Dear Marguerite Laurent, Esq.
and Haitian Lawyers Leadership Network:

I endorse your calls to action
to set the political prisoners free,
end the UN occupation and repression,
return stolen Haitian assets,
and hold accountable those
who have committed grave injustices against
the people of Haiti,
and their democratically elected leaders,
including the honorable Jean-Bertrand Aristide.

Haitian Field Reporter, reporting on July 5, 2006 direct from Haiti:
No matter what, Gerard Latortue must be made to give some answer, in a court of law, because his regime committed too many crimes in Haiti. It is incomprehensible the amount of blood they have spilled, so many times, in Haiti. And, on the dates of 4th, 5th and 6th of July, Haitian blood flowed heavily and many people were wounded by bullets in many different parts of the metropolitan area.

Photo:AUMOHD. Press conference with over 200 Site Soley victims, May 2006
In the area of Martissant, near the national theater. In the area of the cathedral, in Port au Prince. In the area of the airport. People were wounded and went to seek attention at the emergency room of the general hospital.

Here are excerpts of interviews done last year with people who were wounded.

Site Soley Witness # 1 (wounded on July 4, 2005 from UN bullets, went to MINUSTHA to report being shot, was referred to emergency room of the general hospital on and then placed in chains by UN soldiers.)

James Charles, witness #1:
my parents were here

yesterday they were here. They will be back

Haitian Field Reporter: Well, you seem to be about 15-years-old and you are in chains

what happened?

Witness: I was sent here by the whites [MINUSTHA]. The whites sent me here. They had said that I should come see them, for people had contacted them after I got shot. The whites call here [the hospital] and said that I should go there. I came. I have been here since Monday at 1pm. Meaning that I spent Monday, Tuesday

Tuesday morning my mother came down to sell [apparently as a small ambulatory merchant] and she said that she would come and visit me. On Tuesday afternoon

Haitian Field Reporter: How old are you?

Witness: I am fifteen.

Haitian Field Reporter: What is your name?

Witness: My name is James Charles.

Haitian Field Reporter: Where do you live?

Witness: I live at rue St Martin, behind Maitre Pierre.

Haitian Field Reporter: I see that you have been chained, what happened?

Witness: The directors sent me here

the whites sent me here. I spent a day-and-a-half here and then they came and put the chain to my feet.

Max Jean-Marie, witness #2 (Wounded on Friday, July 8, 2005 by UN bullets, chained to hospital bed when went in for medical care.)

Haitian Field Reporter: You have received a bullet as well?

Witness: Yes. While coming from the airport area. From my sister’s home, going to buy a pair of sandals. When I reached the main crossroad, I got hit by a bullet.

Haitian Field Reporter: Which day did you get wounded?

Witness: I was wounded on Friday.

Haitian Field Reporter: How many times were you hit?

Witness: Once.

Haitian Field Reporter: Once? Well, I see that you are in chains, who chained you?

Witness: The whites
(inaudible) brought me here and the commissioner upstairs is the one who put me in chains.

Haitian Field Reporter: What is your name?

Witness: My name is Max Jean-Marie.

Haitian Field Reporter: Where do you live?

Witness: I live in the area of the airport.

Haitian Field Reporter: The police chained you?

Witness: Yes.

Haitian Field Reporter: Why?

Witness: I don?t know why they chained me.

Haitian Field Reporter: Where there a lot of bullets?

Witness: Yes there were a lot of bullets and people were running towards me, so I started to run as well and that is when I got hit.

Haitian Field Reporter: How is your life going?

Witness: I?m not living well at all. I am a kid. My parents send me to school. I am doing bad because I should never have been put in this situation.

***

Dario, Witness #3

Haitian Field Reporter: Where did the bullet hit you?

Witness: In my leg.

Haitian Field Reporter: Where were you?

Witness: In the area of Martissant 1.

Haitian Field Reporter: What is your name?

Witness: My name is Dario.

Haitian Field Reporter: Where are you from?

Witness: I come from Archaye

Haitian Field Reporter: What were you doing when you got hit?

Witness: I was leaving my house to go to work.

