Beyond doubt, given the cowboy mentality in our air services what they are doing is repeatedly approaching the Iranian coast at high speed … just as if they were beginning a series of raids.
Iranian anti-air missile and artillery defenses will then go to full alert … and sooner or later it is entirely likely that a US aircraft will cross into Iranian airspace and be fired on. This could well become the causus belli for the long-prepared assault on Iran. The US ships too will be operating under full wartime alert … all weapons system armed and ready to fire … aircrew and sailors alike in a high state of nervous tension … just primed for a provocation should an Iranian aircraft or ship approach too closely.
Bush and his high command would cheerfully sacrifice this ship if thereby they could procure the desired result … war with Iran, resulting in the conquest of its oil-rich Khuzestan Province, and the destruction of its utility and industrial infrastructure. Not just the small and militarily useless uranium enrichment program. And the crew of the Eisenhower know this: Before sailing from Norfolk, the base for the Atlantic Fleet many officers and sailors complained to the media that they were being used to launch another illegal war. They will be frightened and panicky, just like the Iranian youngsters opposing them. A perfect recipe for disaster. Iran has little choice too but to shadow the US ships with its small force of submarines, and the “prosecution” of such a vessel by US “defenses” is also a likely breeding ground for an incident. This extremely reckless US provocation has to be seen as the warlike and aggressive tactic that it really is. We are in the new moon phase, and this, while not as favorable for the US side as the dark phase still give US forces a tactical advantage over their opponents. Plus the US elections are only a bit more than a week off, giving Bush and Company every motive for military action to rally their supporters here at home. We are still in a period of maximum danger for war. Our misleaders are not really very smart, and can think of little beyond the use of their formidable weaponry. The potential scenario is so much like the Gulf of Tonkin incident which gave to the US an excuse to assault North Vietnam years ago that we should all be very wary of a repeat performance. We have all seen this movie before. Yesterday, in a public interview Nancy Pelosi, leader of the Democrat sham opposition in the Congress replied to a question from her interviewer in the emphatic negative when asked if impeachment of president Bush for the shameful lies and provocation used for the launching of the Iraq disaster. All US factions, whatever their view of Bush’s competence as a leader are aware that war and repeated and permanent war is the only tool remaining to the USA in her quest to remain the dominant power in the world. Our finance and trade are in such disarray that the armed forces are all we have left to induce others to follow our lead. The perversion of the United Nations is exemplified by the way the US has bullied others into following meekly after in both the lead-up to this unhappy situation in Iran and the denial of Venezuela’s attempt to be a voice for moderation and peace in the Security Council. There will never be a better moment for more war … from Washington’s view … than the present time. Let’s see what plays out… Chris Herz Washington D.C. |
