So Ann is finally RELEASED from prison in Haiti

So Ann (Annette August) who has been in prison for over two years (since May 10, 2004) is in the process of being RELEASED. Apparently the Haitian police are escorting her home as I write this (8:21pm) This is the latest information we’ve received from Haiti. We are on the phone with Haiti righ now. Our Haiti contact was at the Palè Jistis, at a hearing where So Ann, along with others, including Yvon Zap Zap, Paul Raymond, and George Honore have had their cases examined by the judicial authorities.

The hearing has been going on most of the day. According to our Haiti contact, who knows that HLLN was the first to report and write about So Ann’s arrest and has been very anxious to see her release, the Haitian judge in charge has found that there is NO EVIDENCE whatsoever to hold So Ann in prison. (See, HLLN’s report on the arrest of Sò Ann and the May 12, 2004 Urgent Action Alert: Defenseless Haitian Children hooded and manacled (ala Iraqi prisoner/terrorists treatment) by US Marines in the dead of night in Haiti www.margueritelaurent.com/campaigns/campaignone/presswork/so_anne_arrestupdate.html

;www.sfbayview.com/051204/soanne051204.shtml and See Conspiracy of Not, by Ezili Danto, May 13, 2004 www.margueritelaurent.com/pressclips/conspiracy.html)

According to all the inquiries and investigations presented by the prosecuting folks in Haiti, the determination is that there was no legal reason for So Ann to have been put in jail in the first place. For instance, our Haiti contact explains that no one showed up to testify against these defendants. For example, our contact who was in the courtroom reports that Charles Henri Baker was one of the folks who had filed a complaint against So Ann for the Dec. 5, 2003 University incident. Apparently all those who signed complaints against So Ann, including Charles Henri Baker, and all those who filed complaints for the other three in court today, simply did not show up in court to prove their claims when their names where called up and allegations read. Apparently Haitian defense attorney Mario Joseph was well prepared and showed medical records to show where So Ann was on December 5, 2004 and other evidence that exonerated all the wrongfully and illegally held detainees. According to our latest report, the only folks who showed up in court where the supporters of the detainees. Again, none of the folks who signed complaints against So Ann and the others showed up to litigate their claims.

After hearing all of Mario Joseph evidence, the government prosecutor (Commissaire Gouvernment) asked that So Ann and all the prisoners be immediately released to go to their homes and be with their families.

Our Haiti contact’s understanding is that the prisoners will go to their homes directly and not back to prison to be processed out. Apparently the necessary documents have been all signed. Tomorrow apparently is Yvon Zap Zap’s wife’s birthday and many Haitian folks are finally starting to feel today was a good day for Haiti.

Stay tuned for further HLLN details on this developing story. Let your friends know a glimmer of hope came through today for Haitian women and Haiti.

HLLN BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Letter from Jail, Annette (Sò Ann) Auguste
– May 10, 2005

May 10, 2004, May 10, 2005:

Twelve months since I was arrested by the U.S. Marines in Port-au-Prince. They accused me of having contact with Haitian Muslims and planning to attack them. On May 10, 2004, the U.S. Marines assaulted, brutally, my home in the middle of the night with explosives and large arms; terrorizing all within, especially the small children of my family.

I speak to the world as a prisoner of conscience in Haiti, held in detention for my political beliefs and convictions. I can never forget the trauma these men have caused to the youngest and most vulnerable of our household. I think none of us will ever be able to forget the inhuman treatment we were subjected to in the course of this violent action undertaken in the name of the Bush government for what it calls ?BUILDING DEMOCRACY? in my homeland.

From my cell, I am giving hope by the many voices being raised against the injustice the people of Haiti are being forced to suffer today. I am grateful to Congresswoman Maxine Waters and countless others who have stood up in solidarity with the Haitian people in order to stop the bloodletting and help the outside world to know the truth and reality we are faced today.

I send you all my love and gratitude for remaining strong in separating the lies from the truth in Haiti?s current situation. I send you all my blessings as a free Haitian woman fighting for the rights of the impoverished majority in my homeland.

They may imprison my body, but they will never imprison the truth I know in my soul. I will continue to fight for justice and truth in Haiti until I draw my last breath.

Action: Please call the numbers listed below and lodge your complaints. Circulate this Urgent Action Release and press your Congressional representatives to investigate and your local and national media and newspapers to report the wholesale slaughter in Haiti today of thousands of unarmed Haitians while U.S. soldiers are on the ground and, even participating in these crimes against humanity. This river of blood of mainly anyone accused of “voting for Aristide” or being affiliated with someone who “voted or supported the Constitutionally elected President of Haiti” cannot match the one or two killings per week the New York Times, CNN and other mainstream media were so ready to report and exaggerate when the purpose was to destabilize and destroy the democratically elected Aristide/Neptune government.