Haitian Field Reporter: Was there a lot of shooting?

Witness: No, there was no shooting. There was nothing. It is because of my overgrown hair. I had tied my hair. When the police came to the area, they saw my hair tied and asked me to get out of the car. They took me to the precinct in Martissant. They searched and found nothing on me.

Since they put me in an unsecured area, I tried to sneak out. The police who saw me shot me in the leg, broke my leg. When they took me here (the hospital) they put the chains on my feet.

Haitian Field Reporter: The police put the chains on?

Witness: Yes.

***
Haitian Field Reporter: There you have it. Those who strike forget, but those who carry the scars always remember. On the dates of July 4th, 5th, 6th, 2005, many people suffered bullet wounds. In the area of Bwa Nèf, the area of Site Solèy, it was a real massacre.

We have learned that there are Haitians who are interested in commemorating these events, especially July 6th, when they are planning a picket line, which proves that there are thinking Haitians for the sake of the Haitians in Haiti, their brothers and sisters. Such action is encouraging.

Tomorrow, we will go to Site Solèy to collect testimonies, in the realm of the many activities planned in Bwa Nèf. They already have a big exhibition of pictures of Drèd Wilme and many other citizens victimized.

Truly, (the Latortue government) is one government that has (killed) many people.

REMEMBERING they were human beings with the right to life, security and liberty. List of the dead.(excepted from – List of Victims, Massacres, Coup D’etat Abuses www.margueritelaurent.com/law/massupdates1.html )

Remembering:

July 6, 2005 UN slaughtered more than 50 Site Soley Haitians.
The UN slaughtered:

* a 1-year old,
* 4-year old,
* a pregnant woman,
* a fetus,
* a handicapped man,
* a 2-year old …

According to the people, the UN dropped bombs from two helicopters on the Site Soley community.

# * Leon Chery, age 46, was shot and killed on his way to work for a flower company. Another man,

* Mones Belizaire, was shot as he got ready to go to work in a local sweatshop and subsequently died from a stomach infection.

* A woman who was a street vendor was shot in the head and killed instantly.

* One man was shot in his ribs while he was trying to brush his teeth.

* Another man was shot in the jaw as he left his house to try and get some money for his wife’s medical costs; he endured a slow death.

* Yet another man named Mira was shot and killed while urinating in his home.

* A mother, Sonia Romelus, and her two young children (Stanley & Nelson Romelus) were killed in their home, reportedly by UN fire after UN forces lobbed a 83-CC gas grenade into their home. The video footage taken by this eyewitness during the operation shows many of these killings while they were occurring. While it does not show images of the UN troops as they were firing into the community, one can view at least 10 unarmed people either in the process of being killed or who were already killed. Many were killed by headshots, such as 31-year-old Leonce Chery moments after a gun shot ripped off his jaw. Chery was clearly unarmed. There are audible machine gun blasts occurring in the background. The video footage also depicts the bodies of Sonia Romelus and her two young children, lying in blood on the floor of their home. Apparently, Sonia was killed by the same bullet that passed through the body of her one-year old infant son Nelson.

She was reportedly holding him as the UN opened fire. Next to their two bodies is that of her four-old son Stanley Romelus who was killed by a shot to the head. The video footage shows a weeping Fredi Romelus, recounting how UN troops lobbed a red smoke grenade into his house and then opened fire killing his wife and two children. “They surrounded our house this morning and I ran thinking my wife and the children were behind me.

They couldn’t get out and the blan [UN] fired into the house.” The video also shows the grenade canister, apparently left in the house.

The eyewitness source claimed that the operation was primarily conducted by UN forces, with the Haitian National Police this time taking a back seat…”

– Adeline Pierre, 28, said she had been pregnant and lost her unborn baby
after being shot on July 6, 2005 by UN Soldiers.

