue. Ah, but it is not the Persians who are whores. It is you – the Iraqis who cheered for the American troops as they entered Iraq to liberate you. They liberated you of your pride, your homes, your sanctity. Where are you now? Three million Iraqis have fled Iraq in the past three years. More than 600,000 have been killed in this war of liberation. It is you – the Iraqis who ran to Iraq via Kuwait to set up business, to steal and rob their brethren of their heritage. You, the Iraqi businessman. You, the Iraqi in the Green Zone. Yes, you hide in shame from your people, but your people know you. You, the Iraqi translator. You, who put your hand with the occupying vermin. Remember, remember, the fifth of November…

Government Closes 2 Sunni TV Stations
BASSEM MROUE, The Associated Press
After Saddam Hussein was sentenced to hang, Iraqi security forces closed two Sunni Muslim television stations Sunday for violating curfew and a law that bans airing material that could undermine the country’s stability, the Interior Ministry said. Brig. Gen. Abdul-Karim Khalaf, the Interior Ministry spokesman, told The Associated Press that the Al-Zawraa and Salahuddin stations were closed with the approval of Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki. He said that the stations violated a curfew imposed in three provinces by speaking to people in the streets and airing comments that were deemed to “incite violence.”…

Hamas on Saddam Husseins Verdict : “Same Perpetrators in Abu Ghraib & the Palestine Territories”
Hayam Noir, PalestineFreeVoice
…President Saddam Hussein was on Sunday found guilty of crimes against humanity and sentenced to death by hanging by a tribunal in Iraq.
The legal Iraqi government was ousted by the US-Israeli alliance – Defence lawyers representing Saddam Hussein were murdered and the chief judge was changed twice in the course of the trial. The judge who prononced the verdict against President Saddam Hussein was the third one – the previous two judges refused to take orders from the US and the Israelis. Saddam Hussein was the arch-foe of the US- Israeli alliance and now became a victim of their dirthy games. If the Iraqi president,Saddam Hussein will face execution, this sentence will be seen only as a judicial assassination and the architects of this crime will be held responsible for the consequences…

Arianna Huffington thinks I’m crazy! (or a terrorist)
Eli Stephens, Left I on the News
Stumbled on this* this morning from Arianna Huffington: “Let’s just stipulate that everyone in America not in a straight jacket or part of a terrorist sleeper cell wants America to “win” — and center the debate on what, exactly, the president and the GOP mean by victory.” No, Arianna, I, and a hell of a lot of other Americans (arguably, a majority) just want the U.S. and its allies to get the hell out of Iraq, now, and don’t look back (except for writing a check for the damages). We don’t want the U.S. to “win,” not by any conceivable definition. We want the Iraqi people to win by getting their country back, and then doing their best to fix the almost incalculable damage caused by the American invasion (not to mention the years of sanctions and bombing which preceded the invasion)…

Hamas slams Saddam’s death penalty
Independent Online
The ruling Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas condemned the death sentence handed down Sunday to Saddam Hussein, recalling the help the deposed Iraqi leader gave to the Palestinian people. “We as the Palestinian people support whoever supports our people and president Saddam Hussein was one of those,” Hamas spokesperson Fawzi Barhum told AFP. Highly popular in the Palestinian territories, Saddam gave money to the families of people killed by Israeli forces and relatives of suicide bombers when the intifada, or uprising, broke out in September 2000, until he was toppled by the US-led invasion in 2003…

Saddam verdict ‘judicial assassination’: CPI-M leader
India News
The US and Britain would be held responsible for the ‘judicial assassination’ if former Iraqi ruler Saddam Hussein was executed, Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) general secretary Prakash Karat said here Sunday. ‘We oppose this verdict which is rigged, a farce and an outrageous one,’ Karat told reporters on the sidelines of the party’s state committee meeting. The deposed president was found guilty of crimes against humanity and sentenced to death by hanging by a tribunal in Iraq. ‘The United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government should intervene with the help of international forums and bilateral discussions,’ he added. The CPI-M leads the four Left parties that support Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s government from outside. ‘The legal government of Iraq was overthrown by the US and the judge who pronounced the verdict was the third one – the earlier two did not do exactly what the US wanted,’ Karat said…

Why Sunday? It precedes the day of the congress elections in Bush’s country with two days, the last day of the media campaign, so Bush and his gang have the time to formulate speeches and rallying the public opinion, reminding them of the benefits of the invasion of Iraq, all these events we saw in Iraq were just pages and paragraphs from the US elections campaigns. – A siege for 13 years. – The killing of one and a half million people. – Starvation and the impoverishment of a rich nation. – Bombardment with forbidden weapons. – The invasion of a sovereign state. – The destruction of the past, present and future. – Wiping out the Identity, and changing the constitution and laws – Looting their historical artifact and their memory. – Torture and rape of men and women. – Terrorizing children and depriving them of their childhood. – The killing of scientists, doctors and intellectuals. – Sabotage its economy.

