French President to Visit Haiti

Port au Prince, Jan 2 (Prensa Latina) President of France Nicolas Sarkosy plans to travel to Haiti on a yet to be defined date, Secretary of State of La Francophonie Jean Marie Bockel announced on Tuesday, on the second day of his visit to Haiti.

Bockel attended celebrations for the 204th anniversary of the Haitian revolution which put an end to the French colonial rule in this part of The Hispaniola Island.

The invitation to Sarkosy was renewed several weeks ago through French Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Rama Yade, by Haitian President Rene Preval, according to official media reports.

Bockel arrived in Port au Prince on Sunday for a 72-hour visit with the announced intention to sign a framework agreement on fields including education and the strengthening of the rule of law.

The five-year pact includes the provision of about $30 million a year, which will add to other contributions through the European Union and the World Fund, the French official explained.

Probable visite En Haïti, du président Français Nicolas Sarkozy

À moins de changement de dernières minutes le Président Français Nicolas Sarkozy visitera Haïti au cour du premier trimestre de l’année prochaine, a révélé l’écrivain Français Claude Ribbe, au cours d’un interview sur les antennes de la radio en ligne radiokajou.com, relayée par plusieurs autres stations en Haïti et dans la diaspora. Selon Mr Ribbe, suite à la visite de la Ministre française d’origine africaine Rama Yade, et pour répondre à l’invitation qui avait été adressée par le chef d’état Haïtien, René Préval, le Quai D’Orsay aurait déjà commencé les préparatifs de la visite. Aucune date officielle n’a encore été retenue selon Claude Ribbe qui croit que M Sarkozy serait, sauf changement de dernières minutes, le premier président Français à visiter Haïti.

L’écrivain intervenait dans le cadre d’un interview accordé à la radio au sujet du Général Dumas, français d’origine haïtienne dont il milite pour la ré-érection de la statue à Paris qui a été déboulonnée par les nazis lors de l’occupation allemande en 1943. Cette statue a été érigée à Paris en 1906, année qui marqua le centième anniversaire de la mort du Général Dumas, conformément au vœu de son fils Alexandre Dumas, auteur de très célèbres romans français comme les trois mousquetaires.

Me Claude Ribbe, écrivain, historien, philosophe et fondateur de l’association des Amis du Général Dumas suggèrerait que la visite du président Français en Haïti soit placée sous le signe d’un symbole qui manifesterait une certaine reconnaissance de la part du président français de la communauté d’histoire entre les deux pays, de l’implication de son pays dans la situation d’Haïti aujourd’hui et tout au long de son histoire et la volonté de renouer d’autres types de relations avec le peuple haïtien que celles entretenues jusqu’à présent. Ce symbole pourrait être selon lui le don d’une copie – toujours selon le vœu du fils Dumas – de la statue du Général Dumas à placer sur une place à Port-au-Prince, la Capitale d’Haïti, ou à Jérémie d’où le Général était originaire. A défaut de ce symbole, un discours incitant plutôt très clairement à un vrai dialogue entre les deux pays dénué de toute fanfaronnade et de toute supposition semblable à celui tenu au Sénégal semblerait le mieux indiqué pour marquer cette grande première visite d’un président français sur le territoire haïtien depuis que ce peuple a acquis son indépendance après avoir vaincu et déchu l’armée française.

Murder and Preventable Death Have Won.” Nairn said: “Advisers for Hillary Clinton include Madeleine Albright; she was the main force behind the Iraq sanctions that killed more than 400,000 Iraqi civilians. Another is General Wesley Clark; he was the one who ran the bombing of Serbia; he publicly said that he was going after civilian targets, like electrical plants, like the TV station there. Others include Richard Holbrooke; while in the Carter administration, he oversaw the shipment of weapons to the Indonesian military as they were illegally invading East Timor and killing a third of the population there; he kept the UN Security Council from enforcing its resolution against that invasion. Another is Strobe Talbott who, during the Clinton administration, oversaw Russia policy which backed Yeltsin, resulting in turning over the national wealth to the oligarchs and a drop in life expectancy in much of Russia of about 15 years — massive, massive death. And you have various backers of the Iraq invasion and occupation and the recent escalation, people like General Jack Keane, Michael O’Hanlon [at the Brookings Institution] and others.

“Barack Obama’s top adviser is Zbigniew Brzezinski. “Another key Obama adviser is Dennis Ross, who for many years under both Clinton and Bush II oversaw U.S. policy toward Israel/Palestine. He pushed the principle that the rights of the Palestinians, the rights recognized under international law, must be subordinated to Israel’s desires to do whatever it wants in the Occupied Territories. And Ross was one of the people who led the political assault on former President Jimmy Carter when he was so bold as to agree with Bishop Desmond Tutu of South Africa that what Israel was doing in the Occupied Territories was tantamount to apartheid.

“It appears that many of the military lobbyists are working on the Edwards foreign policy team. Those are the portions of the Pentagon that do the military contracts, that do the deals with the big companies like Raytheon and Boeing, etc.

“Rudy Giuliani’s big adviser is Norman Podhoretz. Podhoretz’s new book is “World War IV,” which Giuliani seems to like. Podhoretz says, bomb the Iranians, he says he prays that this will happen. Ex-Senator Robert Kasten, an old major backer of the Pakistani military dictatorships and the Suharto dictatorship in Indonesia, is another key Giuliani adviser.

“John McCain has General Alexander Haig, who oversaw the U.S. policy of mass terror killings of civilians in Guatemala, El Salvador, Nicaragua and Honduras, when American nuns and religious workers were abducted, raped and murdered by the Salvadoran National Guard. …

“Mitt Romney has Cofer Black, a longtime CIA operative who was one of the key people behind the invasion of Afghanistan. … He organized Detachment 88 in Indonesia just recently, the supposed antiterrorist outfit that recently went after a Papuan human rights lawyer.

“It’s not clear who Mike Huckabee’s advisers are.” Nairn wrote the recent piece “Huckabee Fails to Get Tough on Crime.” Further comments from Nairn and Vlahos.