Defenseless Haitian Children hooded and manacled (ala Iraqi Prisoner/terrorists treatment) by US military in the dead of night in Haiti by Marguerite Laurent

According to our sources from Haiti today, four small children where arrested along with Annette Auguste (”So Ann” )- Ages 5, 10, 12 and 14 by the U.S. military during the grenade throwing, ceiling-shooting , dog-killing, U.S. military show of imperial force the night of May 10, 2004 in Haiti.

All four children, along with the 7 adults, suddenlly and without showing of any arrest warrants arrested, interrogated, arbitrarily detained and put in U.S. custody had black hoods, ala Iraq Prisoner suspected terrorists, put over their heads and were manacled in plastic handcuffs. Sources from the Haiti Information Report told us today that the Chief Administration Officer has said that Annette Auguste, as a U.S. citizen may be extradited under the Patriot Act to the U.S. and charged as a terrorist. Others report Annette August is not a U.S. but Haitian citizen and thus won’t be extradited. The uncontradited and important news to note is that Ms. Auguste, a renowed folkloric artist in Haiti, is being held in a separate section of the Haitian jail in Port-au-Prince controlled by the United States military. The amazing news here is that no major media has deemed this story important enough to report it. None.

Few to none in the mainstream media are doing their jobs. Thus, the families of countless Haitians being killed right now have no way of validating their pains, no one to tell their stories to, no access to media and even the major human rights organizations.

Meanwhile the U.S.- installed dictator, Gerald Latorture, is making the rounds in foreign capitals. After denouncing Haitian national interests to collect the 22 billion owed Haiti by France, he is now reportedly in France making the jolly bonhomie rounds there also. Perhaps he will land back in Haiti with the new French Minister of Foreign Affairs, a colonial visit that hasn’t happen in 200-years since Haiti took its independence in combat with the French enslavers. Said French Foreign Minister is expected in Haiti on May 15, 2004.

On Monday last, said Gerald Latorture was in the U.S. visiting, among others, Kofi Annan at the U.N. The visit was not announced through official channels , perhaps because of the embarrassment to the U.S. that the Bush Administration has visited upon us with this naked conquest and overturn of a democratically elected government in Haiti. But, even- if they didn’t want anyone to know Gerald Latorture was visiting the U.N. and Kofi Annan, that doesn’t lessen the Security Counsel’s complicity in the current human rights debacle and unreported killings in Haiti today.

Note that UN Security Council Resolution 1529 leaves the key decisions on the type and scope of military action in Haiti entirely in the hands of the force commander (and of course, the unconstitutional Latorture et al) – so it looks as though the Multinational Interim Force commander in Haiti has carte blanche. The UN thus, to our view, is equally complicit, with the recent violent arrest of Annette Auguste and the beheading of democracy and the rule of law in Haiti. Complicit because of Annan’s and the Security Council’s refusal to help shore up democracy when President Aristide requested help, but willingness now to shore up the illegitimate Latorture with clandestine meetings and the intimidation of Jamaica and CARICOM.

CARICOM deserves a nobel peace prize for their principled stand so far and, for not recognizing the new regime imposed on the Haitian people, a regime shored up by U.S. guns that on, May 10, 2004, put black plastic bags and manacles on 4 children, ages 5, 10,, 12 and 14 who were asleep at their grandmothers house. A U.N. sanction force that refused to help the people of Haiti when they called out for help to repulse cop killers but who silently allow these same imperialist proxies to now oppress the people at will.

Security Resolution 1259 makes Kofi Annan just as complicit as Colin Powell in the brutal repression of the Haitian people we see reported by the National Lawyer’s Guild reports, EPICA April 104 Delegation, Let Haiti live reports, and Haiti Reborn, to name a few.

The UN has to be held accountable as do all the IGOS and governments (U.S., France, Canada, Chile) involved in Haiti and with sanctioning and abetting this replacement of an elected-President with this rule by force and dictatorship.

This un- publicized Latorture visit with the U.N. further evidences Kofi Annan and the UN Security Council’s complicity with the clandestine human rights violations happening in Haiti right now under their occupation and sanctions, including the treatment of Haitian children who where put in U.S. custody in Haiti in the dead of night, May 10, 2004.