Confusion over deadly Baghdad clash
The DAWN Group of Newspapers
There were conflicting reports Sunday of a fierce gunbattle south of Baghdad, which the Iraqi interior ministry’s chief spokesman said had left more than 50 Al-Qaeda militants dead. A US military spokeswoman, Lt-Col Josslyn Aberle, initially confirmed the report. Overnight, however, the US military issued a second statement saying: “We received an update regarding the National Police incident. Multinational Brigade Baghdad reported no suspected Al-Qaeda were killed and eight were detained,” it said. There was no explanation of the confusion between the two reports…

Jordanian lawyers blast Saddam verdict
dpa German Press Agency
Prominent Jordanian lawyers on Sunday blasted the verdicts passed on ousted Iraqi President Saddam Hussein and his top aides as having been pre-decided by the US-led occupation forces. They told Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa that they saw “no chance” for the court of appeal to change the rulings, because minimum justice “cannot be guaranteed” for the defendants amidst the present political and security turmoil in Iraq. “We believe that the verdicts have been prepared beforehand, because what we have watched so far is nothing more than a theatrical play,” chairman of the legal committee at the Jordanian lower house of parliament, Ghaleb al-Zoabi, said. “The minimum guarantees of justice has been absent in this trial, including the rights of lawyers to defend their clients,” he added…

Saddam, 2 others sentenced to death
HAMZA HENDAWI, Associated Press Writer
Saddam Hussein was convicted and sentenced Sunday to hang for crimes against humanity in the 1982 killings of 148 people in a single Shiite town, as the ousted leader, trembling and defiant, shouted “God is great!” As he, his half brother and another senior official in his regime were convicted and sentenced to death by the Iraqi High Tribunal, Saddam yelled out, “Long live the people and death to their enemies. Long live the glorious nation, and death to its enemies!” Later, his lawyer said the former dictator had called on Iraqis to reject sectarian violence and refrain from revenge against U.S. forces…

America plans to give Southern Iraq to Iran
Abid Mustafa
Over the past few months talk about the division of Iraq has gained currency amongst America’s political establishment. Most notable is the plan advocated by Senator Joseph Biden of Delaware, the ranking Democrat on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. Biden purports to decentralise Iraq and give the country’s three major sectarian groups, the Kurds, Shiites and Sunnis, their own regions, distributing oil revenue to all. Another US official Peter Galbraith, a former State Department employee who’s advised Iraqi Kurdish leaders on political issues and is the author of “The End of Iraq: How American Incompetence Created a War without End” , said in an interview, “The country has already broken up. And actually, I’m opposed to using U.S. resources to try to put it back together again. Kurdistan in the north is already a de facto independent state. It has its own elected government. It has its own army. It flies its own flag. The Iraqi army is not allowed to go to Kurdistan. The Iraqi flag is banned there. The Shiite south is governed by the Shiite religious parties who enforce an Iranian-style Islamic law with militias. It’s also not governed from Baghdad…

Beit Hanoun, the testimony of a young Palestinian: “They shoot at anything that moves”
Silvia Cattori
“Bein Hanoun, with 30,000 inhabitants, has been the target of daily aggressions and air strikes since June 25. It is now besieged by Israeli troops. We have seen the tanks advance and take up their positions. We are now encircled by about 70 tanks and at least 450 soldiers who announce that the city is a “closed military zone”. That means that no one can leave. No one can flee. It is an offensive based on those carried out in the West Bank in 2002. We have no water, no electricity. We hide in the remote corners of our houses. Ambulances are not authorized to enter into this occupied and closed zone. The soldiers have circled the houses they want to invade. They occupied the houses and they shut up the families in one room. Now they are using then as forts. They use explosives to pierce holes in the walls, they blow off doors, and the people are terrified. They shoot anyone that moves…