“They’re on the ground and they’re in the air, coming after us,” she said. “I was standing in front of my house and I felt all of a sudden something hit my stomach,” Ms. Pierre said. (NY Times, A Haitian Slum’s Anger Imperils Election Hopes by Walt Bogdanich | Aug. 29, 2005)

Drèd Wilme – “…The people of the neighborhood (where he lived) describe Drèd Wilme as a protector…but for the United Nations and the coup regime which is running things in Haiti, and the National Police, they describe him as a “bandit.” In fact they put wanted posters all over with his name on it and names of other popular leaders, as well as actual criminals, and put them up, basically encouraging people to turn the in. So the difference between the way they describe Drèd Wilme as a bandit, that’s what the United Nations general who was in charge of – this (Brazilian general- Force Commander—Lieutenant General Augusto Heleno Ribero Pereira), who was in charge of this operation said ‘We got him, we got the bandit. We’re very pleased with the operation.’ And about fifty people were killed in that operation. There was a mass grave; the bodies were rotting, the people took the bodies and dragged them to a makeshift mass grave, because there was too much disease and smell. Rue Des Frond Forts, Bel Air-

* Emano Pierre shot in the head on Rue Des Frond Forts, Bel Air by Latortue?s men-in-black.

* (According to Emano Pierre’s brother who explains how he witnessed the shooting, his brother was walking along Rue Des Frond Forts. The men-in-black stopped him, asked him some questions, search him for weapons, they found nothing but shot him in the head anyway and left him in the street. The traumatized brother was video taped minutes later, shaking and incoherent, trying to figure out why they killed his brother. He wanted to know if he could take the body with him. He asked out loud to no one in particular did he have permission to take his brother’s body. Then, the video shows the brother loading up Emano Pierre’s body on a wheel cart and hauling it off down street. At one juncture, the brother stopped pushing the cart and took off his brother’s shirt and pants. Leaving him just with his black boxers underpants on alone. Later, after being sent this footage, we the Ezili Danto Witness project asked why did the brother take off Emano Pierre’s clothes after the police shot him. We were informed because ‘it’s a mystical thing.’)

* Samuel Casseus shot dead. (See, picture of Casseus corpse on Shrine video clip)

* Stanley Phillip (unknown date, Bel Air) executed says witnesses by men-in-black. (See his bullet-riddled body on Shrine clip)

# Also murdered on Rue Des Frond Forts, Bel Air, was:

* Steve Blemur (aka Ti Ligonde, unknown date, Bel Air). According to witnesses from the area Ti Ligonde was murdered by a civilian attaché working for the Haitian police named Nason. (Shrine video clip)

#
July 8, 2005
Massacre at Rue Ti Mas
* 29 people murdered by Haitian police who entered the area with their civilian attaches and proceeded to murder the inhabitants. Video footage shows bodies are strewed all over Rue Ti Mas and in the corridors and alleyways including body of

* Jenel Jelin (18 years old).

* Video shows: In one alleyway lie the bodies of two young brothers.

# Steve Fenelor, 17 years old and TiBout Fenelor, 15 years old. Their bodies riddled by Latortue’s US-bought bullets. The family of the Fenelor brothers are seen on the video describing how Latortue’s men-in-black shot the brothers and even came into their house, pulled out another young family member who was hiding under a bed and shot him in the head dead. Our recorded (interviewed on August 22, 2005) source indicates a total 8 people from this house were murdered that day, July 8, 2005. Testimony of the Fenelor brothers’ grandfather telling how the police shot them without cause is available from the Ezili Danto Witness Project.

#
July 18, 2005
Bel Air

* Ruben Brisso and Nadia (18) and four months pregnant, arrested, later found dead in morgue by their family.

* (According to the mother of Ruben Brisso, Latortue’s men-in-black arrested her son along with his 18-year old girlfriend Nadia who was four months pregnant. They later found the two at the morgue. Their bodies tortured and riddle with bullets. The son was in school and returned to Bel Air simply to take his graduation (baccalaureate) exams, which were scheduled for July______, 2005. The police shot him on July 18, 2005.

* Claire Antoine tells how she had managed, through great hardship to get her son out of Bel Air so he wouldn’t face this sort of end. The son came to Bel Air just days before his school graduating exams. He was arrested while going for an outing with his girlfriend to buy ‘fritay’ and then beaten, tortured and shot by Latortue’s men-in-black (Grieving mother, Claire Antoine’s testimony, and video footage of tortured bodies of Nadia and Ruben are available on video from the Ezili Danto Witness Program.)