For further details about So Anne’s arrest and the manacling and hooding, as if they were dangerous and lethal terrorists, by the greatest superpower in existence, of 5-year old Haitian children during a dead-of-night home invasion in Haiti, be sure to check the Haiti Information Project Report and pictures to be posted at Blackcommentator.com tomorrow, May 13, 2004.

A Conspiracy or Not?
by Ezili Danto
May 13, 2004

When will the sun come up for Black?

Sometime ago, I wrote on the Corbett List that the major media’s were only interested in State Department propaganda about President Aristide and the lives and rights of opposition demonstrators because they were not reporting the deaths of Lavalas supporters. In fact, in January, AP and Reuters where reporting pro-opposition deaths at demonstrations (remember Apaid’s rush to hospitals to claim bodies for U.S. news and camera consumption?) that where really pro-Lavalas deaths.

I also wrote about the financing by the Republicans of phony civil society fronts in Haiti solely to destabilize the elected government. I wrote about IRI, NED, European Union, USAID and US Embassy creating, managing and funding the opposition as well as pushing at the cracks and existing social divisions in Haiti for their own purposes. I wrote how the major news media, World Bank, IMF, IRI, NED, European Union, all were pushing policies and agendas to topple Haitian self-rule and development.

Someone from the Corbett List said I was exaggerating, spreading conspiracy theories to be exact.

My question today is how is it possible that, to date, not ONE major news media, including the wire services, have reported that on May 10, 2004, four children ages 5, 7, 12 14 where hooded and manacled, in the dead of night, by U.S. soldiers during the arrest of Annette Auguste (”So Ann)? That So Ann, this 69 year old, well-known Lavalas supporter was arrested, violently and as if the U.S. was at war with Haiti. How come not one major news agency covered this arrest, as they did, let’s say the Jodel Chamblain charade. Why did Chamblain, a convicted criminal, get to be walked into prison, but So Ann, who has never been convicted of anything, never shot any Haitian in broad daylight, gets the “show of force” treatment from the U.S. military? No legal warrants, no walk to jail for Lavalas supporters suspected of crimes? Why?

How is it possible to date, not one major news media has reported on this brutal midnight raid and arrest? This hooding and manacling of Black children?

How is that possible in this world?

What does journalism mean these days? Are all the major news outlets so “embedded” with the U.S. military and Bush State Department that only their press release are fed to U.S. citizens as “news?”

Thousands of Lavalas supporters are dead since the February 29, 2004 Coup D’etat. No major news reporting it. Yet, when the small opposition – who couldn’t win an election even today in Haiti, unless the masses where brought to the poles at gunpoint – when the big-business-in-Haiti people were demonstrating against the Aristide/Neptune government, that was always NEWS.

For the record, I write this because I can see already how the Powers-That-Be will someday foist it as the “Other’s” atrocity. This hood thing, I mean, is beyond perverse. Where did the CIA or whoever in the U.S. military get this now all too visible habit?

For “the other,” that is, for me and mines, I want on record today that Haitians DID NOT start this hooded perversity of torture. I say this because as a student of history, I know how white people love their spotless self-image, and to project all negative and dark things on Black people and Peoples of Color.

For instance, just as it was Whites in the U.S. who started scalping Native Americans, (for cashing in bounties on their heads) and then they passed it off as something the Native Americans do because of “their innate barbarity!”

The way I see it, the examples are too numerous to go into further. But knowing how white “barbarity” is generally projected upon us Blacks peoples of the world I want to say now and very particularly, let history quickly record before it can be passed off as, either a Black or Iraqi practice, that it is White “Regime Change” Americans, using White and perhaps even Black U.S. soldiers like the one’s who brutalized So Ann’s house in Haiti and the ones caught-on-tape torturing Iraqi prisoners, it is their system/structure/military authorities, that/who initiated this hooding of prisoners for torture and interrogation purposes. I don’t want to read tomorrow, when the major news medias wakes up, for whatever their embedded purposes might then be, that HAITIANS STARTED this “hooding and manacling” horror. The “Haitians-started-the-aids-illness” is enough bull to shovel, thank you very much. We’ve got enough on our hands. Own your perversity yourself.

This, unspeakable, murderous way to treat defenseless people, (including babychildren in Haiti) ALREADY in their custody did not start with Blacks in authority in Haiti. Get that straight. None of this hood thing was anywhere in Haiti before Feb. 29, 2004. It wasn’t until the U.S. military and their imperialist U.S. armed proxies let loose from the Dominican Republic, got to Haiti that these thousands of people with black plastic bags, bullet ridden bodies and hands tied behind their backs started showing up at the Port-au-Prince morgue. We don’t own those sort of resources neither, thank you very much. It’s been imported. Yeah, like USAID rice. Then, we have the May 10th embarrassment, evidencing U.S. military soldiers using their own equipment themselves, not through Chamblain, Tatoune or Philippe and the likes, but themselves.