In a dispatch posted at 6:12pm Makkah time Saturday evening, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that one night before the scheduled announcement of the “verdict” in the US-run show “trial” of Iraqi President Saddam Husayn, the American-installed puppet “Prime Minister” Nuri al-Maliki had declared a curfew to begin at dawn on Sunday and to last until further notice. The curfew is to constitute a complete ban on all motor traffic and pedestrian movement. All gatherings in residential areas are also banned and major shops and markets closed. The Reciprocity Principle: Questions That Need to be Asked
Kim Petersen, www.dissidentvoice.org
Why not hold the professed Christian administration of so-called United States president George Bush to the Golden Rule of Christianity? Jesus commanded, “Do to others as you would have them do to you.” (Luke 6:31) Bush and his colleagues have indicated their approval of waterboarding. But how would Americans react if the situation were reversed? What would Americans say if captured United States troops were tied to a board, their faces covered in cellophane, and water poured over them until the point of retching? Would Americans then agree that waterboarding is a legitimate means to try and gather information? It would, surely, be considered barbaric. Americans would fulminate against the inhumane torture. The US regime would decry it as a violation of universal conventions against torture. But when the US regime has its willing agents carry out torture, dissent at home is palpably muted…

Fadhil Al-Dulaimi
Zeyad, Healing Iraq
Fadhil Al-Dulaimi was one of my most memorable teachers at the Baghdad College Preparatory School in Baghdad. He was deputy dean and physics teacher for the last three years I spent there before I went to Dentistry School. I will never forget him because I still have a small fading scar on the back of my right hand from the time he hit me and another friend with a bamboo stick for skipping classes. Despite his acting more like a military officer with conscripts, rather than a teacher with students, everyone respected and loved him (…) Fadhil Al-Dulaimi was killed three days ago when a mortar round hit his bedroom while he was sleeping. Adhamiya, a largely Sunni district of Baghdad, has been under random mortar fire coming from northern areas in the Shaab and Sadr City districts for the last few days. 27 people were killed and injured today in another round of mortar attacks on Adhamiya, the Interior Ministry said…

DUBOIS WAS RIGHT
Malcom Lagauche
The great African-American historian/sociologist/activist W.E.B. DuBois was asked about the impending Soviet threat in 1958. He responded, “No country threatens us. We threaten the world.” His assessment was as correct then as it is almost five decades later. When the Berlin Wall fell in 1989, the world hailed the end of the Cold War. The U.S. and the Soviet Union could once again spend their money on such unimportant items as education, health care, infrastructure upgrades, and employment. The term used in the U.S. was “the peace dividend.” While most of the world was celebrating a future of world peace, the U.S., almost stealthily began to write the last chapter of its book on taking over the world. Today, the results are evident to anyone except mainstream America. They are still in a state of denial and want to wreak vengeance upon the rest of the world. To them, the Cold War is still being enacted, but with different players. The decades-old battle of East vs. West has turned 90 degrees to a North vs. South battle. The North represents mainly the U.S., with Europe being a neutral observer, and the South is comprised of Third World nations, most of whom are populated by people of color…
The 1990s were a crucial time in the development of U.S. world hegemony. Little-by-little, the pieces began to fall for the rest of the world as America extended its tentacles to every corner of the Earth.

Who’s Targeting Iran – and Why?
Gordon Prather, Antiwar.com
One of the more interesting revelations elicited by Seymour Hersh from Scott Ritter during their public discussion last month, sponsored by the New York Society for Ethical Culture, about the Bush-Cheney administration’s not-so-secret plans to effect regime change in Iran, was the extent to which Ritter has been – and apparently still is – intimately associated with Israeli intelligence analysts. According to Ritter, the involvement began during his service as a US Marine intelligence officer, assigned to the staff of General Norman Schwartzkopf, during our preparations for – and execution of – Operation Desert Storm…

The Real Iraqis

Two weeks before the US invasion to Iraq in 2003, a US spaceship devastated in the space, what was important for the foreign journalist who were in Baghdad at that time waiting for the outbreak of the war was one of the crew was the Israeli pilot who attacked Iraqi nuclear reactor “Tamouz” in 1981. The foreign journalist wanted to go to site of the reactor to talk with the people who live around especially those who have been there for long years and suffered of that attack to see how do you think about the death of the Israeli pilot, were they happy for his death? (…) I recalled these interviews dated three years ago with their great meanings while we are living this wave of hatred and sectarian war which maintains everybody, these people were Iraqis who could not be happy for the death of an Israeli pilot, why now, I find Iraqis who are happy with the killing of their Iraqi bothers, who justify the death squads? where did we get these people?…