Solino Massacre

#
August 8, 2005 Solino – Paramilitary death squads (civilian “attaches”) accompanied by the Haitian National Police, dismembered at least 12 young Haitian women, with police-distributed-machetes, some after being wounded by Haitian police. Many of the Haitian women were known as strong grassroots Lavalas community leaders. Their body parts were put by the killers in black plastic bags and thrown into a Solino ditch where dogs could be seeen breaking into the bags to eat the body parts.

#
August 7, 2005
Solino

* 7 more murdered by Haitian police with civilian attaches hacking and chopping bodies with police-issued machete on August 7, 2005

* Week of August 10 and beginning week of August 15 ?more than 20 summarily executed with machetes in Solino and Bel-Air . Genel Gilo was an eyewitness to the execution of a teenage boy. Peterson Larose said he witnessed his 17 year old pregnant girlfriend being hacked to death by paramilitary or civilians attaches accompanying the police officers.

* Didine Joseph, a 16-year-old girl who was four months pregnant, was macheted to death. ‘It was poignant because the fetus lived for several minutes after she was killed,’ Boukman explained. ‘It could be seen kicking in her belly. It was really sad. Corpses lay in the streets and dogs fed on them. The situation is horrible.’ (Haiti Progres – politicalaffairs.net/article/view/1721)

* A man named “Shaba” ? was brutalized in Solino, then cut and sliced with machetes by civilian attaches who came with Haitian police. Shaba wa then burned alive (See also, AHP article, Aug 18, 2005)

*”Duckens Orius, a cameraman with privately owned Channel 11, filmed the operation. The police attacked him and confiscated his equipment.

“ The State Hospital’s morgue reported receiving forty corpses, killed by bullets, from popular neighborhoods during the second week of August. Those killed by machetes were not counted in that figure.

“Moroccan Colonel Elouafi Boulbars, MINUSTAH’s spokesman, said that all the victims were ‘bandits,’ the same sobriquet U.S. Marines gave to anyone who resisted their 1915-1934 military occupation of Haiti.” (Haiti Progres)

# Sat. August 20 and Sun. 21, 2005
At a USAID/OIM-sponsored soccer game patrolled by UN Troops, at the St. Bernadette soccer stadium in Martissant at the Grande Ravine District – 30 people hacked to death by machete or shot on August 20, 2005 by Haitian supported thugs, called and trained, after the coup, as “police,” by the US/UN/Canada and France. 5 more were hacked to death on Sun, August 21, 2005. The United Nations has a permanent station just across from the soccer field and Lionel Mondestin and other eyewitnesses, some who attended the Soccer Match and lives in the Grande Ravine area reported UN soldiers were present both on Sat. and Sunday.

12 or more others were injured Saturday and Sunday in the populist district of Grand’ Ravine as a soccer match was taking place.

“The mutilated victims were accused of being “bandits”. …Lionel Mondestin, one of the leaders of MUR (Republican Unity Movement) who lives in the Grand Ravine district, indicated that some 20 people were murdered during this attack. According to Lionel Mondestin, members of the National Police accompanied by men armed with machetes looking for presumed bandits encircled the neighborhood before the killings started. He also indicated that MINUSTAH officers were present at the scene. Several homes were also set on fire during the grave incidents at Grand Ravine…Several area residents have abandoned their homes for fear of being murdered. Many sectors recently spoke out in condemnation of the distribution of machetes in the populist districts carried out with the intention of finding ways to provoke area residents to kill one another.” (Excerpted from AHP report, Aug. 22, 2005)

Wasnay Alcidas, 21 – Found in the morgue by uncle Luckner Innocent of Grand Ravine. Wasnay Alcidas was shot to death by police six times in the stomach and hacked with a machete by police-led machete weilding mob with UN
troops just outside the soccer field.

