Urgent Action Alert – Denounce the slaughter of the people of Cite Soleil, demand that U.N. immediately stops sponsoring summary executions in Haiti Charlemagne Peralte was a Haitian man who took up arms to defend the Haitian peasants then being massacred by the U.S. Marines in Haiti during the U.S. occupation of 1915. He was hunted down, executed and then the U.S. Marines who killed him, nailed his dead body to a door in the public square in the North of Haiti at Cap Haitien. To the people of Cite Soleil, the current hunt for Emmanuel Dread Wilme reminds them of the U.S. crucifixion of Charlemagne Peralte back in 1915. Below is an interview, on April 4, 2005, with Dread Wilme before he was wounded on April 4, 2005 speaking from Haiti on Lakou New York, a radio station in the U.S. In his own words, (in English and Kreyol) Emmanuel “Dread” Wilme explains the situation in Cite Soleil and in Haiti that the people in the poor neighborhoods are facing. It is the position of the Haitian Lawyers Leadership that Emmanuel “Dread” Wilme, similar to any other accused person, should be accorded justice not summarily crucified – executed. If the Haitian Lawyers Leadership Network (”HLLN”) had known, in advance, that MINUSTHA was planning to assassinate, for maybe just the SHOW OF FORCE of it, the ex-military soldiers at Petit Goave, who, according to reports had already agreed to peacefully vacate (within three days), the police station they had taken over, we would have denounced this slaughter and demanded justice for the Petit Goave ex-soldiers (See Aumodhís human rights report at: www.margueritelaurent.com/campaigns/campaignone/ If the HLLN had known, in advance, that foreign troops along with their Haitian collaborators indented to straight up assassinate Grenn Sonen and Remissainthe Ravix, giving them no opportunity for arrest or trial, HLLN would have denounced this street/vigilante slaughter and demanded justice for Sonen and Ravix. Latortue once called both these former military men ìFreedom Fightersî and Ravix was, at one point, even welcomed at Latortueís National Palace. Both were executed when they stopped supporting the Coup d’etat government ; Based on the statements made by the Coup d’etat government and the U.N. forces very similarly to the ones made before the killings of Remissainthe Ravix and Grenn Sonen, it appears, in advance, that the foreign troops along with their Haitian collaborators intend to capture ìgangsters,î in Cite Soleil, especially Emmanuel Dread Wilme at ALL COSTS, even if it my entail the massacre of unarmed civilians. Thereís a reporting dated April 18, 2005 claimimg that right now, this very moment, there is ìa joint MINUSTAH-police operation aimed at restoring order in Cite Soleil and also at finding gang leader Dread Wilmer.î (See, UN force in Haiti kill gangster who shoots dead Filipino peacekeeper at Thus, we know, in advance, what is intended for Dread Wilmer. We denounce all summary executions. Remind U.N. troops of their legal obligation to protect civilians and accord justice to all suspect. Haitian Lawyers Leadership Network ********** |
