Dense Inert Metal Explosive Experiment – Used in Israeli “ Summer Rain” on Gaza Palestinians
Hayam Noir, PalestineFreeVoice
According to US Defense this letal weapon is supposed to still be in the testing phase and has not been used on the battlefield. It is believed that the weapon is highly carcinogenic and harmful to the environment. Is it possiblle that the Israelis has used an experimental weapon in the Gaza Strip in recent months.According to those who has testified, the wounded were hit by munitions launch! ed from drones, most of them in the month of July this summer. The weapon is similar to one developed by the U.S. military called DIME, which causes a powerful and lethal blast, but only within a relatively small radius…

Britain condones by silence Israeli human rights abuses
Chris Doyle
The British Foreign & Commonwealth Office’s 2006 annual report into human rights was published today. Conspicuous by its absence, was any mention of Israeli human rights violations in Lebanon during July and August 2006 while criticism was reserved for Hizbollah alone. Commenting on this, Chris Doyle, Director of the Council for the Advancement of Arab-British Understanding (CAABU’), stated: “This Pravda-style report deliberately ignores Israeli ! violations of Lebanese human rights. It does not offer even the slightest hint that Israel’s mass aerial flattening of Lebanon might somehow have breached the human rights of 1191 Lebanese who were killed, and the million who were displaced. Does this mean the Foreign Office justifies the collective punishment of the Lebanese people through the illegal blockade, the targeting of vital civilian infrastructure such as power stations? Does it endorse the widespread use of cluster bombs in built-up civilian areas?”…

British TV Journalist Was ‘Unlawfully Killed’ by US Forces in Iraq
Agence France Presse
A coroner has ruled that British television journalist Terry Lloyd was unlawfully killed by US forces in southern Iraq in 2003 and said he would try to ensure that those responsible were prosecuted. Following his verdict on Friday, Oxfordshire Assistant Deputy Coroner Andrew Walker said he would write to the director of Public Prosecutions “to see whether any steps can be taken to bring the perpetrators responsible for this to! justice.” Lloyd was killed, together with Lebanese interpreter Hussein Osman and French cameraman Fred Nerac, near the Shatt al-Basra Bridge outside Basra, Iraq’s second city, on March 22, 2003, the coroner said…

A journey through the mind of contemporary conservatism: Clutching our values aboard the death train of empire
Phil Rockstroh, Online Journal Contributing Writer
Day-to-day life within an empire consists of the deceitful leading the disengaged. Although when the artifice shielding a nation’s populace from the ruthlessness of their leaders begins to fall away, hysteria and displaced rage rises in the land. Ergo, in the American empire, we’re witnessing these demented days of congressional boy love and despotic roc! kets. Day after day, the pace at which insane tidings arrive quickens: it’s as if we’ve become passengers on a high-speed train, commandeered by lunatics, that only stops at insane asylums in order to board more lunatics . . . Naturally, it follows that the train has gone runaway, careening down the buckling tracks, blue sparks spraying from its steel wheels, while any approaching curve becomes a threat to derail the whole hurdling madhouse…

Sadr bids to rein in militia as Iraq violence rages
Dave Clark, AFP
…Friday, Sadr called on those who had killed Iraqis to “repent.” “There are rumors that there are groups or persons from the Mehdi Army attacking the Iraqi people with no right to do so,” Sadr said in a statement bearing his signature distributed by his office in the shrine city of Najaf. “It is not proved so far but, if proved, I will declare their names and will renounce them with no fear or hesitation,” he said (…) “Criminals should not ta! ke righteousness as a shield,” Sadr said, warning that if they continue to fight he will no longer seek to protect them. “I ask them to do this because I love them, not because I need them.”…

REAR-VIEW MIRROR GENOCIDES
A COMMENT ABOUT GENOCIDES
TONY SAYEGH, Palestinian Pundit
…The study in Iraq concluded that a reliable estimate of the increased deaths attributable to the US invasion is 650,000. If we add to this number the conservative estimate of 1,000,000 Iraqis who died due to the severe sanctions imposed on that country at the behest of the US, in the years prior to the invasion (of those, UNICEF estimated that 500,000 were children), we arrive at the conclusion that 1,650,000 Iraqis have been killed due to deliberate and calculated US policy! (…) If the death of a million Armenians is a genocide (and it is), what do you call the death of almost 2 million Iraqis? That number of Iraqis is increasing rapidly and could easily reach 3 millions if this modern day genocide is not stopped…

Iraq loses 25 police to violence each day: US trainer
Mira Oberman , AFP
Violence in Iraq forces the interior ministry to budget a loss of 25 police officers each day to death or permanent injury, a US security advisor said. “We budgeted for 10 Iraqi policemen killed every day and 15 wounded in action to the point where they had to be retired from action” in 2006, Gerald Burke, National Security Advisor to the Iraqi Ministry of Interior said. Burke described the appalling conditions facing police whom he helped t! rain, to a meeting of the Democratic Policy Committee, which includes Democratic legislators…