“The police were working in concert with the same guys doing kidnapping, terrorizing people, raping women. Those are the ones [with the machetes],”Luckner Innocent said. (Newsday.com, Reed, Aug. 28, 2005)

(Update: AUMOHD reported 50 people were hacked or shot to death, our investigation continues. See the Ezili Danto Witness Project report on the Soccer Massacre)

Wilme (Audio: www.lakounewyork.com/int%27wakdreadwilme.mp3 )

Entèvyou “Lakou New York” ak Dread Wilme 4 Avril 2005

L-NY: Nou genyen nan liy nan ak nou Dread Wilme, militant, aktivis ki nan Site Solèy k ap fè fas la jodi a ak yon kokenn represyon bò kote MINUSTHA ak Lapolis. Dread Wilme, èske ou ka pale ak kominote Ayisyen nan New York atravè emisyon “Lakou New York” ki nan Radio Lakay, di nou kouman sitiyasyon an ye jodi a?

D. Wilme: Bon, sitiyasyon an pou jan l reprezante kounye a anndan peyi d Ayiti, se pa sèlman nan Site Solèy, li reprezante yon gwo klima pou peyi d Ayiti.

Site Solèy, Bèlè, Lasalin kankou Solino, Granravin, elatriye ak tout 9 depatman an. Jan peyi a ye jounen jodi a, jounalis ap tonbe.

Kijan noumenm nou wè koze a? D. Wilme: Jan nou wè koze a, si genyen gwo bwa sa yo ki te konn ap bay Labanyè kòb pou te tire sou manifestasyon k ap fèt jounen jodi a tout sa k ap pase atravè Site Solèy kote lè nou met manifestasyon deyò se Labanyè ki parèt an pèsòn k al tire sou manifestasyon yo. Li mache avèk Andy Apaid ak Charles Henri Baker.

Site Solèy ap viv sou fatra jounen jodi a. An nou pran konsyans pou wè si sèl ti Labanyè te ka mete yon mas Pèp konsa an otaj.

Jounen jodi nou wè n ap sibi gwo represyon anba men Polis Nasyonal la avèk MINUSTHA kote yo di se pou Labanyè, enben noumenm nou fenk kare manifeste. N ap mande retou fizik Prezidan Jean-Bertrand Aristide prese prese. Site Solèy la fè yon sèl. Pa genyen 33 katye ankò paske nou tou l 34 katye yo nou tout fè yon sèl kote n ap manifeste pasifikman n ap mande retou fizik Prezidan Jean-Bertrand Aristide an Ayiti. Nou panse genyen 1 an nou la ak yon gouvènman defakto k ap debalize yon peyi. Kounye a 95% Pèp la revoke nan bwat leta.

D. Wilme: Jodi a anndan Site Solèy MINUSTHA t ap bay gaz. Jan yo di gen chimè a pa gen chimè vre. Se Pèp la k ap revandike dwa li k ap mande retou Prezidan Aristide an Ayiti. Anndan Site Solèy kounye a la nou gen yon gwo klima perèz kote nou gen anpil mou ki mouri ak timoun ki pran bal. N ap mande pou yo kapab pote nou sekou paske fòk Prezidan Aristide tounen pou kapab gen lapè an Ayiti.

L-NY: Dread Wilme, genyen anpil moun ki pa klè sou relasyon ekzakt ki ta genyen jounen jodi a ant oumenm nan Site Solèy la, Lavalas, ak Grenn Sonnen. Eske ou kapab di nou ki sa relasyon sa a ye jodi a? Eske n ap batay pou menm bagay?

Kesyon Grenn Sonnen an avèk noumenm anndan Site Solèy. Noumenm n ap fè yon lit Pèp kote n ap mande retou fizik Prezidan Jean-Bertrand Aristide. Grenn Sonnen t ap travay nan Gouvènman Lavalas.

N ap mande retou fizik Prezidan Jean-Bertrand Aristide. Nou pa konn pa yo a si se retou Prezidan an men noumenm pa nou an, Pèp Ayisyen, Pèp Site Solèy, Pèp Bèlè, Granravin, elatriye, tout dizyèm depatman an, tout 9 depatman an noumenm se pou retou fizik Prezidan Aristide n ap travay.

L-NY: Eske ou genyen yon dènye mo pou kominote Ayisyèn nan k ap koute ou la nan New York epi k ap koute nan entènèt tout kote?

