Anti-War Party Launched in the US

Dear ,

We are writing to you because you are an opponent of US government policy as currently being pursued by the “War Party.” We are three members of the Boston Chapter of New Democracy who would like to promote the creation of a new Antiwar Party that unites the left and the right in principled opposition to the plans of the Republicrat Warmonger Party for perpetual war.

We have had friendly exchanges with numerous people and organizations who might best be described as antiwar/antistate and we are willing to do whatever we can to try to bring them together. Our new organization could immediately begin to battle the government/media propaganda machine for the allegiance of the American people and for the future of our society. Our goal would be not to capture the highly centralized warmaking power of the federal government but to dismantle that power.

Below is a very preliminary sketch of what might be a platform or program for such a new movement. It is offered simply to give an impression of where we are coming from on this matter but, of course, everything would be open for discussion and debate among the participants.

Antiwar, Antistate Platform

The “war on terror” is a fantasy war, a totalitarian construct that clearly illustrates that “war is the health of the state.” Iraq is not a diversion from the War on Terror. Iraq is the War on Terror.

We propose not just to end the Iraq occupation but to bring home all US troops, close foreign military bases and shutdown the “war on terror.” The US government must not go abroad in search of enemies.

We view the Iraq war as a war crime and a premeditated war of aggression — not just a mistake or an act of crazy leaders. Therefore George Bush and his closest advisors must be investigated and tried for war crimes.

Secrecy and the “national security state” must be abolished. Declassify everything and open the books on the decades long crimes of the empire.

The central US government must be disarmed. Scrap nuclear weapons and all offensive weapons.

The CIA and all “intelligence/spy” agencies must be dismantled.

Technology and warfare must be uncoupled. The US government shall deliver the mail. It will not use tax dollars to promote the development of new means of warfare and killing in alliance with giant corporations. End the military/industrial/scientific complex forever. For example, close DARPA.

All military aid to Israel must be canceled.

September 11 and the events leading up to it must be fully investigated.

The right of the people to keep and bear arms must not be infringed. Self defense is legitimate. Empire and wars of aggression are not.

Here are quotes from relevant articles that have contributed to our thinking on these matters:

“What is lacking today is a permanent, populist, broad-based political force to challenge the worldview of the serial globalizers and the advocates of endless war. The Peace Party can be that force. The global crisis we face today makes the old Left-Right arguments over public ownership and tax rates irrelevant. Let's have those debates later, but first let's get rid of those who threaten us with Armageddon.” — Neil Clark. <>www.antiwar.com/orig/n-clark1.html

“There is no chance within the two-party system to have a good president of
the US: both Bush and Kerry will bomb Iran and suppress freedom. Thus the
office of the president and of the central government should be emptied of
its powers; in order to achieve it the localist left and right should join
forces, confront and reject centralist tendencies.” — Israel Shamir. <>www.axisoflogic.com/cgi-bin/exec/view.pl?archive=72&num=11995

“We should look to our common rejection of the war as the basis for a redemptive movement in America, a movement in which we overcome divisions among people of varying backgrounds and beliefs to focus on the most important division: between the war-makers and the people. Our mass rejection of the war demonstrated conclusively that most Americans at some fundamental level share common values. We should discover in these shared values a new democratic vision, more powerful and more real than the democratic vision on which the nation was founded. In it lies the redemptive vision for a second American revolution.” — Dave Stratman. <>www.newdemocracyworld.org/War/not-progressive.htm

“Yet a Left-Right alliance of viscerally antiwar liberals and nationalist “America First‰ conservatives will naturally evolve over time as the horrible consequences of this war come home to roost: they will find themselves moving ineluctably toward one another, in program if not in spirit.” — Justin Raimondo. <>www.amconmag.com/02_10_03/print/featureprint.html

What to do?

If you are interested in this concept please contact us as soon as possible. Also please circulate this letter widely by all the means at your disposal. We can of course use the internet for getting the idea started but we are ready and willing to meet face to face with people in the Boston area immediately. Such a meeting might then be followed by regional meetings.

Sincerely,