No Haitian indigenous militia has ever been so perverse. Let that be recorded in history.

Some of course are thinking but “the Republican party is integrated”, no? Why don’t you also address yourself to oily Condi Rice, ever-gentlemanly Colin Powell, and our Kofi Annan, Latortue, Apaid? They’ve sanctioned “Regime Change” in Haiti. They all are now looking away from the genocide against the mass voters too. “For the better of Haiti” – that is. Why don’t you ask why Powell hasn’t come out and condemn this treatment by the U.S. military, this stuff is certainly not in the mission statement we feed to the U.S. public?

Because, as I’ve written ad nauseum, Category Zero, such as Powell, Rice, Latortue, ?paid are all disposable. They live and breathe for their connection with ‘white culture, white power, white approval, white job, white society – that’s their jobs. Their integration into the structures that oppresses me and mines is done to ussuage any anxieties about that structures. Their buffers like free Blacks and Affranchis were in the days of slavery. Just because there were a few establishment Blacks doing slavery time don’t mean chattel slavery was less a holocaust visited upon humanity by the Western European tribes.

Category Zero serve them, not the masses. Colin Powell, Annan, Apaid, house butlers who ease the masters anxieties about their own racism and inhumanity. Powell, Rice, Annan, Apaid, Latortue, are define by their “white job”, “white life” – they are loved like pets are. They are there to convince the swing vote it’s ok to be against social evolution and progressive development. See, these Blacks (to be Black to them means progressive in this context) work against their Black communities interests. So, it’s ok for us to do so too.

Category Zeros are dangerous because they will sell you out in a quick New York minute and tell you it was a balancing between principle and interests. And principles have no real weight to them.

Gotta stop. For, to even think of their colonized illness is to come up sick yourself. The Black neocons/mercenaries responsible for this genocide in Haiti are also so, so pitiful. Their delusion, pretensiousness is only surpassed by white domination’s propagated self-construct. Powell, Rice, Annan, Apaid and the rest of the Black economic elites of this world accepted to live on their knees a long time ago. They know they are the disposable pets of the Powers-that-be. Latortue, in France right now, is running around, just as Powell on Capital Hill, serving at their whim. Let them once disagree with their bosses and you’ll see how quickly they last.

I am more and more convinced, the longer I live that the white power structure is INSANE. When you isolate them and meet these power-and- job-based people, they seem normal. They act as human beings to each other. But they don’t relate as human beings to you and people who look like you! How is that possible? I have much conversation with them, they don’t see what you see. Really, they don’t. It’s invisible to them. It’s got to be a neurological problem.

What explains it? Perhaps it was living for generations upon generations with a population they enslaved and saw everyday but never saw our humanity as like theirs? Thus, the realities, the horrors (of 3,000 Haitians being killed in two months since the February 29, 2004 Coup D’etat, for instance) that is so visible to us is invisible to them? If they don’t look at it, it’s not happening, is that it? For those suffering, and we Haitians know suffering, believe that! it is still so hurtful to see that they don’t see you as a human being. Putting bags over our babies heads? Call me vulnerable, but no matter how many years you live with it, it still is incomprehensibly stark to exists in this world with them like this.

Manifest Destiny means white privilege and rule comes with this perfect delusion, which they reconfirm daily on TV and, with reporting only the news that fits their image of what they are. They’ve got this collective soul, this transmigrated energy that see itself as the pure, white light – the CIVILIZING force moving through the world. Yet, they can manacle Black babies in Haiti and hood them while the children are in their sleeping clothes and see not the inhumanity in that. In themselves; their orders to do this; the silent genocide they’ve brought to Haiti in the two months of their command there.

Tomorrow, I’ll read another major newsprint about how “stable’ Haiti is now, post Aristide/Neptune. How just awful it is “these people” weren’t ready for democracy and “we” have to help and help them, guide them, civilize them!

The horror of it all is just too difficult for sane human beings to absorb!

Thing is, they will someday soon get out of Iraq because of what the experience is doing to them, their spotless self-image. That perfect delusion. Never for what its done to the Iraqi people.