D. Wilme: Dènye mo m gen pou kominote Ayisyèn nan k ap koute m tout kote nan New York, nan dizyèm depatman an n ap di yo mobilize. Ni Ayisyen ki natiralize pou Ameriken, tout sa ki sitizenn, ni sa ki fèt laba a, ni sa ki gen 13 an, 14 an, 15 an laba a, n ap mande yo pou yo rete mobilize, pou yo fè manifestasyon pasifikman nan dizyèm nan. Pou yo pale ak Prezidan Bush, pou yo mande l nou se pitit Ameriken etan ke Amerik, n ap mande retou fizik Prezidan Jean-Bertrand Aristide an Ayiti. Noumenm an Ayiti tou nou voye yon gwo respè pou yo dizyèm nan ki kenbe mouvman an solid solid pou retou fizik Prezidan Jean-Bertrand Aristide an Ayiti prese prese.

L-NY: Mèsi anpil konpatriyòt.

D. Wilme: Mèsi anpil konpatriyòt mwen.

L-NY: We have on the line with us Dread Wilme, a Lavalas militant and activist in Site Solèy where today there is a massive repression against the population being carried out by United Nations MINUSTHA forces along with the Haitian National Police. Dread Wilme, can you tell the New York area Haitian community through “Lakou New York” at Radio Lakay how is the situation today in Site Solèy?

D. Wilme: Well, the situation is very serious not just in Site Solèy but all over Haiti, in Site Solèy, in Bèlè, in Lasalin, as well as Solino, Granravin and elsewhere in all the 9 departments of the country. The way things are in the country today, journalists are being killed, school children are being killed, business people are being killed. Many people who would have been useful to the country are being killed. As Lavalas militants throughout all the parts of the country, all 9 departments and even in the 10th department we are standing up to defend our rights, to demand that President Aristide return to the country and for us to live in peace because without President Aristide there can be no peace. The government that is here right now is doing only one thing: killing people all over the country. The Haitian National Police has forgotten that it was the people who called for the army to be done with so we could have this Police. The people and the Police are brothers and sisters. The Police should not listen to the bourgeoisie and take Andy Apaid and Charles Henri Baker’s money to kill people in Site Solèy. Many people have already been killed, children, school kids and even people praying inside churches have been shot. This is the climate we are living under today in Site Solèy.

L-NY: Compatriot, we have learned that since Thursday, after the news came out that Labanyè was killed many many people are in tears because they no longer have Labanyè to keep the people of Site Solèy in check for them. Many people are saying that this is the real reason why MINUSTHA is killing the people of Site Solèy, to avenge Labanyè’s death. What is your view on this?

D. Wilme: The way we see it, it is these big shots who used to pay Labanyè to shoot demonstrators in Site Solèy where whenever we held demonstrations Labanyè himself came out to shoot at the demonstrators. He was doing the work of Andy Apaid and Charles Henri Baker.

You see, these big shots if they really had a vision, a plan to help Site Solèy this is not the way they would behave. Today, Site Solèy is living in filth.

Today the people of Site Solèy are living in dirt. The people cannot eat. They are hungry. Children cannot go to school. These people who were saying that they had the support of Labanyè, they should know that Labanyè did not represent the masses of the people. Labanyè was nothing inside of Site Solèy. All alone, Labanyè could not have taken all of Site Solèy hostage because by himself he was weak. We have to be honest and admit that by himself Labanyè could not have held the masses of Site Solèy hostage. They have to admit that Labanyè did not represent Site Solèy. Labanyè was just in one of the neighborhoods of Site Solèy which is the largest ghetto in Haiti. They have to face this fact.