Documents Reveal Scope of U.S. Database on Antiwar Protests
Eric Lichtblau, New York Times
Internal military documents released Thursday provided new details about the Defense Department’s collection of information on demonstrations nationwide last year by students, Quakers and others opposed to the Iraq war. The documents, obtained by the American Civil Liberties Union under a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit, show, for instance, that military officials labeled as “potential terrorist activity” events like a “! Stop the War Now” rally in Akron, Ohio, in March 2005…

The BBC and Israel’s plan for a military strike on Iran
Jonathan Cook, The Electronic Intifada
The Middle East, and possibly the world, stands on the brink of a terrible conflagration as Israel and the United States prepare to deal with Iran’s alleged ambition to acquire nuclear weapons. Israel, it becomes clearer by the day, wants to use its air force to deliver a knock-out blow against Tehran. It is not known whether it will use conventional weapons or a nuclear warhead in such a strike. At this potentially cat! aclysmic moment in global politics, it is good to see that one of the world’s leading broadcasters, the BBC, decided this week to air a documentary entitled “Will Israel bomb Iran?”. It is the question on everyone’s lips and doubtless, with the imprimatur of the BBC, the programme will sell around the world…

The Missing Moral Center: Murdering the Innocent
Once Upon a Time…
If you have ever wondered how a serial murderer — a murderer who is sane and fully aware of the acts he has committed — can remain steadfastly convinced of his own moral superiority and show not even the slightest glimmer of remorse, you should not wonder any longer. The United States government is such a murderer. It conducts its murders in full view of the entire world. It even boasts of them. Our government, and all our leading commentators! , still maintain that the end justifies the means — and that even the slaughter of hundreds of thousands of innocents is of no moral consequence, provided a sufficient number of people can delude themselves into believing the final result is a “success.”…

The Assassins of Truth
Charles Sullivan
It is evident to me that the United States government believes that any individual or group of people that works to prevent it from implementing its agenda are terrorists. Furthermore, I contend that the government’s plan is not the people’s agenda; but some of us will be required to sacrifice our lives in order to help them execute their will, and all of us will be required to sacrifice our freedoms. I also contend that the government overwhelmingly represents the interes! ts of wealth and power; that its strength is derived from corporate bribes, rather than from grass roots populist support; that it exists to execute a Plutocratic agenda of world domination, while neglecting the needs of the overwhelming majority of the people…

Bush loses control of policy, Iraq, and America’s soul
Len Hart, The Existentialist Cowboy
That Bush now wants to send more troops to Iraq means that he has lost control of policy and lost control of Iraq. Never mind that the war is already lost; at least three Civil Wars already rage; the “insurgents” are not “insurgents” but a guerrilla war against the illegal US occupation of Iraq. But we were told that we would be greeted as liberators. Not so! Former Secretary of State Jim Baker says pulling out now will cr! eate more chaos! There is chaos now! Repeating the failed strategy, staying the course that is no course will but create more chaos at greater cost in both American and Iraqi lives. Iraq, meanwhile, has bankrupted America —yet Bush continues to spend like a drunken sailor…

Bush on the Caliphate, Again
Robert Dreyfuss
Four times yesterday Bush talked about the evil “caliphate” that radicals want to create. Unlike in the past, though, he spoke about it as if it already existed, accusing his imagined enemy of trying to “extend the caliphate” and “spread their caliphate.” I wish some reporter had the guts to ask the president to explain what he means, to explain what he thinks a caliphate is, and how a rag-tag band of Al Qaeda types hiding in Pakistan can conquer the land from Spain to! Indonesia, which is what Bush keeps warning about…

Interview with Leila Khaled
Imperialism’s two failures: Iraq and Lebanon
Workers World
…Just after the war, Nasrallah declared that they are going to compensate the people, so that they can live in dignity. I think it’s a culture, for all human beings to live with dignity. And he stresses that—now we have won the war, although the country was destroyed, but we kept our dignity, we are free people. He speaks to the people, to their minds and their hearts at the same time. There are political parties i! n the area, especially in Lebanon, who said why can’t we live in peace with Israel? Now this war showed that it’s very difficult to coexist with them, and this is very dangerous, because we, as Palestinians, from the very beginning called for a one-state solution, that Arabs, Jews, Muslims, Christians can live all together peacefully on the same land and on a democratic basis. This is our vision to the end of this conflict, but we have seen that still the Israeli society is not ready for that. Iran has a religious ideology, which I feel is dangerous. But when it comes to resisting the imperialist projects in the area, you don’t speak about ideology, you speak about resistance. Resistance is the concept, whether the origin of it is religious or not. That’s why they targeted Hezbollah, because it’s a resisting group…

UK minister urged Aljazeera bombing
Aljazeera.net
David Blunkett, the UK’s former home secretary, has said that during the 2003 invasion of Iraq he suggested to Tony Blair that Britain’s military should bomb Aljazeera’s television transmitter in Baghdad. Aljazeera television said on Thursday that Blunkett’s claims – made in an interview with Britain’s Channel 4 television to be aired on Monday – support its belief that the US and Britain deliberately bombed its Baghdad offices during the war…