Witness, they need demons now to assure themselves of their purity. An election is coming up in November, 2004. What next Cuba? That tyrant who creates doctors to serve the under-served instead of torturers in this world? Have money, weapons, will pillage, hood and manacle. Rock on. Let’s wipe out that Castro demon! It’s the American thing to do.

Haiti Democracy Project is scheduled to be in New York on August 19, 2006 – Already the community is gearing up to point out that HDP are liars and frauds and most definitely do not represent the New York Haitian community by Marguerite Laurent, HLLN, August 14, 2006

Today, three different Haitians sent HLLN the Haiti Democracy Project’s flyer (for the August 19th NY event) and asked us to immediately do something about this Haiti Death Project (HDP) casting its bloody coup d’etat shadow in our beloved New York area.

The flyer featured an autograph picture of Samuel Dalembert at its center with the words “star center of the Philadelphia Seventy-Sixers.” Above the Samuel Dalembert picture are these words “Mobilizing for Haiti. You gotta be here! With Samuel Dalembert…Haiti has held successful national elections, Now is the time for: “Mobilizing the Diaspora for Haiti’s Development.”…Date: Saturday, August 19. Time: 5:00-800 p.m.; Place: Evangelical Crusade Church, 557 East 31st St., Brooklyn, N.Y. 11210; Admission: $40.00; Tickets: 347-351-0286. Or, at Radio Transparence, 3813 Church Ave.; Radio Tropicale, 703 Flatbush Avenue. Or on-line: httpL//haitipolicy.org. SPONSORS: Brothers & Sisters Int’l; Haiti Democracy Project; Haitian League; Ligue des Jeunes Cadres Haitiens, Radio Leve Kanpe, Union des Jeunes Progressives and Yele Haiti

Since HLLN oftentimes collaborates with Radio Leve Kanpe, and the senders of the flyers wanted to know why Radio Leve Kanpe was endorsing the organization that brought Haiti the 2004 Coup D’etat responsible for the death of 20,000 Haitians and lost of Haiti’s sovereignty to a defacto UN protectorate. Knowing how HDP, a Washington lobbying group (filled with former US Ambassadors to Haiti) lie to get the appearance of substantial “Haitian-backing”, I immediately made a telephone call Masner Beauplan, the owner of Radio Leve Kanpe to find out if, in fact, Radio Leve Kanpe was endorsing HDP’s event and, if yes, how this most popular Haitian radio station in NY, known for exposing the coup d’etat folks lies and telling the truth, could account for sponsoring a Haiti Death Project event to our New York community listeners.

I just talked to Masner Beauplan of Radio Leve Kanpe on the phone about the HDP alleged endorsement. I explained to him where I saw the offending Radio Leve Kanpe sponsorship of HDP’s event. When I indicated that the HDP flyer for the August 19th event listed Radio Leve Kanpe as a SPONSOR, the radio station’s owner said he knows NOTHING about it and will go on the radio immediately to denounce HDP and their use of Radio Leve Kanpe’s name on their flyer. He emphasized that Radio Leve Kanpe’s management has not even seen the flyer and ask that it be forwarded if possible.

He laughed and said that HDP had no credibility, no weight in the Haitian community and they were falsely trying to ride on his station’s popularity to give the appearance that HDP has some important backing in the New York area and that this was outright fraud and he would not tolerate it and strongly condenmed HDP’s attempt at using Radio Leve Kanpe’s name to push their repugnant agenda. Masner Beauplan laughed and also specified to HLLN that the only thing he knows is that 3-months ago HDP paid for advertising on his radio for some event they were doing in Washington with Wyclef and Dalambert. He said that was business. Radio Leve Kanpe didn’t endorse the event. He’s runing a business they paid for an ADVERTISING spot. nothing more. He specified further that HDP paid the Radio Leve Kanpe station $1,000 to run the spot. He knows nothing about the August 19th even. They didn’t even buy advertising for it from him, so how could they even conceive of Radio Leve Kanpe as ENDORSING their August 19th event.

Radio Leve Kanpe wants HLLN to circulate this denial WIDELY. Radio Leve Kanpe does not support HDP

So, if Leve Kanpe Radia station did not know they were listed as endorsing the August 19th HDP event, and we know Wyclef didn’t go to the unsucessful HDP event in Washington, It may also be true that neither Wyclef’s people nor Lambert’s people actually KNOW that HDP is using them as a public relations ploy (HDP has Samuel Lambert’s picture on the flyer announcing the August 19th event) to show they have Haitian and “Haitian celebrity” backing and sell their coup d’etat mobilization event scheduled for August 19, in Brooklyn.