Today we are facing severe repression by the National Police and the MINUSTHA where they are saying that this is because of Labanyè but our demonstrations have only just begun. We are demanding the physical return of President Aristide immediately. Today, Site Solèy is whole. There is no longer 33 neighborhoods on one side and 1 on another. All 34 neighborhoods are united and we are demonstrating peacefully to demand the physical return of President Aristide to Haiti. If the bourgeoisie wanted to do something for the people of Site Solèy, this is not the way they woud go about doing it because they have never done anything to benefit the people of Site Solèy. They want the people to be their slaves. They want the people to go and vote but to continue living in the same conditions we are living in today. We have been living for 1 year now under this defacto government which is destroying the country. 95% of the people from the masses who were working government jobs have been fired. Children cannot go to school. Students cannot advance in their studies. We are wondering just how far this crisis will be allowed to go. All of this is why we are in the streets, demonstrating and demanding the physical return of President Jean-Bertrand Aristide to Haiti immediately. This is the only issue the people are interested in today. Aristide is the one who can save Haiti from all its woes.

L-NY: Dread Wilme, tell us what’s been happening this past weekend in Site Solèy. We understand that there were major attacks which have taken place and we heard that you were on the phone with a radio station in Port-au-Prince where you said that the MINUSTHA was shooting tear gas at the people. Tell us what’s happening inside Site Solèy today.

D. Wilme: MINUSTHA has been shooting tear gas on the people. There are children who have died from the gas and some people inside churches have been shot. The Red Cross was with us. The Red Cross was just here and might have just gone on to pick up more children and adults who have gotten shot. The Red Cross is the only one helping us. The MINUSTHA soldiers remain hidden in their tanks and just aim their guns and shoot the people. They shoot people selling in the streets. They shoot people just walking in the streets. They shoot people sitting and selling in the marketplace. MINUSTHA must understand that the people in the streets are the masses of the people. They say that these people are “chimè” but they are not “chimè”.

They are the masses of the people fighting for their rights and demanding the return of President Jean-Bertrand Aristide to Haiti. Inside Site Solèy today we are facing a very serious climate of terror where many people have been killed and many children have been shot. We are asking for support because President Aristide must come back for peace to reign in Haiti.

L-NY: We know that there is a huge protest planned for April 7th. This will be the first large protest since Labanyè has been gone, will there be a large turnout from Site Solèy to join with Bèlè and Kafou? What we are hearing is that this demonstration will be more like a tsunami rather than a lavalas.

D. Wilme: Well there is no doubt about that because when the Lavalas is flowing there is nothing that can hold us back. They know what Lavalas is all about.

Lavalas remains very powerful. All 34 neighborhoods of Site Solèy will be mobilizing. It will be a huge demonstration because everyone is planning to march on the city. Site Solèy will move to join with Bèlè, Granravin, Solino, Lasalin, etc., all the popular neighborhoods so that all together the people will take the streets on the 7th of April to demand with one voice the immediate return of President Aristide to Haiti.

L-NY: Dread Wilme, many people are not clear about the exact relationship which exists between you, the militants of Lavalas in Site Solèy, Lavalas in general and Grenn Sonnen. Can you tell us the nature of this relationship? Are both of you fighting for the same thing?

D. Wilme: This is a very important question. The relationship between us and Grenn Sonnen is a question we will answer today. For our part, we are engaged in a people’s struggle where we are fighting for the return of President Aristide in Haiti. Grenn Sonnen used to work for the Lavalas Government. Right now he claims to be fighting as a former FADH soldier to defend the rights of the former soldiers. That is the difference between us. We do not have any form of contact with Grenn Sonnen. The former soldiers who are involved with him in his fight believed that the defacto government would be doing good things for the country. Later, they realized that this is a criminal government which is killing people left and right.

This government lied to them and is killing their brother soldiers. Those former soldiers have now taken up arms against this government and they are asking for it to be removed from power. As Lavalas militants, we are also demanding the departure of the defacto government. We demand the physical return of President Jean-Bertrand Aristide. We do not know whether they are also for the President’s return but us, the Haitian people, the people of Site Solèy, Bèlè, Granravin etc., all of the 10th department and all 9 departments of the country we are fighting for the physical return of President Aristide to Haiti. I cannot tell you anything about their ideology whether they are for the return or not but for us our purpose is clear.

L-NY: Do you have any last words for the Haitian community listening to you over the internet and all over the world over the internet?

D. Wilme: My last words to the Haitian community of New York and all over the 10th department is that they must remain mobilized. We are asking all Haitians, those who become U.S. citizens, those who were born overseas, those who have been over there 13, 14, 15 years, we are asking all of them to remain mobilized, to demonstrate peacefully wherever they are in the 10th department to demand the immediate physical return of President Aristide. They must speak to President Bush and as people of the United States demand the return of President Aristide to Haiti. We are sending our respects to all of you in the 10th department who are standing firm in the struggle for the immediate return of President Jean-Bertrand Aristide to Haiti.

L-NY: Thank you very much compatriot.

D. Wilme: Thank you very much compatriot.

HLLN Action Alert: Demand UN soldiers stop killing innocent Haitian civilians and brutalizing the Haitian public. End the UN occupation and repression of Haiti.

Remember the July 6, 2005 deadly pre-dawn UN massacre of over 50 innocent Site Soley civilians, many killed while in their own beds asleep, including a mother in bed with two of her children – 22 year-old Sonia Romelus was murdered by the same UN bullet that passed through the body
of her 1 year-old infant son Nelson she was holding. Next to them was her four year-old son Stanley Romelus who was killed by a single shot to the head.
(see www.margueritelaurent.com/law/massupdates1.html,

*
Last year at 3 am in Haiti, 300 U.N. troops led by a Jordanian contingent surrounded Site Soley to hunt down community leader Dred Wilme which the UN considered a “bandit” though it never provided any proof of his illegal activities. Eyewitnesses reported the UN troops indiscriminately fired into their homes and used helicopters, tanks, machine guns and tear gas in the operation.

The UN has admitted that its troops killed at least five people. However, published estimates indicate that upwards of 50 may have been killed and an indeterminate number wounded when the 300 heavily armed UN troops took part in the brutal assault on the neighborhood known for its resistance to the coup d’etat and support and demand for the return of President Jean-Bertrand Aristide.

According to Doctors Without Border’s on July 6th, starting at approximately 11 AM, the hospital received a total of 26 wounded people from Site Soley who were transported to the facility by the Red Cross. Of these 26, 20 were women and children and 6 were men. Half of the total number were seriously wounded by abdominal gun shot wounds and were routed into major surgery. One pregnant woman lost her baby. Other victims seem to be in recovery, according to the hospital staff. Site Soley victims reported UN military forces had wounded them during the operation and many spoke of their homes being shot through by helicopter fire or raised to the ground by UN tanks. Many of the wounded, especially Haitian men, who were wounded by UN bullets, did not go to the hospital because of the coup d’etat police’s routine practice of either “disappearing” or imprisoning wounded Haitian men from Site Soley and the other heavily populated areas.

This Thursday, July 6, 2006, join Ezili’s Haitian Lawyers Leadership Network (HLLN), Kole Zepol Pou Sove Ti Moun from Site Soley, Selul De Baz Fanmi Lavalas Depatman Lwes, Vwa Zanset from Canada, Fanmi Lavalas of New York and the Tri-State area, Haiti Action Committee, Black World United and many others who will gather together with an international coalition of human rights workers abroad and in collaboration with other grassroots organizations in Haiti, representing the people of Site Soley, Pele, Bel Air, Martissant, Solino, Milot, Cap Haitien and throughout all of Haiti, to demand that the UN account for their crimes against the people of Haiti; to demand justice for those shot dead by the UN, including Dred Wilme, Sonia Romelus, her infant sons Nelson and Stanley and all the victims of the UN troops since their landing in Haiti.

DEMAND A STOP TO THE UN OCCUPATION AND REPRESSION – Haiti needs engineers, agronomists, technicians to build infrastructures, community policing to service the people, tractors not armored tanks, not repressive armies, military operations, war guns or heavy weaponry. Demand Justice for the July 6, 2005 U.N. victims from Site Soley and all the victims of the 2004 coup d’etat. For additional details, go to:

Anpil ladan yo ki te blese, spesyalman gason yo, pat al lopital, paske lapolis koudeta a gen abitid al pran pòv Site Solèy ak lòt katye popilè ki blese lopital pou fè yo disparèt oubyen mennen yo nan prizon.
